Tressel gave me a night I’ll never forget. Me my mom and dad in a hotel on the way back from vacation glued to the tv watching Ohio state beat Miami in double OT changed the trajectory against Michigan and have us out first natty since 1968 or something. Thank you for the great memories with my family especially that night in Tempe Arizona And hawk was the best MLB in my lifetime and my favorite

He's a great guy, terrible coach and notre dame will suffer for it. He says all the right things and produces nothing.

Excellent exchange between two absolute legends of the Big Ten! As a Spartan fan for as long as I can remember, I always found it unjust what happened to Tressel-punishment vastly exceeded the ‘crime.’ The methodical and and dignified path coach Dantonio took MSU on from a Northwestern-level, competes-every-three-years-type program up to the top dog and consistent contender in the Big Ten, is a truly laudable approach and feat. The decent back to mediocrity and the volatility in the program under his hastily hired successor really opens one’s eyes to just how great MSU fans had it for nearly a decade (to say nothing of the soul-crushing dominance Dantonio’s teams exerted against Xichigan, who were “down” largely because Dantonio consistently broke their spirits early in the season). Xichigan has found their way to the top but through one of the most duplicitous, desperate and bad-faith cheating schemes in sports in my lifetime, which only HEIGHTENS the gap between them and programs like those ran by Tress and Dantonio.

I know Dantonio was head coach at Michigan State, but he will always be loved as a Buckeye for being the defensive coordinator of one of the nastiest Ohio State defenses in history, in 2002 when they won it all.

History -past ; Analysis - present; Prophet - future History -- from a power based personnel game (man to man) - then the variety of schemes that started early on and exploded with the foward pass - and now this incredible flexibility of the game as the Pro and College game unites in a Pro PS way and all the ways it can be "flexed" into one scheme- one unit. Camp - Rules Stagg/Heisman/Yost/Warner/Rockne - Schemes Neyland and so many more - Culture Russell - early spread; DMeyer > FSchmidt > Gillman - Pro Scheme > Coryell/Walsh/Martz PBrown - Modern Pro Culture Shaughnessy > Faurot > Tiger all the R&S guys > the flexbone guys > Matsakis & RRod + Mumme/Leach > PS Triumverate Urban/Gus/Art This ALL was brought finally to NFL Shanahans/Harbaugh and finally Reid really showed how Pro and PS can combine - of course he's a BYU guy - yes - this is just scheme based - Culture even bigger - but it's so huge how we got from there (power) to here (spread). Analysis - One thing fans can do is study film - everyone now can - and there's a lot on youtube for that. See all the great stuff on the field. Then great channels like this one explaining all the Culture (personnel / operations / strategy). It's all available for coaches and fans alike. Prophet - Going to be very interesting as we are in CHANGE now. Culture and the Pro/PS scheme tweaks and all the effects this will have on players and economics of the whole Game. In a world environment that is also on the precipice of major Change. TEAM more important than ever before for everyone..

"Every other person" - the individual power is in the connection (the spread) - power of self is very weak vs power of connection w/ others and even beyond - So great to hear your thoughts, coach. Then Ryan talks about the Vision that drives and aligns a group of individuals. Great interview.

I love the Team Ideal. So true, Jim, that it gets lost in this society and has for a long time. Not just players. Coaches, administration. So much goes into that Gameday Product on the field that fans watch for ~3-4 hours every weekend. My Power Spread Ideal is PS = SpaceTimeTeam -- st squared if you will. Time is attached to Team beginning with all the hours and organization it takes to grow together and evolve into (hopefully) the vision the HC has for his Team. It all starts with the Space you occupy - but it definitely ends with Team. Not Star or Individual or QB or any of that other stuff.
