@@mikeconklin1567 I’m only being this pedantic because you started it, but no they’re not. Contrabass (not contra base) bugles were phased out in the early ‘00s with the rest of the G Bugle instrumentation. Carolina Crown marches with YBB-202MSWC which are Yamahas current model BBb Marching Tuba. They have similar form factor to the Contras of old, and so are still called contras colloquially, but if you want to be a pedant then you also have to be correct.
It was/is referred to as contra (contrabass bugle) which was in the key of G. Now they are commonly referred to as marching tubas and they are in Bflat. The two are interchangeable.
It’s being said that this is the best Corps Phantom has had since 2008 THE show. I have yet to see them ? Are they that good? They have that Phantom growl back in their sound that’s for damn sure. They’re more in tune than I think I’ve ever heard them as well and it’s still relatively early season.
I really love hearing the instruction between reps, usually people just post the performances, but I find the pedagogy even more fascinating. To do what they do, you have to train yourself to hear those tiny details that need to be fixed
Always loves how Crown’s brass sounds like an organ with all those in tune brass the overtones are insane! This is definitely starting to sound like Crown pre-Covid!
