The Argentin Gaucho ties his lasso to the cinch ring as they have no horned saddle. The calfs are grabbed by the hind leg and pulled out by hand to be treated, this is all done by 1 or 2 gauchos.
An outfit is going to have a hard time keeping good cowboy´s if they have too many rank horses in the remuda. I remember talking with real Old Timers from my grandpa day´s and they told me "we had bronk busters who rode in the rough string, the cowboy´s saw that they got plenty of wet blankets".
That's funny. My Grandpa use to say, "Wet saddle blankets make for good horses." He went work as a wrangler on a ranch near Corona, NM in 1923 when he was fourteen. When he started, his brothers called him fats. Six months later, they called him slim.
