Welcome to my channel. This is a channel for me to document my hikes and review them at a later date. In other words, this channel is now strictly for purposes of my own reminiscing. I plan to bring myself content from Northern California and Southern Oregon. I will be doing mostly solo hiking and backpacking trips. I do share my content with the RU-vid community, but I am not looking for "likes and subs". I don't want to deal with comments, so I will no longer be turning them on for my videos. Thanks for your understanding. Also, I do not support any products. I do not want to be an advertisement in disguise of a RU-vid channel. Again, this channel is strictly for documenting my hiking adventures.
Great video! The south San Juan’s are beautiful. I’ll be heading through there later this year for a backpacking trip and then later in the fall for a back country Elk hunt, so your experiences have been a great recon for me. On you fly casting start with less line and try to keep the rod tip between 10:00 and 2:00 - with a pause to let the weight of the line load up on the rod. You’ll pick it up in no time. Take care!
Beautiful video! I am heading up the Holy Ghost Trail, to Stewart Lake in a couple of weeks, so I enjoyed the preview, even if the time of year is different, with spring foliage and all, this time of year. I have a question: when you get to the junction of Holy Ghost and Windsor, is there a camping area up in that area, somewhere before that trail meets up with Skyline? All Trails does not show if there is or not, but it looks like there should be. I wanted to camp there the first night, then head to Stewart Lake the second day.
You could probably find a spot along the meadow right before the junction. However, it would be a dry camp, so you'd need to pack in water. There is a better camp along the creek about 3 quarters of a mile past the junction on the right before crossing winsor creek.
Great video. I watch a lot of backpacking videos on RU-vid. Excellent footage. Good commentary -- I like the intro & wrap ups. I appreciate you talking about finding the trail & campsites. You do not need the music. Let the wildlife & your footage speak for itself. Keep up the good work!
Great video! Thank you for posting it. I am headed to that area in a couple of months, via the Holy Ghost Creek Trail, to Winsor, to Stewart Lake. When you went back down, which trail did you take? I know some sections of Winsor are either closed or very difficult to navigate.
Loved your video. I like that you gave specific mileage for where you camped.Hope you will return to do the rest! I have attempted 3 times. Made it 200, then to 300, then just to Breck. I am thinking of another thru attempt in ‘24.
Thank you! I'm really glad that you enjoyed my video. Unfortunately, I have moved away from the area and I have no plans at the moment to revisit the trail. BUT, it will always be in the back of my mind.... So, who knows! It may happen.
I like the videos But come up the other way to the Pecos Falls, Mora Flats and the Sky line trail where you can look out over 80 miles East. OH THE MEMORIES
Everything incredible But the Music by the Marmets was kind of dark to showcase the awesome beauty up by Baldy Lake I would pick some more upbeat musical tones myself Other than that just amazing video
I hiked the AT and though there were a few slip ups here and there, such as having taken a wrong turn and getting a ride back to the nearest trailhead in the hundred mile wilderness(i can't even calculate how much I missed, but I certainly hiked a long way off trail), or having skipped a small part in Connecticut because I went into town and then walked back to the nearest trailhead (which to me it would be insane to count against any thru-hiker), I did consciously take a blue-blaze in Virginia. The Mau-Har trail. In hindsight I should not have taken that bypass but at the time I was so bored/tired of climbing mountains that day and since the trail was considered equally challenging, I opted to take it. There was a nice waterfall to camp at and overall it was a positive experience, but ever since I always questioned whether I was really a thru-hiker or not, despite how challenging that bypass actually was, or how I literally hiked over 2000 miles through the wilderness without any issue or any urge to give up. When it was over I wanted it to keep going and I hadn't taken any bypasses since the Mau-Har. I personally would never count blue blazing against a thru-hiker, especially if it is done here and there, however, for purely psychological reasons I would always advise that people never do it. Not because it necessarily makes you a cheat, but because it can mess with your head, especially if you are obsessive compulsive(which fortunately I'm not). I actually intend on going back to that section of the trail but in the grand scheme it is somewhat crazy to see someone who takes a little bypass which is equally challenging, as a cheater. At the time I wasn't seeing the trail as a challenge to push myself to the limits because I knew at the time that I COULD hike that mountain if the bypass wasn't there, but I really just didn't feel like it. I obviously had what it takes to get through, although depleted, all other challenges with no issues, so it isn't like I wasn't capable; however, choosing to take that bypass just fills me with regret. amazing how a simple thing like that can screw with an otherwise monumental and great experience of life.
Thanks for another great preview of the Carson National Forest. We plan on heading up next week. It should be interesting to see what the fire did. I have read that the wildflowers are exploding right now. Cheers
that plant at 10:15 --- did you ever run it through a plant ID app to see what it was?? I'm curious! At 11:07 = Sego lily. Soooo pretty! Thanks for sharing.
I'm from New England and yes Maine is my favorite. I'm happy you had a good time. Acadia is a very special place. Looks like you almost overdosed on lobsta! 😂Things aren't cheap in these parts, for sure. Blessings
This guy is sick, how have I not seen these videos until now? A model backpacker! Well done, thanks for making and sharing this video, added this trip to my wishlist
Enjoyed your video. I wasn’t surprised when you mentioned you were a forester. I spent 35 enjoyable years as a southern forester. Keep adventuring! Thanks for sharing your great photography!
Very beautiful trail's how long was the whole hike to the lake and back where you gise seen the fish spawning?? That was so cool!!! Im asking because i want to get up there and do it. I enjoyed the video by the way great job!!👍
For this information contact the Camino Real R.D. 575-587-2255. I'm telling you this because information changes over time. When I was there a couple of years ago, no permits were required.
Love the scenery along this hike. Passed the the signs this past late November for the Santa Barbara campground when taking the high road to Taos for skiing. Really has me wanting to head back in June for some hiking and camping here. I appreciate these wonderful videos and am curious if you’ve done any hiking or camping in Rio Costillo or Valle Vidal region?
Thanks for your kind comment. As a matter of fact, I used to do some forestry consulting work on the Latir Mountain Ranch and I've hiked from there to the top of Latir Peak in the Latir Wilderness. From the top I could see down into Latir Lakes. They look like a wonderful place to explore. Contact the Rio Costillo Cooperative to find out about fees and permits to get to the lakes because they are privately owned. I'm pretty sure you can hike from the lakes into the Latir Wilderness too. I haven't had the chance to explore the Valle Vidal, unfortunately.
Good video. Wish I was younger to take advantage of this wilderness like you do. Also wish they would let us crippled old farts use bicycles but that's the way she goes. Keep it up.
I was reticent when I saw how long this runs, but your film succeeds where so many fail. Your music choices fit the scenery, your commentary is not random rambling, and the days' summaries close each section perfectly. Perfect for keeping my soul excited for hiking on a cold winter day.
