Still such a beautiful, beautiful lady...on the inside and the outside. Gilda, Violetta, Luisa, Cio-Cio-San, Mimí, Lucia (the list goes on) Anna moves me to tears EVERY time!! 😢💔😢 R.I.P. La Bellissima.
One of the finest, warmest baritone voices to have ever graced the stage, his many duets, collaboratins with likes of jussi bjoerling and richard tucker are to this day unsurpassed
Moffo. Same as Monroe, Hepburn, Plisetskaya, Fontain.... Queen who people and artistic royalty adored! She was above Prima Donna and Diva. Even people who did not go to opera, knew who AM was !! Went too soon. The best Traviata and Lucia. God, she was a Goddess 🙏💖🎭💙🌙🌹💔❤️❤️❤️
Prima Donna means that she could sing every tessiture and she did not. She didn't sing the dramatic repertoire like Lady Macbeth, Don Carlo or even more difficult Medea or Wagner... Callas did, that's why Callas could be mamed Prima Donna. I remain a great Moffo admirator anyway.
Not much of an interview. Mr Texon has obviously done his research, and keep on telling Mr Merrill about his career, without letting him in to the conversation.
Robert Merrill (June 4, 1917 - October 23, 2004) was an American operatic baritone and actor, who was also active in the musical theatre circuit. He received the National Medal of Arts in 1993. What a mensch. May his memory be a blessing.
She would have deserved greater attention from the critics. I find her Nannetta (with Karajan) unsurpassed. But of course there are many more roles in which she excelled. Add to her vocal qualities her classy beauty and you get the whole lot. What a talent che was.
What a shame in his last interview the great baritone only spoke for 2 minutes, while the interviewer spoke for 8. Probably the only singer Mr. Texon admirers more than Robert Merrill is himself.
Both look right past any notion that their will is supreme. Icon! Is that so wrong? Let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. Merrill does not give any indication that he is thankful for his success. As an icon, any man is saying that the esteem of impure men is your focus and reward, not your honor and pleasure in walking as a servant of Christ. Artistry will not remove our sin debt.
Came across this video just before Christmas 2020 (Covid nightmare U.K. and elsewhere) thanks to RU-vid Algorithm. How uplifting to hear his wonderful voice again: what a nice, well-grounded man he was . In the Musical firmament.
Did anything come of trying to release the full footage? I would love to see more of this interview! Thank you so much for giving us this beautiful footage.
