Really nice explanation. Its so sad that so many people are missing out on these free, long instructionals about fundamentals, that everyone should master
I am from a very well known school in SoCal, My school cares so much about money that I accidently went overdue 6 months before realizing my Credit Card was no longer active and they weren't getting paid.
Jiu Jitsu 100% better for 1 on 1 situations for all the reason u mentioned but in a crowded area or against potentially multiple ppl it’s gotta be striking
I like your note that a dick move to a new player is different to an experienced player or someone who does competitions. I have never been in a fight and on my first week I got a fist in the jaw pushed as hard as it could (no idea if this was a shoddy punch choke attempt or not) by a purple belt who (I think) was trying to show me the levels to this game. I couldn't open my mouth properly for a week. Now I have no idea if this is legal or not (his ethos is if it's legal it's fair game) but he could easily have played with me and done basically anything to show me levels that did not require pain. He was a dick
@@daze8951 it could happen and definitely does. I’m curious how much time they dedicated actually on the mat? It seems something that a younger dude could pull off if they have no other obligations but for someone older, there’s injuries and bills so on etc.
@@daze8951 100%, when I was a blue belt one stripe I changed gyms and took off the stripe, couple weeks in I got another stripe and took that off too. Im now 7 years into training and a purple belt. That to me makes sense and feels right.
@@dixietierney5186 In BJJ time IS typically a major factor. It takes a long time to become a BB. Again it’s not impossible to do this in 6 years but it’s unlikely.
Lol what ju-jit-su martial artist is going to even try to pull gaurd in a person who isn't train in any martial arts? Like at your skill level you know your just just gunna kick the guy in the face (granted you have to be pretty confident you'll reach the kick)but a good foot to the side of the head is an almost guaranteed knock out I feel like!,
Simple answer. Both. If the guy has any amount of clothing then he is wearing a gi. Durable or not, a good jiu jitsu athlete can register the durability off of the first grip.
This conversation is a dead horse thats been kicked over and over. Train both, train your stand up train with your fire arms. You arent roger gracie. Calm down
I agree .... As a 19 yr LEO and Bjj athlete here, no gi or gi don't matter the simple fact is majority of LEOs don't train at all it's embarrassing and a disgrace. Until departments make it mandatory nothing is gonna change. Your always gonna have your outliers that train and take it upon there self to improve but the bottom line is Majority could care less about training .
@@WolfMMA2021 I used to be in bjj for like 3 years n I quit for a while n I got into a fight with this wrestler n got my ass handed to me. I went back to bjj n my professor was making comments like alright for you wrestlers out there cause he also had a big problem with them. Look at some of the top tier no gi guys tops guys have a wrestling background
@LuisTorres-rv7bq I never said you shouldn't wrestle, but a mix ig grappling arts will get you the best outcome, I think one fight is a stretch for evidence of one martial art being better than another
@@WolfMMA2021 not saying don’t take my word for it or do. Just letting you know that wrestlings a more competitive sport cause wrestling all about putting you on your back. And that’s the objective of MMA.
52 year old white belt here. The biggest issue I’ve had so far is RECOVERY. At only 4 weeks in to my journey, I’ve found that my mind is willing, but the body not so much! Plus, the most frustrating thing for me is that I started at a very good fitness level. Fairly strong. Very good VO2max. But…The soreness in my hip flexors, shoulders, elbows! 2x/week at the moment is about all I can do. I continue to lift, work on mobility. Hopefully this old body can adjust, because I really do love this crazy BJJ thing!
I’m 4 months in as a 38 year old and I relate to this. It will get better, but you require recovery. Just don’t sweat not making it in, especially if your joints hurt.
We live in a small remote town of less than 10,000 people. So we started a school or club on our own and just learn completely off of instructionals on BJJ fanatics and such. We roll hard, medal well in comps and invite/ attend seminars as much as we can. Our BJJ gym looks like a crackhouse but we do our best with what we have because we love it. We are black sheeps with no Sheppard.
Isn't that frontflip back take how Jack Greener got paralysed? Lots of weight on the neck if the bottom guy is a beginner and doesn't roll properly? Great video otherwise though.
When he started talking about "nonconventionally violent opponents" I thought he was gonna warn they might try to bite your dick off. Great info thank you!
Once knees goes up you high back step over their ankle, not to mention bear trap is fairly straightforward to defend and less dangerous than inside position. This was first and foremost to address avoiding kani basami. 👍
