"Immigrant Song, which opens Led Zeppelin III is obviously a heavy metal song. It is different from the rest of the album which features a more folk, and acoustic feel rather than the heavy metal/hard rock style displayed in Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II. Robert Plant actually wrote Immigrant Song whilst touring Iceland. When the workers who were supposed to prepare Zeppelin's concert went on strike the students in the region banded together to help prepare for the concert instead. It reminded Plant of Vikings, big ships, and John Bonham's stomach. The literal interpretation of Immigrant Song is that it is about the Viking conquest of England. "We come from the land of the ice and snow" is a direct reference to Iceland itself. "Hammer of the Gods" is a reference to the Viking god Thor who carried a hammer. "Valhalla, I am coming" is a reference to the Viking version of heaven which only warriors who had died bravely in battle could gain access to. "On we sweep with threshing oar/ our only goal would be the western shore" is a reference to Viking ships and how the Vikings would row to new lands in order to conquer them. "How soft your fields so green can whisper tales of gore" refers both the type of countryside England has (very green, excellent for farming) and also refers to a mighty battle that took place. By the last two lines of this verse it is obvious that the Vikings won the battle and have no conquered England. The last verse is an interesting one. Vikings are infamous for raping and pillaging. However, the last verse seems to be almost a cry for peace. The Vikings are requesting peace so that the conquered can rebuild their ruins. The Vikings are seeking a relationship based on peace and trust without any hard feelings." “We weren’t being pompous. We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be canceled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. ‘Immigrant Song’ was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.”
Well, to be precise, 'Kama Sutra' is the name of the soundtrack album (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamasutra:_Vollendung_der_Liebe), and this is the 1st piece called 'Indisches Panorama I'
