Such an intelligent, funny and also tortured soul. He was a friend of my maternal uncle so the tradition of nine generations of naming boys after the paternal line was scrapped with me. Instead of being called William (as was my father,Gfather, GGfather, GGGfather etc..) I was named Kenneth William…….I could think of worse.

I met him once when I was a teenager. My dad had set up a bar for his private party when he was appearing at the Theatre Royal, Brighton and I was asked to take him a message. I asked for him at the stage door and when he came he said, "Hello young man. What can I do for yoooou?" I passed the message and he thanked me, then said, " 'Ere you are, don't spend it on faaaags." and gave me a 10 shilling note. That was a lot of money! Fags, of course means cigarettes in British slang. I liked him, no airs or snobbery about him.

He's absolutely right. Here in Australia, you go to your favourite GP. You then walk out after paying $ 90 for 10 minutes with a file full of referrals to a bunch of specialists, starting with image. And each visit more $$$$. And you are still sick.

What does say to you about the NHS, then? I'm talking to a "diabetic specialist" who says that caffeine doesn't spike insulin, when IT DOES! After explaining to her that my blood sugar is high after having a cup of coffee with ONE biscuit, she says it must because of what your blood sugar was before taking it but it was 6.0. They are sitting on answers to all health issues because the NHS is in accompaniment with the pharmaceutical companies who produce products that only mask the problem instead of getting rid of it completely.
My cousin has just had both his legs amputated because of the stupidity of the nhs and the OTT C-word . They don't care. His diabetes went out of control because they couldn't be bothered to see him and the condition of his legs or even do blood work.. and my husband's uncle is going thru the same thing now with the nhs. His legs have been bad for 2 yrs now , weeping and swelling.. same nhs Bullshit . The C word is more important than people with real diseases and critical health problems I won't even go into mine .. 2 yrs and 8 neurologists/neirosurgeons and on my 9th next week.. they're all too scared of lawsuits/C-word and don't care about the serious facial pain I'm in 24-7 Ugh it's beyond ridiculous in this day and age that's for certain

Oh, how very very true. You go to a specialist and he or she knows nothing at all about the body, just the little bit your doctor suspects you might, MIGHT have a problem with.
