Stephen Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 - August 27, 1990) was an American musician, best known as the guitarist and frontman of the blues rock trio Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Although his mainstream career spanned only seven years, he is regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the history of blues music, and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was the younger brother of guitarist Jimmie Vaughan. Born and raised in Dallas, Vaughan began playing guitar at age seven, initially inspired by his elder brother, Jimmie Vaughan. In 1972, he dropped out of high school and moved to Austin, where he began to gain a following after playing gigs on the local club circuit. Vaughan joined forces with Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums as Double Trouble in 1978 and established it as part of the Austin music scene; it soon became one of the most popular acts in Texas. He performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, where David Bowie saw him play.
Only cool band I have to admit I didn't see back in the 80s. My brother had tickets at the Summit in Houston, but I couldn't go. I remember the day.. God Bless you, Stevie.
Thank you so much for this. I was there, 16 years old, watching a show I would never forget. Btw, he played Rude Mood while sitting on a stage monitor before an audience in awe. Absolutely brilliant.
Stevie Ray Vaughan is in my top 10 list of my favorite guitarists. I do remember this. Also, I remember when he tragically passed away. I didn't see Stevie Ray Vaughan live, but I did see Jimmie Vaughan live and met him. May Stevie Ray Vaughan rest in peace. Cheers!
The energy SRV put into his performing was huge. And he played brutally but with precision. Blues should be played this way. He reminds me to another largely missed player: Gary Moore. The year Steve died, both bluesmen were going to perform together 😢
When this aired on the 90s Stevei did Texas Flood guitar behind back n Voodoo Child after Pride n Joy then segued into the 89 show In Step material so a combo of both broadcast🎉❤
Rene' Martinez,5th-member of the band never misses a lick, either👍Worked in Dallas at the time of Stevie's passing. The complete city was mourning -- I literally saw people crying in cars at 4 way intersections with lights...no one was going anywhere. Dallas radio station playing in-sync,every vehicle. It was an absolutely awful day
Mozart and Stevie Ray Vaughan Left their body at 35 It was like Motzart asked God Let him have one more crack at it And YHVH said: You know what I say Humans live once But this rare occasion And Motzart came back As Stevie Ray Vaughan Blasted on the scene Making a powerful contribution But left the same age again 🎉😮😊🎉
I saw Stevie and Jeff Beck back in '89. Still the greatest show I've ever been to. I don't even bother trying to compare other shows to them anymore. For I've truly been in the presence of greatness.
There’s something out-of-sync with these tracks. I can hear it and feel it. I’ve listened to tons of SRV with and without Double Trouble and I’m a long time guitar player musician. Somethings missing. Somethin’ ain’t swangin’ proper like? Some sound guy set of ears maybe can shed some light.
Drums are not miked right, sound too tight/high, too, and no bass drum coming through. Guitar sounds too trebly, too, something about the miking, recording, processing, I guess. My VHS of live Stevie sounds much better.
