Growing up in Maryland in the 1960's and 70's, my family (dad, uncle, grandfather, siblings) were sailors on the Chesapeake Bay, a beautiful body of water with over 5,000 miles of shoreline and many fun places to visit when sailing. My Uncle and grandfather had a 35 foot Hallberg-Rassy sailboat. My dad had a New Horizons 26 foot sailboat. Our summers were spent sailing almost every weekend and then we took longer trips when Dad would take his vacation days. I enjoyed that a lot. In 1992 my dad got bigger boat, a Contest 29.
In September 2011, dad calls and says he is done sailing. Done, done. He has not been able to go out sailing for a couple of seasons and if my brother and I want his Contest 29 sailboat, we can have it...well of course we want it! Thanks Dad!
Wood is rotting. Can see it in top drilled holes. No butyl tape no sealant to protect the holes from rotting in the with the new screws. I bet this didn’t last very long. And the pulling forces are on the screws going into the wood.
@@sailingthanksdad Thanks! New subscriber, I bought a swedish 31f sailing boat with Yanmar YSB12 and trying to learn about how to proper take care of it. Hope you keep sharing how you have maintained yours :) I really appreciate the information you have shared!
I bet it is great to be back in the water! I have a May 31st launch date set at Crowley's for my new to me 1971 Contest 33. Going to Jackson Park harbor.
Thanks - helpful video. I realize this is a few years old. My Alado just arrived and I'm impressed by the quality. It appears well made. A question please before I install it. How do you tension and tie off the halyard?
We use a shackle to secure the sail’s tack to the foil base and then tension the halyard by hand and secure it to the foil base with several half-hitch knots.' Good luck with the installation! Fair winds, Ed
How heavy is your boat and lenth ? I'm building a 22' pocket cruiser and looking for a engine that's economical and dependable and that I can cruise at 6 or 7 knows. Nice video thanks
