Together we must not let these fascinating relics from our history be consigned to the dustbin by a flash in the pan woke generation of government.
Good video mate. i got a G29/40 myself nr 2064 of the line. It has all the markings to. 660 ( Stayer) F.B Radom 1939. exelent rifle. Not the original stock annymore thoe since its now a Huntingrifle.
Didn't know Lothar Walther still made barrels for the 98. I made a tensioned liner out of a 22 cal LW barrel and it was a real shooter. They make good stuff. I am in the US where we don't have a proof house though we probably should so even with all our ATF rules and regs. we can build and shoot our own stuff. Would love to visit Great Britain some day. I think it is a beautiful and unique part of the world and has some of the greatest gunsmiths and gun manufacturing houses still in existing today. As far as your methods don't worry about what folks say. There are many ways you can do it but the result is the same. I think you did just fine... Oh yea I subscribed.
I have many old rifles from Enfield mauser some m1917 and as much as I love them as is I've had to replace the barrel to keep them shooting its harder then it used to be to bring them back to life but the ones I have gotten done will out live me good to see I'm not the only one
Midland Gun Company, Demon Street works, Birmingham. A very underated company in my opinion. Ok they weren't Westley Richards but damn solid well made working shotguns. I've owned a couple of later boxlock non ejectors and one was rebarreled by Gallyon and sons Norfolk. That would not have been cheap to do even in the 1970s when I reckon it was done so why bother with a rubbish product ? That's because they weren't rubbish !
Hi Kirk, I share your enthusiasm for the beauty design and engineering of these old rifles. I've only been collecting for a couple of years since retiring and wish i'd started earlier. Looking for a lever action rifle I recently picked up a Whitney Kennedy in 40-60 and discovered they're rare as hens teeth in the states let alone over here , so I'm extatic with my buy. Apparently only 23000 made before Winchester bought out the factory to close it down. Just waiting to hear from you, re a bolt for a Mauser 71/84. Glad I found your site. ATB Ian.
Is that a modern chrome lined barrel or total original ww2 era barrel? I cant see replacing it with outdated new basically junk when serious accuracy cauldve been had.
Only three makers of note? I have a pair of mint F/L duellers by Joseph Manton but I also have a pair of silver mounted F/L duellers by Durs Egg, ex Keith Neil collection and they are as worthy. And then there was Wogdon ! ! Of my eight pairs of F/L duelling pistols it is the Wogdons that come up most naturally to the "aim." The proverbial extension of the arm.
Very nice video, thank you. I had one of my K98's original barrels replaced my a Lothar Walther barrel in 30.06. Rifle will shoot under an inch all day long at 100 yards.
*Not criticism of technique: Reference to reading the markings. Numerous inspector proof marks... might indicate several trips to the armory for re-inspection. A good question might be ... Why did they go to the group effort of transporting it back to the arsenal for reinspection, several times ?*
This video caused me to retrieve a WW2 S&W Victory Revolver from my safe. It belonged to a RCAF Pilot who after the war had it fully engraved, the trigger and hammer polished with a circular tool to brilliant white, and had his last name inleted with gold into the rear backstrap. It is in .38 S&W Caliber, was also bright blued, and the checkered walnut grips are probably a set of replacements. It is a beautiful private commemorative piece. Thank you for this video.
Incredible story, even more incredible as it is true. Being Swedish I must correct this Valhalla bit. The German died in combat and thus is admitted to Valhalla, the Englishman probably died in his bed so for him it`s Nifelheim. Poor sod...
My main knowledge is centred around service rifles so I don’t know for sure however, I have seen many older cartridges from days gone by and the majority of them are intact primarily made of paper! Go figure
Just a proper cleaning can do marvels to such work horses. Beautiful shotgun. Sometimes I bought guns just because I wanted to properly clean them and later sold again, not for profit, just for fun
What a pleasure to see your incredible collection. Just wonderful workmanship in those times. Thanks very much for such a great video for us all :) Kia Ora Tatou
Kia Ora Mr Sword & Musket, I have been amiss to not see this video. What a wonderful rifle. Gosh its in brilliant shape. Love the Lee Enfield Carbines. Tatou very much for showing us this one. Really enjoyed seeing it :)
