SEACOM launched Africa’s first broadband submarine cable system along the continent’s Eastern and Southern coasts in 2009.
Today SEACOM is the preferred partner for African businesses, network carriers, and service providers.
Through its ownership of Africa’s most extensive ICT data infrastructure - including multiple subsea cables and a resilient, continent-wide IP-MPLS network - SEACOM provides a full suite of flexible, scalable and high-quality communications and cloud solutions that enable the growth of the continent’s economy.
SEACOM is privately owned and operated, allowing the company the agility to rapidly tailor-make and deploy new services, commercial models, and infrastructure in response to customer requirements. Without the red tape or hidden costs often prevalent in this industry.

I can't believe this is true, it's just too ridiculous. Same with harmful rays coming from the sun, same with wireless internet. It's beyond my comprehension. All these things are just magic.

HOW did they plant the cables along the sea floor bed across the ENTIRE ocean? how did they get that deep all the way down past the depths of Mt Everest? If they done that how have they not scowered the entire ocean bed floor .
@CinderellaSequeira
@CinderellaSequeira 3 года назад
They lay the cables across very specific paths and make sure they avoid difficult terrains. So before laying the cable they examine only shortest, safest and most convenient routes from one continent to another. The routes are discovered through previous sea voyages and other expeditions. But I understand your question and the awe that comes with it! No one can truly examine or reach the depths of the ocean, so when it comes to laying cables they will stick to what they know and avoid what they do not know!

Same basic principles, but the ships have evolved over time. Compare the cableship in the video to, say, the 'Monarch' launched in 1945, or the CS 'Edward Wilshaw'.

Yes indeed.. in 1850 first telegraph cable was layed between London and Bombay ( now Mumbai ) and that must have been an adventurous, treachourously hazardous, exciting and visionary exercise

False. The first undersea cable was laid between the UK and France in 1850. In 1858, the first telegraph cable was laid across the Atlantic Ocean. It was both the culmination of years of effort and the first tentative step to a practical, permanent communications link between Britain and the US. In June 1870, the Falmouth, Gibraltar & Malta Telegraph Company of John Pender (which had been established in July 1869, with capital of £660,000 (in 1870s money)) landed the final section of the first Great Britain-India submarine cable in Porthcurno.

This sounds really wonderful - then could you explain why ISP's in South Africa at least once a year report that the Seacom cable is 'down'? If the cables are buried how do they keep getting damaged? Seems Seacom is the most unreliable fiber cable system in the world based on the amount of downtime we experience. Wacs seems far more reliable.

ShoRyuKen78 no they only burry the cable close to shore to keep it from getting damaged. it's also thicker towards the shore and once it gets out to open ocean it's layers that protect it kinda thin out because it does not require the same protection as it does towards the coast.

@@Ollied True but that was in 2014 and the country has now graduated to 50 Mbps which is what the most residents are on. A few are on 100, 250 and 1000. At the time they said no to lines capable of that for most. Political interference. But now this is starting to change and lines are slowly being upgraded over the next several years.
