Hello loves! My name is Kenzie and in September I moved from Utah, USA to England. Follow me on my journey of exploring and navigating this amazing country!
We call Salisbury Strawberry. Saul's Brie is as close as I can get to phonetic representation. The city is similar to Swindon, but a little posher centrally. This is funny, because we lived in Salisbury for 4 years, and the lady who made the video looks very like my girlfriend when I lived there. Did a double-take at 2:56! Love the expression "tree-tunnel". Winchester is very similar to Salisbury, but the two cathedrals look very different.
Eu moro em Salisbury. Um lugar muito bonito, cheio de história e muito tranquilo. Assombrado também, mas melhor assombrado que violento quando vivia no RJ. Tudo com muito boa energia.
Kit-kat is not an American brand. It was created by Rowntree's of York in the 1930s. Now made by Nestle which bought Rowntree in 1988. In the US it is made under license by the H. B. Reese Candy Company.
I could be wrong of course, but almost every video i see of “Foreigners/Americans” try UK xmas foods, no one ever seems to have them with hot custard, or icecream, or even whipped cream. To try a “traditional” UK xmas dessert, you have to have them with hot custard, as that is the traditional way. Not trifle of course, and clearly not EVERYONE has custard with them, but we mostly do. 😛😛
Aside from the Christmas cake and the trifle everything else is best served hot with cream or custard or for the mince pie and Christmas cake you can use brandy sauce or brandy butter as an alternative to cream or custard. Sadly shop bought Christmas cake, pud and mince pies are pretty terrible, you must always make your own in advance and for the cake feed it well. Christmas pudding and mince meat for your mince pice is best made a year in advance so it can mature. Stir up Sunday, the last Sunday before the start of advent (the last Sunday in November) is when you want to make your Christmas cake for this year and your pudding and mince meat for next year. I’d steer clear of shop brought trifle too as its so easy to make and if done well is a real crowd pleaser. The best recipes for mince, Christmas cake, pud and trifle in my opinion are the very old fashioned ones written by Fanny Cradock in her Christmas cook book (along with the best way ever to cook a turkey that keeps it moist and full of flavour) or series which is usually knocking around on RU-vid, not sure I fancy her idea for mincemeat omelettes though 😂
FYI, there is no need to refrigerate eggs when in the UK. All of our poultry are vaccinated against salmonella. There is also no need to buy bottled water over here either, as we are lucky enough to have the safest and purest public supply in Europe. You will find that food does not keep as long because the use of preservatives (and artificial colours and flavours) is very strictly controlled. Going shopping a little more often is a small price to pay for healthier food. Best wishes.............................................................the ancient Englishman.
May I wish you a very belated welcome to England. FYI, I know it looks like you say Salis-bury but it's pronounced S-all-sbury. Yes I know it's weird but no-one ever said English makes sense, did they? I have subscribed to watch your adventures as you encounter even more strange and baffling things in and around our damp little island. Best wishes......................................................the ancient Englishman.
Yes I was going to correct the pronunciation myself...t'was a bit awkward to hear it pronounced incorrectly but it's understandable as she's not native. All and all a good video, though!
OK so Christmas pudding should be served hot with, thick cream, custard or ice-cream and a Christmas pudding is normally aged for a few years before eating and fed with brandy over those years like the Christmas cake.
Sticky Toffee Pudding is normally heated up in the microwave ( pleasantly warm, rather than hot) and then served with ice cream, whipped cream, or custard. I appreciate the basic approach that you applied to all of the tasting, but, I have never, ever, seen anyone try to eat Trifle with a fork. If you ever try it again in the future, please use a dessert spoon. Which will enable you to load it up with the full range of flavours: cream, custard, jelly (jello) fruit if there is any, and sponge cake from the bottom. You have to have a mouthful, to appreciate the combination of tastes. If Trifle is ladled out into separate dessert bowls, serve it with ice cream as well.
