You have given me so much hope! Thank you for posting this video. My little finch flew out of his cage and had a rough landing then fell to the floor. Ive only had him (Gouldian Finch) for a few days. After falling to the floor he can't stand on either leg. The legs do move on their own up and down but he can't stand or grab the perch (his toes don't move). He is eating and drinking. I notice your same yellow finch with red head in your blog sitting on a flatter perch as you said he can balance on the perch now. That is so hopeful to see how well the finch is doing. I also noticed what looks like the same bird in your other video on how to build an aviary birdbath so many years later from this paralyzed legs video, Is the yellow finch with red head in that video the same bird? That finch is flying to the birdbath, landing on the water hose, jumps in the birdbath to take a bath and then flies away (so cute and so happy they all are!!). Is that the same once paralyzed bird? If so what an amazing recovery!
An important thing to remember is that we can massage ourselves in this way, but dogs have no ability to soothe their own sore muscles. Just think how often you massage your own muscles throughout the day, then think about how much your pup appreciates it.

My friends dog does the same thing except he likes the spot under his chin to be scratched if I stop for a matter of seconds he will gently hit my hand with his paw. 😂
My neighbor's dog comes over every morning and insists on the same treatment. However, he closes his eyes to focus on how it feels. It's a trip. Humans aren't capable of that level of enjoyment.
