a·no·mi·ny /əˈnäməniˈ/ noun: a concept not represented by a word
Dan and Ron watch strange movies and report back what they saw. Featuring in-depth analysis of films in any and every genre and interviews with some of the hidden gems in the film community.
New episodes every Monday.
Is there a movie you think we should watch? A filmmaker we should talk to? Drop us a line in the comments!
Mathew Burton (MB) would be more like Marty Byrd (MB) in Ozark. Definitely see the possible inspiration here. Matt would not have been a heartless sociopath just out for money, or whatever type of criminal people you describe here. He shows care for his mother by putting money in her purse, not taking advantage of recording his sister’s conversations, always looking out for Eli, ect. Matt is an intelligent person who has schemes, but also has a good heart. Also, River did have a speaking part. Watch pilot again. “It’s your move” is one of the best shows ever. There is no video, except RU-vid, but there is an “It’s Your Move” novel. I kept thinking it was Adam Corolla talking in this interview. Speaking of Adam, Thank you Eli, for everything.
hi nice to see americans appreciatig clarks masterpieces. so the disco concept is a satire on the 'hamster wheel' of the job centre system, you can see clark explore this much more literally in Made in Britain. btw this system still exists and isnt much better today. Tghe reason the main guy refuses jobs is because he is reacting against meaninglesss modern emplyment, rember he's grown up amongst the decaying warehouses of a thousand year empire (like i did) and now is expected to work some globalist trash dead end job, when he wants his life to have meaning
the dude who learns to lay bricks and escapes is a reference to the 'essex white van man' or one of 'thatchers children' , they were manuak semi skilled labourers like bricklayers who begsn their own small businesses made a decent bit of money and moved from london to essex to escape multiculturalism
There was definitely more than a casual friendship going on between them. The explosive break up is only what happens between loving couples. There are photos of the two of them showering together full frontal, google it.
Oh stop it‼️ Two extremely heterosexual men. Lewis was a notorious womanizer, but that was kept under wraps, as Dean, who was, in reality, a family man, was supposed to be the cool swinger‼️
Lewis controlled the writing - so figure it out. Dean was absolutely straight and very confident in his hetero sexuality - Jerry not so much. They fought constantly, with Dean threatening to leave at least once before he finally left after saying "you're nothing to me but an effing dollar sign" to Lewis. Don't think Dean was hot for Jerry, but Jerry, a known bully and nasty person - regularly made himself infantile and feminized.
very true. Lewis also drugged Martin on at least one occasion. Spiked his drink. And this is straight from Jerry's mouth. He didn't seem to be aware that what he did was actually criminal. He just thought it was funny. I think he told the story on one of the late night shows.
I just got into Kathy McCarty after watching the DJ documentary. I think she has a great voice! She's fighting an uphill battle with the monetization in music though, not that it's not appreciated.
I believe the title is because this was at the time of the fall of Vietnam and he twists the verse to if a small country like Vietnam (Footmen) could beat the US how would we stand up to the Soviets (horses)? He insults other countries inferring that they weren't Christian enough and God left them to be invaded - because God came to the US on the Mayflower. Plus what's the logic of telling people to let the enemy kill them rather than lie and not work in secret to beat them? Encourage them to be martyrs? But what alternate version of the South does this take place in that NO ONE HAS A GUN?????? Two of the preachers in this were done on sex charges - Dr. Gray for molesting Elementary School girls, Dr. Hyles a list too long to mention - but somehow God never warned Pirkle about them? Thought he was God's voice. Or they knew and didn't care. Plus...you mention the sending away for stuff in the mail....look up a short film here on YT called "Pages Of Death" - an extremely over the top anti-porn movie. Supposedly all porn tells you to kill children?
I think Richard O'Brien is a brilliant songwriter. I just saw The Return of Captain Invincible (a favourite movie of Terry Pratchett, of all people). The movie itself is quite fun in a campy Attack of The Killer Tomatoes way but Christopher Lee singing Name Your Poison (written by O'Brien) is a stroke of absolute genius.
5:40 ah, Negativland! A youtube shitpost band long before youtube. Seriously, a lot of their stuff goes along pretty well with videos of Songify, Andre Antunes (where he plays guitar over various videos), etc.
57:50 Thankfully, I did NOT make any movies lately (or ever). However, funnily enough I met a friend of mine in Saint Petersburg just a couple of days ago and we did briefly discuss White Chicks in connection with (I kid you not) Tarkovsky. If you do eventually get around to doing a White Chicks episode I will do my best to explain it then.
[Ron] Hahahahaha nothing that creepy, though. It's about the five ways that people express love: www.verywellmind.com/can-the-five-love-languages-help-your-relationship-4783538
1:50 What the hell, seriously?! Having watched Last Exit to Brooklyn by Uli Edel this episode's title hits very differently. I am kind of afraid to rewatch the episode, hope nobody gets gangraped in the end!
32:55 Funnily enough, a couple of years ago my wife bought a tee from H&M with Gus van Sant's Psycho movie poster on it. To this day I have no idea why would anyone come up with printing this on a t-shirt but it is weirdly fitting.
1:10:27 Haha, thanks Dan! I unfortunately have seen Evil Toons already and, dare I say, it is the movie that, if anything, makes you want to stay behind the Iron Curtain!
[Here is me copypasting the comment I was supposed to leave here initially (but somehow it ended up below the other video) in hopes of pleasing the almighty RU-vid algorithm:] The movie version, it seems, is drastically different to the Poe's story. I used to have Murders on Rue Morgue as a part of a fairly peculiar book series. The concept of these series was that every book was double-sided (so that after you read it to the middle, flip it over and read another story from the beginning; I believe it is a variation of a tête-bêche format, except without the hardcover part in the middle of a book) and each side was devoted to stories about specific animals. And each part was simply titled with a name of the animal in question. For instance, "Bears/Tigers", "Monkeys/Elephants", etc. I think the initial concept was to collect nature-centric stories about each animal kind, basically to teach young readers about wildlife and all that. However, as you may have guessed by this point, the stories themselves were only tangentially connected to the series' theme and some were wildly inappropriate for the target demographic (kids 8-12). So I do remember being quite shocked (at age of 9 or so) having read this Poe's story about a killer orangutan on the loose armed with a razor blade, which has been cutting people's heads off. Sort of a baby's first slasher :)
Dan here from my store account. I have never heard that term for double sided books before, I gotta look into this. I'm not actually sure I read Rue Morgue when I was in school, I think the curriculum was The Raven, The Golden Scarab (think thats the name?) and Fall of the House of Usher. Will go read it and hopefully write a more informed comment here, tho I may need to rewatch the movie too since someone gave me some extremely potent brownies before we watched this one lol.

[Ron] You can always copy and paste his comment over to that Rue Morgue episode! :) Dan probably read the story and even knows this book format. I've got to ping him-. his phone was broken for the past week.
In the early years of their partnership, these two REALLY slept in the same hotel room and in the same bed. I read that when Betty learned that she was expecting another child with Dean, she immediately telephoned her husband to tell him the good news. It was night. But instead of Dean it was Jerry who answered the phone and told Betty that he would tell Dean the next morning when he woke up. ALL of their movies and skits on Colgate Comedy Hour have a homosexual subtext. There are photos of them kissing offstage and there are at least two photos of them appearing together in bed. In addition to the famous photos taken in the shower.
@@anominy I've been studying them for almost three years, when I discovered them by chance during the lockdown. I only knew Jerry because he was very famous in Italy. They break my heart every time. There's a lot a lot a lot to write about those two. Their story is one of humanity's greatest mysteries...
We're back! Between Dan opening the store and me (Ron) traveling a bunch to see family and for work, plus a long bout of covid, we went on an informal hiatus.... But now we've got several episodes lined up from a long weekend that we spent at The Mahoning Drive-In watching a Universal monster movie marathon, along with some other more recent movies.
@@anominy Awesome, I was just (re?)listening the Lost in America episode! Thanks, glad to know you guys are back in action :) upd. btw, the original comment is also me, I just happen to have 2 channels.
As a kid, I had a VHS with another Bill Fishman movie, an adaptation of Car 54, Where Are You? with a stellar 0% rating on RT. Imagine how baffling this movie was considering that I had no idea that there even was an older TV series or who any of these weird actors or cameos were.
