Videogame gameplay compilations and longplays with no talk or commentary. This channel focuses mostly on classic gaming videos, but may feature some modern clips every now and again. A majority of gameplay here has been captured by myself personally from real retro gaming hardware, often running through upscalers such as the XRGB-Mini Framemeister. Low-effort content otherwise, but hopefully you enjoy regardless.

Games like this are closer to the early dawn of gaming and are more fun if done right. Games should be fun and not feel like work or frustration while playing.

Got this for saturn recently and i had a hard time controlling the bike until i mapped the hard lefts and rights with the normal left and rights lol. Had much more fun with it when i did that.. you are good at this game

Yeah, the steering is misleading. On Saturn the hard steering defaults to L and R, which is what I use in that version, but it's not intuitive for new players. Glad to see you ended up enjoying it a bit, people usually just think it's a glorified tech demo but it's a lot of fun when you learn the tracks and get good at it.

Given how ill suited PCs of the era were at running sidescrolling platformers this isn't too bad.

Yeah, agreed. It's rough to look at, particularly for people that weren't around when this released, but it was par for the course on MS-DOS machines and it's still pretty playable.

I think each port of Doom has their own pros and cons. JagDoom plays pretty well but has almost zero music. 3DOom has killer music but plays badly. 32XDoom plays decently but has music made several octaves too low. Saturn Doom looks good but runs like shit because Carmack was a bitch and hated warping walls. SNES Doom has pretty good music and levels but shit controls and no rooves/floors. Every Doom port is unique.

I remember playing this a lot on my sega saturn, it was an impressive game for the system but gosh those pc version was awesome on 60fps, they also do a submarine game name amok i dont know if a PC version still exist...

Yeah, Scorcher on PC is much smoother. I started with the Saturn version, but eventually ended up always playing the PC one because it doubled the resolution and framerate. Sub game - you are thinking of AMOK. It has underwater stages, but there are ground missions as well. It was on both Saturn and PC. PC version is much closer to the Saturn version in that case.

It actually came out before Thunder Force IV. That said, it was created by ex-Technosoft devs, so the similarities are natural.

I always thought "Could it run Doom" was more fascinating than "Could it run Crysis". To see what they had to do to squeeze this game and get it working on certain hardware is phenomenal. You see some ports having to make concessions, like this port taking out the music. You felt like companies were trying to utilize every ounce of power from these consoles to get them to run Doom _as close_ to the PC version as possible, and getting closer and closer with each port that was made. Obviously the PC version will always be better. But is it not cool to see them condense Doom to get it to run on a SNES? It's like getting Skyrim to run on your toaster oven. Seeing Doom run on more limited hardware is like seeing something that violates the laws of physics. That was the great thing about gaming back then. Everything felt like "magic". You think about the leaps and bounds it took to create FPS games (or just first person games in general) in the first place, the innovative programming techniques they had to come up with and how you saw each early FPS game slowly build off of the same technology. The "race to make things 3D" was mind-boggling. Honestly games like the original F-Zero, as primitive as they can be viewed now, were super interesting in how they got it to work. You saw early attempts at 3D move from simply rotating a 2D background layer to make it "look" 3D, with 2D sprites that zoom in and out as you get closer, to actual fully explorable worlds that are rendered from 2D maps yet you can walk around in first person as if they're fully 3D environments, with geometry realistically shifting based on your position and perspective. When we finally got "True 3D' with Quake, it was just amazing, you saw so many leaps up into that point. Then seeing consoles trying to run PC games was another spectacle in itself. I prefer older games for a lot of reasons. A lot of it is just gameplay style and creativity of older games. But one thing that definitely adds to the charm is being able to spot when a game was using technology that was new to that era. The parallax scrolling for the backgrounds of Castlevania 4, or some of the rotation effects used for stages in that game. Obviously that's kind of unfair to use as a point against modern games (like modern games still make technological leaps, but the technology is so developed that advances are becoming smaller and harder to notice, so it's not those games' "fault"), but does seeing the technological advancement still put a smile on my face when I play and watch these old games? Absolutely.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have played this back in the day on the PS1, it was more than just a Doom-clone. It really did have its own thing going on. Also, as someone else in the comments pointed out, this game definitely had a lot of what they would call 'liminal environments' these days. You know, that weird vibe where it's somewhere between being kind of creepy and really comfy. There's something about that angular and clean level design that makes each map have a strange abandoned vibe to it, even when you're being attacked by enemies. The PS1 version didn't have any music as far as I remember so I would spend a lot of time in dead silence hanging out in those levels, lol.

I have yet to play this version, but I played both Saturn and PSX versions and this is easily top 3 FPS of all time. Maybe top 2, along with Halo 1 for me. It's definately a case of being "more than the sum of its parts". It's the music that does it....it's the level design....the ammo system....everything just makes for a very unique flavour of a game. I wish there were more games like this.

I have loved playing this game as a little kid which was fun, especially all the techno music like the ending credits makes me go crazy and I frickin' love it!!!! 🤩 But more of a rap and R&B like old school hits more than techno dance songs HAHA!! Miss this so much and it brings me back memories. 🥰
