nicely done, i came up with the same thing except i use 2 pcs of 3/4" wide cut inner tube to act as rubber bands to strap to the drops on the handlebar and plug direct into the garmin. never use the drops really so its fine. works good as well. And here i thought i was the only one. lol.

Very misleading title. You didn’t extend battery life. You simply plugged in a power pack.

Agreed though, plugging in the power pack does extend the battery life.

So simple, but so ingenious! Garmin sells their external battery pack for $149! I'm only getting about 4-1/2 hrs of battery life with all sensors attached to my 520 Plus, so may give your trick a try soon... 😀

I was looking up how to replace the radio in a friend's transit connect. While this seems like it would work, you can actually get the keys off Amazon for just a few bucks if you can wait a few days.

I have just bought an Anker 10,000mah battery bank and whilst it charges my Garmin it turns off the power when the Garmin is full. It does not continually power my device. I have emailed Garmin and there is nothing in the settings that can be changed to allow the battery bank to continually power the device. The only option is to run the Garmin for several hours then plug in the battery bank to charge it back up whilst riding. Every time the Garmin is charged up you will have to unplug the battery bank and plug it in again later. Another option is to find, if possible, a battery bank that does not shut off the power when the battery is full so will continually power the device. Garmin say their devices stop asking for power when the battery is full but will start asking again once the power drops below 100%.

The battery in the video will continually charge. But I usually unplug it and cover it when full. I took it on a 16h ride and came home with. Full garmin battery

I used Velcro tape on a battery bank and handlebar for riding in cold weather with a Garmin Edge 820 to keep its battery up. It worked very well. However, the Garmin temperature sensor measured higher than ambient because battery recharging warms the internals. It was not a bother since I got weather readings on my Garmin (winds, humidity, temp, etc.).

Garmin warn about corrosion in the usb socket if you charge up the unit when it is wet so I’d be concerned about using this in the rain. Otherwise - looks good.

Try some silicon around the plug with a bit of Vaseline on around Garmin port so you can pull away without silicon sticking to computer rear 👍🏼

@@gweeto052 it worked like a charm the 1st time.. I took it out to check the connectors to buy the correct harness for the new radio.. then put it back while the new one was in shipping.. when I went to take it out a 2nd time, would not come out. Had to destroy the ok’d radio to remove it. Oh well.
