This may be a little late but I bought the Blackbox, interface all at the same time with the plans of setting up the table with the interface and running jobs with my laptop. What I have found and I could have saved myself $200 for me it's useless my buddy has one also and he feels the same way. I use the "mobile jog" on my cell phone you can find it in the openbuilds wizard.
It’s a bit more than that mate. The interface removes the need to have. A pc connected to the interface. You can probe etc and you can also send jobs over Wi-Fi to the interface unit.
Hi. All you are doing here is switching interface off and back on, which does work as it cuts the power to the interface fully. Switching the blackbox off does not cut power to the interface, even though it reboots and the LEDs/screen switches off it still has power. The only other way to fully reset the interface is to switch power off to the black box via the mains, not the blackbox power switch. I have the same issue as you but solve it by switching my main power on and off a couple of times. Not the black box power switch or the interface reset. I have also proved that my interface has power even with the reset pressed in and blackbox switch off.
As per instructions, you should not have the USB inserted when starting up the interface. When your cable is in, it blocks the signal of the USB port so it can boot up. Once booted, you can then add the USB.
Incorrect, some still don't work in this state. I have even had my usb led on with no drive inserted and black box switch off. Some interfaces have an issue
Clearly, not enough or rigorous enough beta testing with this thing. I'm still only touch and go with the usb connection to my blackbox. Not great technology. And the construction of this thing is questionable at best. A rectangular, wired, perf-board-walled pendant?? Were they trying to clean out the parts box?
I like mine but it was impulsive for me, I wish I could have the interface to use for homing and jogging and run my jobs from the pc, it's one or the other with this
Hi did you set it up as per the instructions you should he able to do everything you mentioned. You need to flash the USB from control software. Also depending on the version of your black box you may need to adapt it.
I had my interface stop a cutting job, but router was still running. I did an E-stop. I noticed was not communicating with the usb. Thinking back I remembered thinking that the USB port seemed loose when inserting the chip. I turned off the machine, dismantled the interface, inspected the USB port. Two tabs provide tension to any usb device inserted into it. I reformed the the tabs to increase tension. Now it feels more normal. I have run several jobs since with no issues. I realize you have a new unit now, but maybe someone else reading this may find it helpful.
Hi Mark I've just received a replacement unit from open builds and the usb has now been fixed and is working flawlessly. They have upgraded the usb component.
@@martyn1678 yes you can. There are various options for the feedback no noise/ vibrate and the beep think you can have bleep and vibrate. I have used the new unit for a couple of long days now and it not missed a beat. The only thing I have done differently with this unit is add ferrite cores to each end of the cable and I'm not using WiFi with the unit. I'll be buying a second unit for the new lead 1015 machine we are adding.
Thank You Appreciate you finding something that works.... I am thinking they either got a bad batch of USB ports or released this product before it was ready....
@@staceymiller5046 that sucks - the openbuilds team will get you a working unit. from my own experiance their customer service is excellent and im sure they are as frustrated as we have been. when my unit works it is awsome and should be an excellant addition to your workflow. my next task i have planned is converting my workbee 1010 to a 1015 lead high axis mod. and a enclsosure for it all parts should start arrivingover the next week!
