and what is this supposed to mean? humility? also, it if were another culture forcing jesus and the disciples to do this, i doubt they would have fared so well. e.g. the mongols. but they happened to be coerced by romans. but hey, continue your faith in your dead man. he will save none.
As a Christian I am happy with the Biblical-like shared protective side of the Roman law, I see the freedom a pro-active attitude provides, but can only hope, it happenes like this (provided there was a Paul left behind to guard my owb luggage;-)
In America we are so concerned with our rights, and our freedoms. We can't bebothered to help others through volunteering, and if we are made to do anything we scream and yell that our rights are being violated, or we want full compensation. Jesus wants us to look out for others. If someone needs a ride, give them a meal too. If someone needs a meal, get them two meals. If someone needs a shirt, give them a coat too. Go above and beyond in your giving to others, and your Father, who is in Heaven, will see this and find favor with your humility and generosity. It's a different form of the prosperity gospel; its asking how can I help others around me to prosper?
Is there an end to the constant need to remember how people have been historically oppressed and victimized? What if...now hear me out...what if we got over it and lived for a better future and not wallowed in the injustice of the past? What if you stopped trying to feel bad ALL THE TIME?
People snd cultures and nations do indeed do that, just that America is so infatuated with its past, rhe lies and truths of its history that it remains stuck in the mud. The president, who still believes it's 1950 is proof. America and it's good ol days are long, long gone so why would it not hang on to that if it has no future is the other question.
Keep in mind everyone. The Jesus they are showing us didn't look or sound like that. He was masculine and spoke with great authority. He didnt look like hells angel.
How did they not spot those Roman Legionnaires standing in the middle of that crossroads from a literal mile away? How did they walk up on them without even noticing them?
I see that The Chosen even went woke and made the Roman soldiers white and blonde. In reality, if the Roman soldier was from Italy, they'd have had olive skin similar to the Jews of Israel of the time. Or even more accurately, they'd have likely been from various regions of the empire, meaning they could have been white (Mediterranean or otherwise), Arabic, North African, or yes, even Semitic. But I see that even in The Chosen, the bad guys have to be white. 😂 Wait wait, hold up. They even make a joke about the black woman belonging to someone? As if slavery has only ever happened to Africans? When in reality, in that time, any region that was conquered would have had some people forced into slavery, including white people? I heard good things about this show, I didn't think it'd be so ridiculously inaccurate to fit modern progressive tropes lol.
Highly unliekly soldiers would give their most valuable bits of armour. Likely hood it would be bedding. They would definitely not give up their helmets.
The Romans were extremely cruel and they knew how to torture a human just on the brink of going unconscious, but would never let that happen! Crucifixion was done 100's if not 1,000's of times in and arou d Jerusalem during the first century. They dispised the Jews just like the Nazis in WW2.
I'm not Roman Catholic either but I'm sure we can appreciate that thru Dallas's and other's efforts, millions more people have come closer to Christ that they might have any other way. And isn't that what this life is all about, coming closer to Christ?
Guys come on! Use your heads and see that this show is relentlessly unbiblical on sooo many levels. And here’s just another example of it yet again. Jesus: “It is no more unsuitable on my head than any of yours” Judas: “We both know that is not true.” Open your eyes people! Think about it. Jesus, who is THE Truth, is being accused of knowingly speaking something that is not true. This is also somewhat portraying Christ as someone who potentially would have lied in order to keep others from feeling like they were beneath him. Did Jesus humble Himself? Absolutely yes. Did He, at the same time, accept the worship of others? Absolutely yes because He knew who He was. Christians out there, let’s start using some discernment. If you want to see what Jesus was truly like, just read the Gospels! Once we do that, then we’ll know when we hear something elsewhere that sounds nothing at all like the true Christ seen in the Scriptures.
Jesus refers to the practice of Roman soldiers being able to force civilians to carry their belongings for a mile in Matthew 5:41, saying “Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.” However, this specific incident wasn't fleshed out in the bible as far as I know.
Great series - Great historical presentation. Very Good! Well Done. ~ also the Romans worse pants - not skirts. Leather or Wool 'capri' pants that went below the knee. ~ Be Safe out there folks ~ Peace & Health to Us All. ~~~ 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” St. John 14 Amen
Seeing them walk the extra mile is so satisfying. The Romans no longer had to make them walk, but they chose to. It takes away all the fun the Romans had.
No telling how many times I've read this in the bible but never thought about what inspired Jesus to say it. What a great scene. Dallas does such a great job telling these stories.
I believe the message is that judas originally heard was if someone asks for your coat give them your tunic as welll the old give more than you are asked message
Good scene but no soldier would ever give his shield and helmet away. What if there was an ambush? Roman soldiers were too well trained and too disciplined to be so reckless. Not to mention, it would lead to punishment and humiliation for them when the Optio found out about it.
This is another example of the Wisdom taught by Jeshua Ben Joseph. When someone steals your coat, give him your cloak also. When someone hits you offer him the other cheek. It is a Brilliant philosophy! The Romans were stupified and would never forget this occasion. the love, wisdom and generosity of this incredible man Jesus!
No. Cause this is just a TV show, not a verse by verse reenactment of the Bible. They add extra scenes to highlight some “what ifs” or to visualize teachings lived out. This scene helps the modern viewer better understand the depth of the “if someone forces you to go one mile go 2” message. We don’t always see how badly they were treated. Or how that is a teaching to help the very people they were wanting to overthrow. Did it actually happen to Jesus and the apostles? Probably not like this. But it for sure happened to people in His audience
Surrealism of the scene. Manipulation of soldiers meets wanderers. Some legionnaires were in Judea as punishment. In ancient times, there was a penal garrison in Gaza.
Humilliating those that seek to degrade you with kindness .It can really throw them off .Similar to how the Centvrio at the Cross recognized the Divine Son in the most ignomious and abhorrent execution ever designed that was used for Slaves and Rebels to dehumanize them .The culture of my ancestors , so obsessed with notions of perceived power and self-glorification at the expense of degrading others , they saw the Almigthy Lord Who is Power and Glory put Himself with the impotent and humilliated and were humbled and believed .
