These things literally scared the heck out of me as a kid. Now as an adult I can appreciate the engineering that has saved many lives and they just continue to work 50+ years later.
I wonder if the 3 minute test is a new thing or if they just vary back and forth, I only got about 30 seconds there but that was two years ago, so who knows. Either way, really cool to see this again!
I've done something like that with other prints I've done, it definitely helps! I printed this model because I was bored. I did eventually design a cage for it, I just haven't printed it.
wow! I'm sure it'll sound loud! But, any chance you have a model or reference I could follow? I'm also trying to make a siren too! I have seen many other designs but none looked like this. Please reply, thank you! 👍@@szsirensofmn
@@milespeterson5049 If you're making a simpler siren, I suggest looking at smaller sirens like sirens from Sentry siren. If you want something similar to the one shown in this video, it's called the Cyclone 125 from ACA :)
I just slid the chopper on (didn't need glue) a standard science DIY hobby motor running at 3 volts DC. The motor was temporarily slid in an extra 3D printed stand I had on hand.
@@szsirensofmn I grew up in the city where this siren was first installed along with five others. This one and Emmetsburg are both ex-Mason City sirens and the only two anyone knows of being in existence from that heritage.
@@minnesotaoutdoorwarningsirens good question, but I’m not sure. Originally I thought it was the one that had its shroud broken while it was being removed, hence the retrofit shroud, but since then have learned that this one did have its original horn upon reinstallation and then lost it later on. So it could be the one I recorded, or one of the others that were both installed on different softball diamonds in MC, but it wouldn’t be the one that was damaged while still in mason city
Based on size and sound, this appears to be a 15" rotor, so the 3 horsepower rating should be correct... this one is just an oddball and even I don't know what exactly is up with it.
Nice you filmed it pretty much where I filmed it, this also goes off at 6pm, and it was installed originally in the 1930's according to the tag on one of the controls in the fire department, buuut idk im not 100% if these were made back then, id have to check. Great video!
