I bought one of these mid year. I was swapping out reels just now and noticed a lot of cracking on the clear plastic including the piece you turn to secure the reel. Has this happened to yours??
Hey nick! Take it all apart and spray well with wd40 and run all gears till it clears out then reassemble. I hope this helps. Don't be afraid to use a lot of wd40 and don't forget to oil again
Was curious if your opinion of this reel has changed since your posted this? Problem with this reel is getting parts when it requires maintenance, at least I haven't seen a source for replacement parts. Have you opened it up? I assume there is a lot of plastic. Thanks for your review brother.
Still using the reel and still operates well no problems to be 100% honest and parts may be hard to find but the reel being so inexpensive it would be better just to buy another. And I have opened it up and and oiled and it’s built pretty much the same as any 100 dollar reel and has held up well!
Hey Terrah, if you’re starting off, start by tightening the magnetic break system and slowly over time back off with the tension knob. Remember to keep constant contact with the spool with your thumb lightly feathering it as it casts and remember to stop the spool with your thumb right before the destination of your bait. To adjust tension knob reel your bait up all the way push thumb bar and loosen until bait Drops. If it backlashes once it hits the ground slightly tighten until it doesn’t. I hope this helps!
Glad it helped bro and sorry brother I'm a Christian man haven't touched that stuff in over 12 years.. but is a great nose picker haha that's why the nail is there honest to God. Take care man!
After a year of use I'd go with something different. The rod itself is great, but the locking mechanism on the reel seat did fail due to the elements making it brittle
Rod and rifle outdoors RU-vid for someone who’s just starting off using a bait caster, should I use braided line? Most of the research I’ve done says not to use braided when you’re starting out
Michael Crennan I used 30 lb braid when I started and it is a lot softer than mono or flouro and is easier to work with in general, the mono and flouro is kind of stiff so it’s only based on opinion but I totally recommend 30 lb braided line from experience, braid is also a lot thinner than mono so you could get 30 lb braid or 8 lb mono and they would be the same size
I really wanted to like this rod. But that reel seat tightening part. It's just too fragile. It's so bad. It's not a matter of if it's going to break. It's when. Really takes away from fishing with confidence.
Im a fan of braid then anything else, helps alot when your hung up dont loose so many lures, Our water here is so muddy it really does not matter but i typically will use suffix braid 30-40 pound really like the low vis green. I do use mono on my spinning rods because of the little bit of stretch you get. I only tend to use fluorocarbon on my catfish rods but always heavy test seems like fluro gets down to the bottom a little faster then mono.
@@coloradobassncatstv3648 For sure bro! I live here in LJ, I do alot of bass fishing myself and a little bit of everything else. Cant wait for spring time! We'll have to team up for a weekend of fishing!
@@coloradobassncatstv3648 For sure! you'll have to let me know next time you guys do a challenge at the park, i live about 2 blocks from there. Been waiting to warm up to get out to Blue and Timber, Couldnt believe the size of the stripers they pulled out of the stilling basin at John Martin a few years back! Like saltwater stripers, nuts!
Awesome review!!! I picked up one today an can’t wait to use it. Awesome to see a Colorado angler channel ,I’ve heard a few issues with setting hook am casting any recommendations
It's a good rod bro and a great buy and thanks for the love brother! But I'd highly recommend setting your drag, as long as your drag is set and not torqued down no matter weight of the line, you'll be good man.
Update: after using this I can confirm it’s legit! This is my new go to reel, I get compliments on it all the time on how smooth it is. It has two braking systems. I currently use it with 12-14 fluorocarbon and I use it for everything, from weightless senkos/flukes to heavy swim baits, jigs and frogs. I ordered my dad one as well. I ordered 3 more just because they’re so cheap and really legit reels.
Yes sir, you are 100 percent correct I told ya it was mind blowing, how well constructed it was and its capability of comparing with bigger name reels. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see how great it really is.
Colorado Bass N Cats Tv your review is the only review I have seen for it. Before I got the fish drops reel I had a $50 black Max and I loved it. I just started using a baitcaster at the time earlier this year. When I got the fish drops I was so surprised on how good it was. Now it really is my go to. I’ve never had an expensive reel of anything over 100 bucks, but hearing you say it’s very comparable to one makes me feel like I’m not missing out on much. I’ll stick to the fish drops. Also I use Berkley lightning rod, but I needed a rod that came in a two piece so I had to switch it up, I’ve been using a 6’6’’ berkley amp rod. I love it. Thanks for the review and the replies. 👍👍👍
@@zipzip8239 my fish drops bait caster unfortunately broke, I dont know if its because I dropped it a few times, but the spool release button (thumb bar) broke on the inside. My blackmail has been good for 2 years and counting now. im ordering another fishdrops bait caster because I loved it so much.
@@krystaldawn8921 I understand. Yes I'll make one tonight and post so you can have an understanding of how your reel comes apart and goes back together
@@krystaldawn8921 video is complete and uploading as I type. Hope it touches base on what you're looking for. I will post link here once done loading. Again thank you and tight lines!
Love the video! Gotta say I love this combo as a beginner. "I picked it up at Dicks early september. I have caught quite a few 3+ lb large mouth with this! Super user friendly reel!
