This is a great story I didn't know about. Hard to believe 5 years after this Rick Monday would crush a home run off Steve Rogers in the ninth inning of of the NLCS on "Monday" Oct 19, 1981 to send the Montreal Expos packing, it was a Blue Monday for Expo fans.
I remember that day - Great Job Rick. The American Flag should be very important to all. Sadly some in this great country still Hate American. But that's why Mental Homes are filling up
Always wondered what happened after he ran away with a flag they threw something at him and a couple of Monday's teammates went towards the 2 guys I always wonder if they got a beating
My Daughter shares a Birthday and year with this event. Those guys have the right to burn our Flag, but not the right to be disruptive at a public venue. They could burn all the flags they want on there own property (if they owned any). God Bless Rick
My brother Greg were a couple of 12 year old boys at our favorite place, DODGER STADIUM, field level, first base side. Saw the whole thing. A very surreal moment that I know I'll NEVER, EVER forget.
Almost every liberal right now at this time would be against Rick Monday for saving this American flag. Times have changed. Rick Monday is a national hero even today.
I wonder what would happen to an athlete today if they were to do the same thing? Would the reaction of the fans be the same? Would they be publicly shamed? Would they face a fine and sanctions by the league that they were participating in?
Would today's players react the same to an attempted flag burning... Sadly, I doubt it. A Kapernick double, and there are several, would strike the match.
