I briefly owned an OTAS 1000 back in the 1970s. Answer a question for me, your video states that the Abarth Scorpione was "the last car independently designed by Abarth". However, it has always been my understanding that my OTAS sat upon a Fiat 850 spider chassis. Have I thought wrong all these years?
I owned a Series 1 a 1972 model with a factory fitted electric sunroof, very rare I don’t think I have ever seen another one, my series 2 short wheel base had a factory fitted webasto roof , vinyl roofs were fitted on the Series 1s they were a fashion item on a lot of English cars in the very early 70s. The series 1 first appeared with a 4.2 and a 2.8 engine, the 2.8 was prone to piston failure, when the series 2 appeared they changed the smaller option engine to a 3.4
I wonder if using something like a Raspberry pie or Amtel controller would work really well as it all those GPIO pins to be used for controls on a car.
I lived in Pacific Grove for 46 years. The presenter of The Little Car Show is my high school friend John Moulton. He was a "car guy" before there were "car guys". Wonderful show and glad to have been a contributor.
Would to see a follow up when it's done, with the owner! It's unusual for a female to own a car like this (unless, ahem, it's a gift from an over-eager husband).
Have ALL the parts for a Euro Bumper conversion including. Hinges & rear reflectors. Would like to see video of replacing the hinges without removing the radiator, etc.
Thanks, I just posted that video so I could link it to the BAT listing for the car. Yea its basically stock but with the Webers and a 123 distributor. Good tour motor.
One of my favorite cars of all time. I was a bit disappointed that you did not cut to the different areas of the car as you talked about it. And it sound like a fabulous interior, but only a couple minor shots of it. Please add some interior shots, shots from the back seat, pan shots of the engine bay, etc., with voice overs. That will bring your production value sky high. Thanks.
Wow, what a great looking event! Now that my 72 XJ6 is finally on the road again, I'd love to make it out next year. Do they have a date set for next year, or do you know the link to their web site?
Nice video, these handle really well and are very competitive with a good engine in them. I am the registrar for the Fairthorpe section of the Fairthorpe Sports Car Club in the UK, anyone have any questions on Fairthorpes i am happy to answer.
The coupes were built from the SWB series 2 body, they had to cover the roof with Vinyl because removing the B pillar made the roof flex and the paint crack.
I think its Verde Pino. However, without fail the best reference for paint is if any of the original is there. Fortunately with this car we found the original on inner panels and matched that rather than go the code route. The code route often works, but having a bit of the original to match to is much more accurate. The chemicals have changed so much over the years, it if very difficult to recreate the original paints from codes and sample chips and know that you have it spot on.
Just found these series and we binge watched them all! 🤓 We bought a '77 XJ6 coupe last year (RHD) that had all metal work done already about 20 years ago and was then put away. It's complete and rust free, but will still need a full restoration. I'm doing this with my son, so it's very cool to find someone who takes the time to video document what they are doing so we can enjoy watching this together and learn from it Greetings from Belgium and keep up the great work! 👍
Hello Geert, thanks. Excellent project. The coupe has been on my list for a long time. My project is moving much slower than I had hoped as I need to do customer cars before my own, so that makes it evenings and weekends. I was 14 when I did my first project with my Dad. Awesome that you can do the project with your son. It meant the world to me.
Looks like I will be doing some research. I wonder if it may be mentioned in one of my additions of Automobile Quarterly. Projected weight? 1200lbs - 1400lbs?
I would love love to se an XJC restoration. Maybe a mild restomod with the bigger valve head, after market electronic ignition and EFI. And a 5 speed. For an XJ6c
Just a fun little car. The motor is right up my alley. Way too much fun! Thanks Joe! Give a little pat to Otis! Be good. Remain safe. Wishing you a Deluxe weekend.
This is only the second time since early seventies i have heard of the Fairthorpe Electron, There was one in Shaw, Lancashire, on the aproach lane to St Georges primery school, I thought it was a one off.
Cant remember the exact address, the guy ran a Motor spares shop in Shaw, it had a large matt black panel on the bonnet with his shop details on it. Car is fully restored now and painted in it`s original colours of light blue with maroon stripe.@@antonyhoward2759
Slowly. Shop has been very busy, so lost some traction on my XJC project. Finishing out the rear suspension build at the moment. Once that is complete I will be assembling for initial build.
Definitely on my bucket list after I get the Jag restoration finished. Assuming they allow 1972 cars. I hope you can post more on the event in the future.
The good thing is that the number of organized driving events has gone up significantly in recent years. There are a lot of opportunities, and a good number of them at prices that aren't too bad.
