watched this, checked to see if they were anywhere near Scotland then got tix for Dec .. so excited to catch them live at last. Day made. Hope they play this set list, Take your time is just bliss
It was such a weird shoot, with the stage layout as it is and the fact that I was too close to the band so shot in portrait and was going to edit in landscape but decided not to...but now I kind of love it as is!
went to the show in philly! they blew me away. watching them live was even better than the recording, just being in the same room and hearing that is something i wanna experience again. crazy show, best concert i think i’ve been to
Totally agree. Everything about the show was just excellent, sound, lights, vibe. I've seen a lot of concerts in my time and this one was one of the very best. As a fan of shoegaze, the guitars were such a highlight for me. I've been a fan of the band since the beginning but this was my first opportunity seeing them live. And now I know just how much I've been missing...
@@EdTaboada haha i know right? I was actually invited to go by my friend who knew nothing about diiv because i got him into horse jumper of love so we went to see them. I saw Diiv was headlining the show and i put him on diiv as well. I was honestly a little out of touch, i loved oshin as a highschooler and is the is are but i honestly lost track after that, although recently i had been looking for their stuff in record stores. I feel like i missed out on so much, everything about the performance was amazing. I could barely hear the vocals, but the stage presence and the groove/jam they seem to get into in every song is such a life-changing experience. I'm a fan of shoegaze, i never really realized they fell into that category. They've always been a surf band to me, i think they have something very special. Full body 2 opened for them, and while they were good and I enjoyed the music, to me it was very generic in comparison -- ALTHOUGH still good.
@@alex.2929 You know, I'm gonna use the frog in boiling water metaphor for Diiv in that they've slowly become more and more shoegaze in each record. But seeing them live, holy shit. Yeah, totally agree about Full Body 2. For me, they were pretty good but I love melody and they didn't quite hit the mark for me on that score. I'll tell you what tho', Horse Jumper to me were a huge surprise in that I like them on record but the live show took it to another level. I can't wait to hear the new album because the one review I read said something about maybe the band sounding more powerful, which is what I saw at the Diiv show. I had given up my spot to this girl who had made a beautiful Horse Jumper shirt and once they started playing, I totally regretted not holding on to it in order to record the show! I hope they tour soon...
@@EdTaboada yep! i agree. diiv has lost a bit of the surf and definitely i think fall closer into dreamcore for me, but i think they are leaning into the shoegaze label themselves. I’m surprised you thought that about horse jumper! i’m glad to hear. I personally thought they hit about the same live as the album but it was just really cool to see them play some of the songs from their self titled live. they played orangepeeler which is my favorite and i wasn’t expecting that. I have a few songs recorded but i feel so bad whipping out my phone so i just hold it up to my chest and try to experience it through my eyes. Have a few diiv songs recorded too. had to record doused.
@@jasonroberts2249 The whole show was not only a feast for the eyes and ears but so freaking funny, with the little film snippets and the fake setlist...then the website for the album...funny dudes
You're most welcome. I've started recording and posting anything I go to, but this show was really special on so many levels. I'm happy we get to relive it...
Thanks for this. I missed this show, as I already had Foo Fighters tickets with my family by the time this date was announced. Diiv is my favorite band of the last 10 years, so I caught the tour in Milwaukee the night before. Had to drive back to MPLS in the middle of the night, but it was worth it. It was my first time seeing them because the last time they played MN was Oct 2015, and I became a fan in Jan 2016 just before Is The Is Are was released.
Kudos to you for: 1) Catching Foos with the family; 2) driving out to Milwaukee to catch Diiv given your existing plans (that's serious commitment!). My first time seeing them as well and I was just blown away. For me, getting to Mpls involved a 7 hour drive from Canada and it was soooo worth it. Let's hope they come back a little bit sooner this time around!
@EdTaboada that's some serious commitment for you also. Your drive was 2 hours longer! Glad you enjoyed the show. I was utterly mesmerized the entire time.
Oh man, when things line up I try to see a band a couple of times so I had eyed both Milwaukee and Chicago but couldn't make it swing because of work. Like you say, a great band playing amazing music, I can't wait till I get to see them again...
I'm and old man and I've seen a lot of shows in my life. My first time seeing Diiv and definitely one of my favorite shows as well...This band is so dialed in
Looks like a good set! I don't know why they never seemed to play more songs off Welshpool Frillies. Such a solid album but they only ever played 2 or 3 from it. And I'm fairly sure they went back to recording together in studio for that one rather than it being a pen pal project like most of the newer ones have been, so I don't get why those songs wouldn't translate live. One of the best from this lineup IMO.
@@EdTaboadaThat's it! I was actually wondering if you were recording in front of his amp, cause I've seen them in concert many times & have never heard his bass that loud. He is a great bassist with a unique style!
@@toddlesiak3837 Yeah, definitely I had posted up closer to him because I just love his whole vibe while playing his bass, like you say, very unique style...
Ed, thank you so much for posting this. I was also on the rail, just a few places to the left of you. I saw The Afghan Whigs when they played the fine line in 2022, and this show was so much better. They are so great live!
Brilliant, yes, I remember you (and nice to meet you!). The only thing about this show is that it was too short...I could have used a few more of the old favorites, but it was definitely a great night!! Happy the sound on these came out so good on an audience recording using a phone..
Great quality posting thanks! I was lucky enough to see them on June 27 in Indianapolis. I'm an Aussie who's lived in 'Naptown for 13 years and been a fan of The Church since seeing unguarded moment on Countdown in 1980. My band covered a few of their songs in early 80s - such great guitar tones were a big influence! I was excited to say g'day and shake Ash's hand after the gig!
I literally started counting down the hours to this show as soon as I got a ticket a couple of months earlier!!! so much fun was had by all, happy that we all get to enjoy it again!!!
Thanks, but I couldn’t find it. Is it on a Church Facebook page, and if so could you please tell me the exact name of the page? There are a few different Church facebook pages. Ta!
I know.....I know....It was truly epic. I loved seeing Joey muck around with his effects pedals to get the little electronicky sounds at the beginning...
I know it's not quite the same as seeing them live but hopefully it's not too long before they come to tour in your neck of the woods. ps. Australia is definitely on my bucket list....
