Welcome to Moonbase Three! This channel offers deep-dive coverage of Transformers comics from the past and present, with an emphasis on analysis and historical context.
@@Moonbase3 Btw not to rush you, but when are you planning on covering issue 12? I love watching your opinions after I read an issue to get an alternative take.
Saudações cara, vc saberia informar se "TRANSFORMERS COMPEMDIUM 1" que já está em pré venda pela Amazon, será colorido, no site não tem essa informação, quero comprar , mas estou com essa dúvida, obrigado!!!!
I would be surprised if it wasn't in color. I can't say for certain as Skybound hasn't shown any previews of what's inside, but I think it's safe to assume it'll be in color. Whether it's the original Marvel coloring or the more recent IDW recoloring is unknown.
I think cliff jumper being yellow is optimus hullusinating bumblebee fighting beside him Pluss miscolors ad a bit of charm to the comics like it's hand drawn
Hiya, @Moonbase3. How do you feel about the news of DwarrenJ only staying on the EU Transformers until issue #24 . Interested to hear your thoughts on the series going forward in his absence 😁👋
I'd like more than 24 issues, but that's honestly more than I thought we would get with him on the series, so I consider it a win! He'll be a tough act to follow, though...
This Ultra Magnus was trash, Dreamwave and TFP Magnus defeated Shockwave with one hand and this one runs like a coward (Ok, it's just a joke. But yeah, Dreamwave Magnus was the GOAT🗿)
@@Moonbase3 yup, Ironhide, Mirage, Trailbreaker, Hound, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Prowl and Bluestreak off the top of my head are still not yet introduced. All they need is for someone to Jerry rig another syphon to that hydro electric dam, not get interrupted this time and boom! Instant reinforcements 👍
While I understand that Ultra Magnus would have that reaction upon seeing the one responsible for inflicting centuries of torture, I'm disappointed in this issue for two reasons: Firstly, Ultra Magnus begs to be involved in the fight. He's obviously determined despite his trauma. If he's *that* traumatised from his ordeal (which is understandable) then he really shouldn't have been included until he's able to process and heal. The speed with which he collapses is disappointing. I can't help but feel that the Autobots making the decision would have more information available to them than is presented in in each panel, and would have had some clue that Magnus was not ready to go into combat. The second thing that irks me is that "Magnus suffering mental trauma and having a breakdown" was done in the original Marvel comic run, after he got trapped in a volcano fighting Galvatron. That was almost 40 years ago now, and he's been depicted many times since then without that flaw, but it stuck with me as a child and so seems like a rather obvious and, well, lazy development - like how Optimus seems to die in every storyline, now its Ultra Magnus having a trauma-induced breakdown. I was also disappointed at how the Autobots ignored a guy who has a laser for a hand - in the middle of a hostage situation - so they could have an argument, as if one cannot have a conversation with someone while looking at something else. Frankly, I've lost sympathy for these characters and they deserve to be wiped out because they couldn't focus on their mission for even 30 seconds. (Losing sympathy for the 'good guys' doesn’t bode well for staying engaged with an episodic story, so we'll see how long I keep reading)
It's actually an old Ultra Magnus theme. The fear. In... the UK comics I believe he had PTSD/Fear of fighting against Galvatron after being defeated so many times. Except here it's made even darker and more brutal.
Optimus, Elita, this is why you listen to Wheeljack! Magnus was not ready nor should it have been asked of him to do something like this. If they activated Ironhide or Trailbreaker or Hound or Sideswipe or any other couple of bruisers they (probably couldn’t take on Devvy true but) could have held their own against Shockwave and the other normal Cons. I got bad vibes WJ is gonna pay for this mistake next issue, but hopefully not. I got great vibes from this video but that’s standard issue with MB3 😎 (great job man!)
Thanks, dude! 😎 And I really hope Wheeljack isn't the one who pays the price, but he did question whether or not Magnus should be fully restored...I wouldn't put it past DWJ to go straight for the jugular with a setup like that!
When i was young, i watched the original cartoon. The autobots drove everywhere. 😂 Now that im older, i realize how impractical and how LONG it must have taken them to go places in the cartoon. I am glad they have teleport tech now through Skywarp...
What i love about this run is that the characters feel so alive Each have a chemistry unique to one another The autobots are not as united as you would expect Elita is mad at prime and the rest of the earth autobots for abanonding them for million of years.... Wheeljack got mad over the death of ratchet and is looking for revenge strapped with ammo and generades Jazz is close to cliffjumper like always They all feel so alive i love it If this was a show it be the best show since prime
Understandable; I mean, Magnus was practically unrecognizable the first time we see him. To quote TFP: "It is the external wounds that heal the quickest".
I wish I could like this book like everyone else seems to. When Magnus took off I wanted to rip the comic up. Yes I get he has PTSD but giving him PTSD is cooler than having him show up for payback and kick but? Just because something can make sense doesn't mean its what people want to see. I am so sick of Johnson killing off characters for shock value. Characters that could have had good stories going forward but are just killed for what reason? So we are on edge and worried who will die next? If I wanted to read that I would read walking dead or a horror comic. Also its been almost a year and the Autobots have been worthless with exception of Optimus Prime. When do our heroes get to win? If the autobots are this pathetic and their is no Megatron, what are they going to do when he finally returns? What sucks is I know Magnus will probably eventually man up but it will be to sacrifice his life and there goes another favorite character. Glad Springer and Hot Rod are in Void Rivals, they might be safe from Johnson.
At the start, seeing Magnus run was funny to me. But it makes sense that he would. He was tortured for who knows how long by Shockwave. Him folding at the sight of Shockwave makes perfect sense. You try facing your trauma when you are not ready. I’m interested in seeing what they will take Ultra Magnus later on in the comic.
As much as I love this book, I’m not loving this arc. They are spending a lot of time waiting around. I understand taking time to put all the pieces together but after the fast paced 6 issue start, this feels like a slow burn. Makes me wonder if they are gonna speed run a finally for this arc or keep going with this story line of Cybertron in earth’s atmosphere. Overall though it’s still really solid
Having re-read vol 1 recently, I agree that this is not at the same breakneck pace. I still think they can wrap up the Cybertron/Earth plot in one issue, but you bring up an interesting possibility about it bleeding into the next arc...!
I like the parallels between Cliffjumper and Ultra Magnus. Cliffjumper was in a position to take out the Decepticon who was heavily responsible for wiping out his clan, and he couldn't pull the trigger (in issue #6). And Ultra Magnus couldn't because of his PTSD. One subtle thing I liked about this issue was that it showed that while physical wounds can heal relatively quickly (Magnus went from being a shell to his former self in a matter of days), physical wounds and psychological wounds are two separate things entirely. I'm guessing Ultra Magnus' fleeing the battle will cause some fan division. After all, the Autobots had a choice: repair more fallen comrades, or put all of their resources into repairing Ultra Magnus, and Ultra Magnus pled for Wheeljack to fix him. That said, Ultra Magnus could not have known how a confrontation with his torturer of 100-200 years could have impacted him.
Moonbase, wow, this is a deep issue. Shockwave is disturbing. Do you think Megatron will take him down? Will Megatron be even worse? Ultra Magnus, with PTSD, what an interesting twist. Moonbase, one question. When do you think we'll see Dinobots? Thanks again. Fantastic content.
Thanks! I think it's possible that Megatron could take him down...assuming Soundwave and Thundercracker don't beat him to it. ;) As for Dinobots, I really don't know. Hoping it's sooner rather than later!
I honestly thought that it would be a fake out & Ultra Magnus was actually Jiahxus. Yeah a bit of a stretch but still it would be a surprise. Idk I think I saw a few details that looked like him to me when they found him so that's why.
Oh boy so Beachcomber and Magnus are out, maybe they make a comeback next issue, but realistically it’ll probably be the Dinobots that will be the big linchpin that saves the day. Unless an Autobot combiner team shows up like the Arielbots or something. I liked how Arcee sucker punch Elita cuz I’m really tired of this girl power writing in today’s popular media and it looks like Daniel Warren Johnson isn’t gonna fall into that habit here. Love this comic 👍
I thought the art couldn’t get any better, I’m so glad to be wrong! The art is absolutely gorgeous with beachcomber surfing, Magnus half-repaired body (seriously that design is sick) along with a fully-repaired Magnus ready for action and devastator looming over the autobots!! Also while I’m heavily disappointed about Magnus running, I do kinda prefer that he did. I mean hear me out: there’s the fact that Shockwave literally tortured him for years and skinned him to the point of him begging for his life to end, that would traumatize anyone. Also it makes the story different, we already saw Optimus come back to life and kick the cons butt, if Magnus didn’t run we’d more than likely end up with the same result, so this changes the story and finally, it gives some serious development in characters and also re-enforces others. Magnus most obviously is gonna have an arc over trying to recover, Arcee is gonna have an arc about trying not to focus on revenge and instead focus, Elita possibly could have an arc about wondering if she really should’ve saved Magnus or an arc about caring for him or something, and most obviously (to me at least), Magnus running shows how vile and menacing Shockwave is. I mean look at shockwaves line after Magnus drives off: “HAHAHAH I BROKE HIS MIND NOW I BREAK YOUR BODIES!” It’s scary, the autobots should’ve been able to win easily now they’ve gotta focus. Magnus leaving helped re-emphasize how terrifying Shockwave is, and the damage he can do (also he threatened Cliff’s life which again helped show lol) I do also wonder how Beachcomber and Spike are gonna get involved, I also thought maybe Beachcomber would learn to fight instead of being a pacifist but it seems like they’re gonna try to still have him keep that mindset which is nice, find a work-around instead of just throwing comber into the fight. Maybe spike and him will storm the base when no one’s looming and shut down everything. Overall, pretty neat issue, wonder how the endings gonna be!
Ultra Magnus is my top 5 favorite character in transformers. I know some people are upset by him showing cowardice but man it really was a crucial moment for him seeing the person who made his life a living hell. I truly believe he’ll be back next issue and participate in this fight. Maybe a Arcee sacrifice to put him back on the path? (Hope I’m wrong on that haha) Great analysis as always dude!
I don't know what's going to happen next issue, but I'm fully prepared to lose at least one Autobot. I hadn't considered Arcee, but maybe you're on to something!
You nailed it. Corona has absolutely killed it on Transformers. I have honestly come to truly enjoy Corona's Interiors & Covers as much, if not slightly more, than DWJ. I still like DWJ's action panels more, but anything else, I now prefer Corona. Whoever made the decision to grab Jorge Corona to replace DWJ, needs a raise over at Image Comics. And although Corona's taking a quick break from Interiors (He's still doing the B Covers) for Issues #13 and #14, I am hearing Corona will be back as quick as issue #15!!!! Moonbase Three, keep up these really great reviews!!!!
I feel like Beachcomber's doubling down will come back to his senses, but I almost feel like he's going to pay for his sins with his life. Shockwave is going to get his comeuppance with the assist or at least the allowance of Soundwave, who doubles down on fixing Ravage .Shockwave, I still say is wildly out of character, and his doubling down with stuff like mistreating his underlings is going to be a problem for him, too..Hopefully Ultra Magnus will find his courage again. I did NOT think he would be good, but I also didn't think he would cut out like that. I guess if I was tortured for millions of years I'd probably lose my nerve, too. I still don't like it BECAUSE it's Ultra Magnus. Only two characters changed their minds in this issue -Skywarp and Ultra Magnus. Lots of doubling down, but it all builds up to the finale of this second arc - can't wait til issue 12.
I love Ultra Magnus and I really enjoyed the surprise decision on how he was handled here. Like you said, as long as it’s interesting…I’m onboard. It makes for a wonderfully engaging roller coaster. Beachcomber & Spike have quickly become the duo I am most interested in currently! Very much looking forward to see how they play into the conflict next issue!
I’ll say…I feel like the earlier issues/videos were longer and talked about in more detail and it really put all the puzzle pieces together on each issue- I feel like I missed a couple pages
I appreciate the feedback. I'll keep this in mind moving forward. I think my process is going to naturally evolve and change over time, but I don't want to get too far away from what drew people here in the first place. I'll pay more attention to making sure I'm finding a good balance. Thanks!
Sorry to disappoint, but I appreciate the honesty. All I ask is that you give it a chance - I truly believe videos covering multiple issues of Scarlett and Destro will make for a more enjoyable and substantial viewing experience.
