Tesla, opening up their supercharger network to non-Tesla vehicles is the greatest possible thing that could have happened to electric vehicles. I didn’t feel comfortable taking my Cadillac LYRIQ out of state until this happened. Now I feel like I can drive across the entire country using Tesla superchargers. Here in the north east corridor at New York City. The Tesla superchargers are usually never packed. The only exception or the taxi/limousine commission cars which have lines of more than 20 vehicles waiting to charge. But when you move out towards Long Island, most of the Tesla superchargers are unoccupied as most of those people have the ability to charge their car at home and have little to no incentive to bother with a supercharger. GM cars are slaved to EVgo charging stations because they give us two years free of charging credits. Hopefully Tesla will hurry up and open the network to those horribly slow busy 4X Toyotas. They charge so slow slowly-they are the worst.
I completely disagree. What the average person needs is level 2 plugs where we live, work, and run errands. Much better bang for the buck and the absolutely only thing that will let 60%+ potential buyers transition to an EV. Nobody is going to stop buying gasoline until they see a working plug almost everywhere they park.
I’m a Tesla owner… I definitely like it. When I talk to people about EV‘s and if they don’t want to Tesla, it’s hard to recommend anything else as you know Tom because all the charging sucks with the CCS networks. So I am happy that people are able to charge the Tesla superchargers the more they get on board quicker the better it is for everybody. I really don’t think Tesla owners are going to be mad. I very rarely see a Tesla supercharger filled excepting certain locations at certain times.
Can hardly wait for cold weather when the Uber Bolts are charging at 15 kw, and the Tesla drivers are forcibly removing the plugs from the Bolts. Good times ahead.
Not sure what the comment "Tesla owners don't like it" has to do about the situation, because it is not true. Just make sure you don't get 2 places and charge to 100%. For the rest, don't you worry, the Navigation will redirect any Tesla to a less crowded Supercharger.
It's 2 bad that the charger plug in location can't be standardized to be on the driver's side back panel like a gas door so that all vehicles charging at a Tesla location pull in the same, never really understood why most places them on the front qtr panel instead...
It's all fun and games until you try this in California. Tesla owners can barely find an open stall at a lot of V3 sites. The Bolt EV can at least use just a single, nose-in stall if necessary, and the HUMMER EV and Silverado EV will only require single stall.
Tom, i have a '23 EUV with the in-dash GPS. Do you know if GM is working on an update to add Tesla fast chargers to GPS? That would be a huge help when travelling. Thank you for all of the information you provided in this episode. Ill be back in touch for the correct Level 3 garage charger for my Bolt. -Todd
@@newguy954 The gm chargers weren't around a year ago when I bought the car. I frequently drive Interstate 40 cross-country. I bought the Tesla a year ago because of Tesla's charging network. The gaps between Tesla chargers are filling in real fast with alternatives.
Hey Tom, thanks for the short, I feel like all of the non-Tesla brands should have to put their charge port on the rear driver side so they don’t take up two spots. That’s the only problem I see.
@@BillB33525 but you can pull in either side and every pump reaches both sides and they only take up one spot, if you had to park in the middle and take up both pumps that would be a problem
The "invasion" is not the issue here... the issue is each GM car is taking 2 spots for charging ... this is so lame. Talking about Superchargers etiquette, right ?!?
@@newguy954 ahahahah ... and you do believe that Tesla is going to go fast for either installing those V4 chargers or retrofitting those 20ft cables ... I think you still believe in SantaClaus ...
It's a shame that no one could foresee this issue. Evidently, GM execs thought that EV chargers were going to drop out of the sky, like manna from heaven.
@@davidmenasco5743 we still have not seen any decent GM exec nor strategy so far, especially on the EV side where they are failing big time and reverting to plugin hybrids ... laughable. Soon they will ask for subsidies because their ICE cars are no more selling.
The takeover will be short lived if GM owners (including yourself) can't learn to park between the lines. Note how the Tesla is perfectly parked within the lines while both GM car are haphazardly parked like they own the place!
They have to park that way for the cable to reach. Oh, and in case you didn't hear, Musk said it's OK to park that way if you need to. And well, he owns them, so...
Five years from now, you'll be lucky if your neighbors allow you to crank up your fossilmobile. Climate change is no joke. It's hitting hard right now, and what we've seen is just the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg.
Norway is absolutely a leader in EV adoption, but the US has nearly ten times more public DC fast chargers. Norway isn't the big fish when it comes to DC fast chargers, not by a long shot. China is actually the leader.
What happened to the partnership with ChargePoint and Mercedes. Did Mercedes kick ChargePoint to the curb in favor of Alpitronic? How did they address the NACS connector issue?
