Hey Shawn... nice shooting. I'm a big fan of the 338 EDGE. I built one with a Gain Twist Barrel starting at 1-10 and finishing 1-9. I've hit 4 out of 5 in a row 2500 yards in competition with it.I love it.I was going th Ackkey Improved like my 300 RUM A.I. but decided not to.I replaced my 33XC with the 338 Edge.I added a tad bit more FreeBore and it shoots great with 300 grain Hybrid OTM Berger at 2956 fps. No pressure no heavy bolt no primer issues or marks.Brass looks great. I have 32 inch barrel.
Depends on how you do it, I use a case mate so the case is upside down when cleaning. This makes all the carbon etc fall out of the case as you clean, so yes. If you are using a hand brush and holding the mouth up then no.
Everyone complains about the blue tint but that is because they employ a notch filter. It is impossible to get these ranges without one. Vectronix uses notch filters too and they also have a slight blue tint.
Next time I rebarrel I think I'm going to send it to you guys. It's just an absurdly accurate but physically inferior action. Savage. It's been a creedmoor and a 7SAUM and I just never get to where I ought to be, I always hit the wall about 5 percent below what I'm after, right around 90 percent fill. In some cases I'm a couple hundred fps below other folks with the same recipe and COAL. Essentially I'd be chasing the performance of a proper shouldered barrel and action by shaving off that peak pressure and adding the 2-3 grains that I'm leaving behind. Really appreciate your teaching style.
Thanks for a thorough review. Currently I'm using a Bushnell 1 Mile ARC rangefinder, sorta the first really good mid-priced LRF binocular. I WOULD like the SIG Kilo 10K if it had at least "HD" glass but preferably ED glass. And I'd pay another $400. for that ED glass.
@@ShawnC338 correct me if I am wrong but the adapter is called an Outdoorsman instead of sportsman. Great video and work by the way. I will hopefully be able to get a pair of these in the next two months. Great work
Maybe I missed it. Is the graphite for seating or for sizing? Nice Video. I've been hovering around 20 fps, much better than necessary at my current max range, but it's still chapping my ass. Annealing has helped a LOT with consistent sizing but I'm still missing the next breakthrough, lots of ideas here.
I am comparing the optics to a Vortex Viper SxS and the image quality from the Sig is a little disappointing. The ballistic software and range finder are great. Unfortunately I think this is a deal killer for me since glassing is such an important part of a successful hunt. FWIW
Hi Shawn, Im using a Terrapin X and Kestrel Elite. Im wondering if I should get rid of these things in favour of the 10K binoculars. Keep it light and effective. Any thoughts? Cheers Hamish
@@ShawnC338 I saw the vectronix can range a lone coyote on snow at 1700 yards. Can this unit do that? That's pretty damn far. I'll never shoot farther than that even at a target most likely. Second, for inside 1500m would something like a leica geovid be better just because of the better optics? Again I doubt I'd ever get past 1500 so likely within that range a more hunting oriented unit might suite me better. Thanks
The kind of shooting i like to do...random and tests skill/luck. Vs going to any type of range on a perfect level platform at perfect ranged targets...100, 200,...1500
You mentioned your gear getting wind chill so I thought I’d tell you a little about wind chill. It’s only experienced by warm blooded animals. We have a layer of warm air around us and the wind strips that layer exposing us to actual temp. If you touch the side of your pickup that’s a true representation of actual temp.
The kilo10k gave you your windage? and how did it do that? You said it, does temp, humidity, and pressure? I havent seen a listed stat for "enviromentals" other than "onboard enviromentals" Great review, Ive been thinking of doing the same thing, eliminating a few pieces of gear into one unit, but I probably still keep the kestrel in my pocket haha.
You can access the enviro on the menu to see what the on board sensors are reading. The wind youhave to enter your estimated mph and direction, the ballistic app with generate a windage correction to include spin and cor.
I just built a 300 RUM. Trued rem 700 with heavy Lalja 32” plus break barrel. I only have 40 rounds down the barrel but the chamber is cut 4.150 and I’m loading at the moment 4.125 and with the 250 A-tip and 245 Berger’s I’m at 95 grains rel 33 @ 3050 fps. Do you think it would be worth doing? I also considered ordering another barrel to switch out with this rifle for the 338 edge
Hi Shawn. I have the sig kilo8K and it works with base map exactly as you want it to. I have used it and it works great, range an area and it puts a pin on that point on base map. I have never seen that screen with the cross hairs come up on my phone before. Hopefully it’s just an update that the binos need. Great review, thanks. Great channel by the way.
I sent an email to BaseMap‘s customer service after looking closer at my Sig 10k I noticed that the compass is way off. I’ve done everything trying to calibrate it right but the compasses 30 to 40° off. Very disappointing.
Great review just received my 10k today. After playing around with it and base maps I found that you need to upgrade to the pro package in order to send a marker remotely from the kilo to base maps. They way they of making money. I don’t know that I’ll ever use the app seeing I live on east coast but like playing with this technology.
Shawn, you may want to revisit the part on how to range and mark a point on Basemap. It definitely does work exactly how you said you'd like it to work. Just make sure to pair the device before using the remote marker option.
The device is paired, all permissions are available, fought it for 2 hours last night got it to work twice and the pin it dropped is way off of what i had shot at. I recalibrated compasses on both units, started restared both units, unpaird and repaird the devices. Last I used the base maps remote marker with just the base maps version and not paired to the 10K this also produced pins not in the right location. Not sure where to go from here. I had done all of this prior to making the video but did it all again to confirm. Seems to me there is a comunication issue and a pin location issue.
@@ShawnC338 Man that is such a bummer! Maybe reach out to SIG and see if they could offer you any help or maybe replace it for you. Could just be a bad unit? When I fired up my 8k for the first time everything just worked. I didn't really have to mess with it much at all and the Basemap function worked flawlessly. Best of Luck.
I just checked mine I don’t get that binocular screen you’re looking at but mine is way to the left too I’m sure they’ll fix it they better for the price we paid.
Have you guys ever check the compass on the SIG 10 K? Mine is about 40° off. I’m certain it’s a problem with the rangefinder. When I use BaseMap Alone the compass is spot on.
Not sure your using it right. Mine works just as I thought it would I can pin point all kinds of Marks and it doesn't work like what you showed at all, maybe mine is an updated version I dunno.
@@ShawnC338 yes, I just pair the binos to base map then click the same button you showed in the video but instead of it asking for range and showing cross hairs like in your video it says range now then I range and it drops a pin with precision accuracy, I was very impressed.
@@ShawnC338 I think I figured out the issue actually and just confirmed it. Go into basemap, tools, devices and pair the bino and that will fix your problem.
The occular adjustments are pretty stiff and take effort to move in the first place, didn't have any trouble with them moving once I had them adjusted. Also on the wind call I simply estimated the wind speed at the shooter and almost doubled it. This has worked well for me in terrain like we were shooting across.
@@ShawnC338 I have the 3k which seems to be similar mechanically and it's kind of a process to focus one ocular to get the reticle in focus, then use the main focus at distance and adjust the other ocular for the diopter adjustment. I'm really worried about handing them to someone and getting them back adjusted by a person that doesn't understand the interplay of the three focusers...
Very interesting. Been wanting to pull the trigger on this product. This review is helpful in my decision. Kinda disappointed in the base maps issue, I was excited about this feature. If you get any updates on this issue I hope you can post about it or dova video if you have time to do so. If not I understand. Thanks, very helpful!!!!
Lol publish the data for how much it reduces pressure and your pressure testing on a +p load. You won’t because it doesn’t exist and you’re full of shit
It’s been a while since I came over to see you- can’t afford to shoot my 338 anymore lol 😉 But this is what I have in mind for a new high country piece ! If it’s not listed on your site - I will hit you up
