I grew up in Pella. I try to visit at least once a year, but I have to say: this was incredibly well-produced and informative. You opened my eyes to so many things that I had no idea existed. I've just been hitting the usual spots, but now I have so many more things to check out. Great video. Can't wait to spend more time/money in my old home town.
This town is were the Ringling brothers of circus fame grew up. There was a porch fire December or 2021. The house got damage by the water putting out the fire. The house is being saved. It still stands at the end of Walton's hollow. On the road to pikes peak.
If you have the means and the time, I highly suggest doing RAGBRAI. If visiting NE-IA I suggest Pikes Peak State Park, Effigy Mounds, Spook Cave, Marquette/McGregor, Harpers Ferry/Lansing area and taking time to fish the tributaries leading into the Mississippi. It was a magical place to grow up.
My wife and I are planning a move to Iowa (likely Ankeny) later this year or next spring. I've enjoyed your short videos- very enlightening. I do wish you'd include some additional info like population, maybe show where the town is on. a map, etc. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I'm from Marshalltown -- a town about an hour or so away from Pella, and I can attest to Jaarsma's Bakery being top notch! Red Rock lake state park is also fabulous. If you like fishing from a speedboat, you're sure to attract the gulls by going quite a fair speed, because the boat stirs up the fish and the gulls will follow you. At least that was my experience some years back when I was there with my ex and his folks. I love fishing, but I didn't care if I caught anything or not. My biggest thrill was seeing those gulls flying behind us. I'm also a rockhound, so I went looking for really great stones to take home. And that was just as fun as fishing. #naturegeek 😁
@@louislamonte334 not even the only green walmart in the whole world?! I rarely shop there, but it is neat to see that pella forced walmart to not be blue
@@finchi55 Walmart has done incredible damage to the United States! It has destroyed innumerable small businesses, gutted vibrant downtown shopping areas in communities of all sizes, ruined the landscape with ugly big box buildings surrounded by acres and acres of parking lots and made us dependent on China and other foreign countries for our manufactured goods just to name four of the biggest evils of Walmart. When you go to Walmart next notice how trashy and unkempt the people that shop there are! Wake up and so some research into how truly evil and bad Walmart is!
Howdy from NC! Loved this video, especially since we've walked many of those same locations. Thanks for bringing back good memories. Oh, and you have a beautiful family, too!
Wanting to plan a vacation to iowa with my family. Live in Washington state but have always been fascinated with iowa. Please comment on musts to stay and do. Have 4 small children and want to experience cabin country rental and small town charm. Where to start!?
Craig, Iowa looks forward to welcoming your family. There are lots of great options depending on what else you want to do with your family. Here are some of my favorites!! Grumpster's Cabins in Marquette & McGregor (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-taHWimJJ6ac.html); Country Cabins in Chariton, IA (www.country-cabins.com/about-us-hotel/) and not too far away is Honey Creek Resort (www.honeycreekresort.com/stay/cottages) at Lake Rathbun (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pyhGrEfqVog.html). My favorite, though, is probably Decorah High Point Cabins near Decorah (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QrZ6AaidzMc.html). We can't wait to hear where you decide to travel to. There's lots of options so good luck in deciding your adventure. You can always check out www.traveliowa.com for more lodging options.
@@em3rgemarketing thank you for responding. Yah Decorah cabins looked beautiful and caught my attention! Is there a lot to do within driving distance of the cabins? And what town is the nearest airport to fly into?
You hit all the businesses in Marquette and Mcgregor, and left out maiden voyage tours how is that possible one of the last small working tour boats on the entire Mississippi river I doubt this will find anybody that gives a you know what or will give me any I won’t get anything back out of this Why don’t you come down and do some thing about some advertisement for Maiden and Voyage tours right underneath the bridge in Marquette Iowa oops forgot that Denteley.
Robert, we apologize that we were not able to go on the Maiden Voyage tours. We were actually standing right by the boat as we happened upon it while in town and wished we could have taken a tour. Unfortunately, no one answered or returned our calls so we weren't sure whether or not tours were still happening. This is good to know as we will definitely be taking a tour with Maiden Voyage tours the next time we're in the area. Exploring the Mighty Mississippi by boat is a great way to see the beauty of the eastern part of the state.
@@shellygreving Thank you so much and prepare for more Coloradans coming as California has invaded CO. Would love to hear about your business as I purchased a commercial property. The Ryan Pub and cafe had been closed 14 years when I came across it in a tax sale. Ryan's last historic building on Main St. A Cafe and Bakery is on the horizon after a lot of work.
For those who don't even know that LeMars or other small towns in Iowa exist, we strive to showcase places that are worth the trip beyond the main highways of the state of Iowa. We're hoping that this inspires more travel to LeMars and from there visitors explore even further locations 'off the beaten path.' We'd be curious as to what other places we should visit in and around LeMars from your perspective!
