Catching this late Jang but I’ve always watched your videos for your general creativity, not the specific. You keep doing what makes you happy and I’ll be plenty happy with that. You rock. Ignore the haters. If their opinion mattered they’d build their own stuff.

Was wondering if you’re going for traditional model railroad layout but in lego, why not go back to a perimeter layout?
@JANGcity
@JANGcity 2 месяца назад
LEGO track is wider than O gauge, but the rolling stock is all significantly lighter and less powerful. The 180-degree turns at either end become a huge problem and here I just don't have enough space, plus the depth of perimeter tables would be half what I have now and leave a huge wasted open space in the middle of the room. I have to consider long-term access, rebuildability, the streaming computer & camera rig, etc. I've reconsidered my table layouts countless times and experimented with numerous options digitally. Nothing else has come close to this crooked 'C' across all factors combined. I just need to shorten it a smidge for comfort.

Good stuff Jang! Nothin like a fresh start! It'd be good to see you try some train inclines, bring some more elevation changes into the new world 👍🏻
@JANGcity
@JANGcity 2 месяца назад
The LEGO train systems are fantastically horrible at handling elevation changes. I had one years ago that rose & fell just 3 or 4 bricks across the entire (shorter) width of the room to cross a small, humble drawbridge and most of my trains struggled even with that small incline. If you run stock LEGO City trains which are incredibly simple, hollow, and short, you can get away with a lot. When you make custom rolling stock and want to pull more than a handful of cars, you quickly lose to physics.
@mattscott8961
@mattscott8961 2 месяца назад
@@JANGcity Ah...I see your issue. I run mostly standard lego trains...5 or 6 cars, so my inclines work okay. My layout is more of a shunting puzzle than a huge freight transfer situation. Your MOCS are kinda next level though. Anyways, I shall watch intently as your new vision grows! Cheers, and thanks for replying 👍🏻

So jang will you not be having a designated Jurassic area anymore? Or is it just for the time being then you will add in a Jurassic prehistoric area or something along that lines? Just kinda curious about that situation what your planning with that lol

have you thought about MILS plating?
@JANGcity
@JANGcity 2 месяца назад
Yep many times. It'd be around $5000 at the low end, incredibly time-consuming and gain me no advantage while only adding disadvantages. Makes it harder to make any layout change that doesn't involve rearranging 32x32s, makes organic train ballasting more of a nightmare, makes wiring lights much more expensive & more difficult to maintain & adjust. MILS is great for folks who do a lot of convention work, but otherwise skipping them is a huge benefit.

Hey Jang, now you're fully on board the less is more train, have you considered doing away with the standing walkway in the middle and having a long narrower layout? It could make it way more efficient and easier for the planning stage. It's hard to judge scale as a viewer but I'm estimating it would be workable in terms of things in the middle being in reach for you, though admittedly I could be way off.
@JANGcity
@JANGcity 2 месяца назад
Yeah I think the scale is different than you're perceiving. My table runs are about 6 baseplates across, so a comfortable arm's reach from either side. I've spent months digitally experimenting with table layouts to optimize and this is definitely the best & most effective arrangement for many reasons the average viewer won't always immediately see in every video.

Maybe I can learn from your example once again and breathe new life into it :) always love your work Jang, I'm glad you're keeping the planetary defence force base haha :)
@KidarWolf
@KidarWolf 2 месяца назад
I don't know whether it helps, but it's kind of a well-known secret in the model railway hobby: a layout is neither permanent, nor is it ever finished. You can always find something you want to do to it, and sometimes that means destroying what you've already created to make something you like better. Think of it like a natural cycle: a volcano creates land, and the water erodes it away. Change is inevitable, and offers new opportunities for the brave.
@charlesnew5834
@charlesnew5834 2 месяца назад
Yep I've done similar stuff myself in my own projects, one day you just look at everything and realise that it sucks. I've found that it absolutely pays off to redo something you're unhappy with when it comes to creative endeavours and I've never regretted it.
