People ask me ... "why do you do this?, why do you spend days upon days, putting together these videos of yours, and then making them available to the whole planet for free?" My response to them goes along the lines of "I started doing this a few years ago, and never looked back. I think it is the right thing to do. To share what little we may know. It goes along the same way as Wikipedia, but within the realm of expertise of each person, and in a conversational tone, with the apparent proximity of the video. It is an open invitation to others to do the same. To share what they know and love with the world."

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the class ! I have a little question: when ypu compute Id, how do you know it wasn´t the other solution of the quadratic equation? My calculations shows that it could also be 7,9mA but couldn´t understand the criteria to do not consider ir. Thank you so much once again!

When I try to solve the equations I get empty brackets why?
@rolinychupetin
@rolinychupetin 4 месяца назад
Possibly, you need to enable the use of complex numbers in the reported answers in CAS settings. Without it, you are asking it (XCAS) to solve the system but prohibit it to report a complex number, hence .... empty brackets (the way of XCAS to tell you, there are no real number solutions).

Boa noite!! Valewwww
@rolinychupetin
@rolinychupetin 6 месяцев назад

Dear Professor, Apologies for the late comment, I just found and purchased a HP Prime G2 for my Engineering studies, and am very grateful for your videos. For this one, however, when I tried to solve for w using the exact steps you have mentioned, instead of nice numbers, I got some very strange, long results with _y and _x. Do you know why this may be the case and how it can be changed? (FYI I have tried again with the virtual emulator, and got the same result)

When I press check after writing this simple resistor program, the (physical G2) device returns a "syntax error". I'm stuck there.

The syntax error sends the cursor to the "offending" bit in the code. It could be as simple as a typo in the name of a variable.

First of all thank you Sir for sharing your knowledges. Second, someone solved the first problem? If yes here are my answers: S(Source) = 0.704 - j3.874 kVA S(Factory )= 1.346 - j3.7 kVA I considered 125V and 63A as peak values.
@rolinychupetin
@rolinychupetin 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for your kind words. AC voltmeters and AC ammeters read the RMS value of the corresponding parameters. The standard in the electric energy industry is RMS for any voltage or current (unless explicitly specified otherwise). That means that 125 V and 63 V are both RMS values. Please, try again. Observe that the active power delivered by the source cannot be less than the active power absorbed by the load.

Dear Professor, Thank you for your channel. It is valuable. But I think I see a "bug" in the RR program. RETURN should not use the "()" to return value - using it, you return the complex number a real part :). I noticed that by a small mistake. I wanted to round the output to 2 digits, so I wrote RETURN(ROUND(r1*r2/(r1+r2)),2). I was surprised that the evaluation was x+2i. I made a mistake, and I realized output is a complex number. Now I have "RETURN ROUND(r1*r2/(r1+r2),2)", and it works perfectly.
@rolinychupetin
@rolinychupetin 8 месяцев назад
I waited before responding to give time for you to realize the actual source of the wrong operation of your program. Here it goes. The line that you wrote, let me copy it RETURN(ROUND(r1*r2/(r1+r2)),2) has an error indeed, but it is not the optional parentheses after RETURN, it is that you closed the ROUND( bracket too early, it should be after the ",2" so the ROUND function receives the two parameters that it expects. Do try RETURN(ROUND(r1*r2/(r1+r2),2)). I commend your willingness to explore functions in the PRIME, but I strongly advise against using ROUND in what will be an intermediate result in a longer and more complex computation. The loss of those digits may, most likely, add up to a wrong final answer in the solution using RR. I've advised my students against that in class, and I thought it fair to add the same advice here. Thanks for your contribution and enthusiasm. There used to be a course on the propagation of errors in long computations. It was part of a Physics lab in the first year. I hope that it is still taught.

Great video, I have just bought an HP Prime for my nephiew, he wants to study enginnering, so in my opinion this is a very good Xmas gift, I had an HP 48GX when I was studying engineering in the 90s, a great machine, expensive but worth every penny I paid for it, but, as always, you need to start by the basics and learn how to use it to get the full potencial of it, thanks for the video and merry Xmas (2023 :) )
