I was at plenty of shows during this time and as much as I wanted to disagree with the riot girls , it was brutal for any girl near the pit or god forbid crowd surfing at shows. Some men are pigs 🤷♂️
This is my power ERA The first time in my life the men closest to me no longer took the lead. I took one hundred percent control and responsibility. I was independent and I left my shit head abusive boyfriend outside of Eugene and took a cab to the airport. I paid for my flight at the airport and started over. Rumor has it he’s still in Oregon waiting for me to come back with a gallon of milk
This song works really well acoustically, but I like it better when the guitar octaves follow the vocal melody like on the studio version. Overall, a kinda sloppy/less inspired version here, but a great song. There's a recent video of Corgan doing it solo/acoustic and it's pretty cool.
Romans 10 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."//
Punk gigs I've been to, women would be protected at the front by the boys, I did guard duty plenty of times. The actual mosh pit would be a bit much (we use to call it slam dancing, for a reason) but sometimes you'd see some girls walk into the mosh pit and most guys would mosh around them, trying not to hit them. Funny seeing a wild mosh pit and a group of girls walking through it without too many accidents. You're going to get at least some bruises, nature of the game.
Yea so strong and independent until its time to load the equipment, unload the equipment, drive the trucks, fix mechanical issues...you know the stuff the so strong feminists cant do themselves.
@@ocho_muerte I did finally figure that out actually 😅 thank you tho!! He practically is the face of hardcore to me at this point lol but clearly I'm a noob 🤷♂️
It pisses me off so much when I meet someone who listens to Nirvana, Sonic Youth and the whole alt rock scene from the 90s and keeps talking trash about women and feminism. It's like they got it all wrong
If this happened now, either shed be cancelled for tranzphobia or all the trans identified males would be rushing to the front. And everytime women need to keep fighting for our rights.
So i've tried my best to aid the women's movement but has not always been a happy relationship but in this case like if they were all "Girls to the front" it'd be like "the back? cool. I will but I mean by preference I'd rather be up there but It's because for once there won't actually be a super aggressive mosh pit, but it's cool. " i've been to punk shows before mostly because of the fact that although a bigger fan of goth music where we were at the hayday of when I was doing this much more frequently than I am today simply because my friends are now all in cyber space after several relocations. but back in the day we were doing it was early 2000s and then a ltitle later but like to put it mildly there's always some older man there who's 6 foot 4 and 200 pounds of fucking satan that is sitting right on the outer edge of the mosh pits and if you want to do whats natural simply because you like it loud and be up close what happens if you get too close to the stage? Even my 5"10 ass will simply be shoved in by the 6 foot 4 pile of shit that literally thinks that adolescent bullying is what punk is all about. anyways the goth shows were stupid expensive in florida. Ozfest? Christ. 60 bucks to even get in the door for a 15 year old kid. the big punk shows never ran over like 25 bucks. Basically I don't like the mosh pit either. Ive had to Get women OUT of those pits. I'm trying to empathize though my apologizes if not doing it too well. I mean I totally get why women wouldn't enjoy the mosh pits at shows. cause it has been one of the less enjoyable parts of concerts for me as well. my friends and me were able to mosh but once it's a ticketed event where anyone can pay to get in and the general public is invited things get to be too much.
I can see both sides of the argument but one thing for sure is if you raise a band like Bikini Kill up too high it's no longer punk. It's preachy. It's woke. It's religion. it's mandatory honor, esteem. "Look at how rebellious and forward they were oh my, we would have no culture if it wasn't for them." That's a little much lol. I mean....it's in the the very essence of punk to be rambunctious, martial, angry...complaining about getting hurt when you go to a show in that period is like.... I don't know...I don't understand it. So you want to go to a show and not get hurt? I mean... I think the majority of people want that yea? Let's go out, have fun, and not end the night with internal bleeding. Sounds excellent Sherry. The problem though is that there is another audience who WANTS to fight, WANTS to push, WANTS to mosh. They all have different reasons. Some lads go because the pit is one of the few places accessible where you can scream and not look strange for doing so. Some go to stir up trouble. Some go because it's fun. Whatever the reason, the point is it's established...this is what happens at these shows. Like or not, good or evil. This is the reality. Punk girl Madison " who hates her name and has her friends call her Ash instead" holds her boyfriend's jacket and sits in the back while he fights. Take it or leave it Maddie. Now, if Bikini Kill wanted to have girls front row without getting hurt. Well, that is quite the opportunity for punk girls. Great way to interact with the audience, show you care and everything else. It also creates a sort of rapport. Madison can depend on the band to look after her. Great. It's quite another thing to go to someone else's show and start dictating what should and should not happen. For me....that's kinda preachy and not very punk. Not trying to get into a no true scotsman argument. The point is, the punk scene of the 90's is larger than you. Much larger. It is not going to change because you broke a rib on the corner of a table. However....you CAN create your own little pocket in the punk scene where that does not happen to your fans. And good for you. Is it me saying what you can and can't do? No. It's the situation. Studies have shown though that women have a tendency more than men to use "X" outside of its intended purpose. Dating apps are famous for this, becoming merely extensions of instagram. It makes me wonder if there was a society in which ordering mercenaries by app was legal if women would use it to get a ride somewhere like Uber. " I mean I'm paying you to do what I want anyway right?" At the heart of punk is, among other things, "don't be weak." Nature shows women are weaker. A woman will die if she fights a man to the death, fist to fist. Unless he is very stupid and she is a capable fighter/tactician, able to out perform him. It can happen and has happened. So you have this spectrum of weakness now because of the introduction of women into punk. It's very desirable for women to be involved in punk. They can contribute in ways men cannot. Philosophically speaking men can dish out more than women but not take as much as women can. Men are more spear than shield. Women can take more than men but can't dish out as much as they can. Women are more shield than spear. Both sorts of strength are wonderful and are rightly expressed in such an environment as a punk show. Women show strength in ways men can't. It's the difference in the kind of strength ( shield/spear) and the inability of both sides to identify, understand and cater to the other. The average punk guy won't care about or understand why that is important but others will....maybe. The exact degree on that spectrum of weakness when it becomes intolerable, annoying, hypocritical, is due to an internal alarm of unfairness. It is not unfair for women to get pushed at a punk show. This is what happens. Go make your own show with no pushing, be brave, shut up and get it done. Your audience will love you for it. But the attitude of trying to overrule an event that is PURE SPEAR can quickly saunter into the waters of "I can cheat on you, but you can't cheat on me mentality." At the very least, that is how non-thoughtful, sexually frustrated, angry young men will take it. " I can have a punk show without the fighting and you have to sit here and take it"......Ummmm.....lol..... no, they will tell you get out and do your own show. " I can't stop my step dad from burning my arms on the radiator at this time. And I can't convince my mom to leave him even though he hurts her too. You're not going to take this moment from me when I express myself." SO MANY stories, some sad and some basic with nothing tragic, all meeting and clashing in one loud event. For the men who find this irritating and who like to say things like " if they want to be treated like a guy then they are going to get it." No, that's not what's happening, they don't want to be injured. You could care less if you are. Their concern for themselves is not weak, it's different, because they are different. We lack the mechanisms to see to each groups needs without losing the spirit of the event, subject etc. All modern suggestions are not helpful either. They are vengeful. I just don't think society is capable of understanding these dynamics enough to navigate such relations, encounters. It's too close to the issues. I'm trying to figure things out myself. Fuck me right? Hopefully, one day, in the spirit of Eric Idle, Aliens will arrive who have an understanding of the correct relationship between men and women and will organize our society in a manner that harmonizes our natures. Fuck off.
