Gosh! I’ll get my ‘Friday’ concert any way I can get it……even if I’m listening on a Wednesday……….Havana is a hard one to play…….I’ve tried doing it on my ukulele
Hi! I play every part on the cello (my main instrument) so if you watch the video, you'll see me playing the viola part on the cello while the jwpepper.com full orchestra recording is playing in the background. Hope it helps!
At this level, usually it's divisi - technically, outside plays the top note, inside, plays the bottom note, but if you're learning how to play double stops, I always encourage my students to try to play both notes so they can work on hand frames and intonation.
As a freshman in high school practicing for all county, this really helps. I’m 2nd violin for this song (I’m usually a 1st) and I gotta say this song is pretty difficult. Wouldn’t say it’s the hardest peace I’ve played, but I have to audition in front of a LOT of people by myself. The song ending for violin is my absolute favorite though. Thank you for this video!
Scott, so wonderful. It’s not as good as hearing you on Friday afternoons, but it was great. I play the ukulele, well I’m learning, with a group and we actually play this. So good to hear you…….thanks so much. Always, Joyce
Do you think you could isolate your cello audio? I'd also like to see your bow hand as well. We are playing this at our upcoming final and would like to hear how it's done. Thank you.
That's a great request - I do most of my recordings over breaks (summer, mainly). Once the concert season is in full swing, I have very little time for uploading...for future videos, I'll make sure my bow arm and hand are fully in the frame. I try to balance the cello with the audio so you can hear how your part works with the orchestra, but I can certainly bring that up in future balances. Thank you for listening, happy practicing and have a great concert!
I felt nostalgic and had to see if this song was uploaded. It is one of the few music sheets I still have. I played this in middle school back in 2002. This really bought memories of all thw after school practices I had to do to go to school field trip to a performance competition in Savannah,Ga. The cello sounds so nice doing the 2nd violin. I am also bias bc I was a 2nd violin back then. 😂
I have a really important concert coming up. This is one of the songs we are going to play. I just wanted to thank you for making this because I was really lost when I got introduced to this song. This video has helped me to know when to play and when not to play. Thank you so much ❤
Hello, thank you for the video. Is there another one available that shows *where* to place the left fingers in first position? Beyond “place your first finger down”?
Hello! By.. "where" do you mean exact placement? If your teacher uses stripes, those can be great to start. I like to match open strings whenever possible to frame my hand and then you'll find most notes will ring when they are in tune. Are you able to hear a major scale? Can you sing the pitches and match your voice? You can also use a free web browser tuner called tuner.ninja - that can be nice to help guide your hand. Hope that helps and happy practicing!
