Appreciate you checking out the vid... Yea that wind was horrible... Glad you got out there, a 50 mile ride with a huge head wind is still a very hard effort 🤙🤙
@@offthegridoverland4425 honestly for me it was word of mouth... The big ones are Ididaride, tour de San Felasco, Graham 360, Santos epic 50 and gone riding... Most happen earlier in the year... Some in south Florida happen in the summer.. Also go look at Facebook groups about mtb... Ur local area will post events.. Welcome to mtb
Just started riding a few weeks ago, and I tried this trail. It kicked my butt. Any suggestions on trails that are in the are but easier for new players?
@@JPoppVlogs I would try Moses creek which is close to this trail... It's on the rooty side initially but smooths out... It really helped me in upping my cardio game and allowed me to learn how to take corners correctly... Mala isn't bad, as long as you stay on the blue trails... The black portion will take it out of you... Hanna in Jax is a good beginner trail as well..
Great video. For real..... I'm here 2-5 times a week in the early evenings for a few years now and I've never seen that "alligator basking" area. UGH. If I had seen this earlier today I'd have found it. I can't believe I've missed that. I've been down in there before but I usually go right up the middle-main part.
@@danmay3464 thanks, appreciate you checking out the vid... Yea that cloud nine section gets confusing, glad my video helped... Catch you on the trails 🤙🤙
Hey bro, yea I remember you... For sure... Going to Graham tomorrow morning at 9am...you are welcome to join... Otherwise we can connect at Mala some time... Are you on Facebook...?
nice job clearing all those techy sections, half of them I don't try anymore, there's just so many fun lines in there. Vid was very low resolution though, sadly?
Appreciate you checking out the vid, yea cloud nine has alot of fun lines to pick from, so much fun! Just uploaded the video, typically youtube takes about an hour so so to process and bring up the resolution... It should be in its 4k glory by the morning...
Thanks, appreciate you checking out the vid.... Yea it was very well organized and the trail was well marked... This was my first time doing the epic 50 and I didn't have any issues with finding my way.. Well worth the experience, I'll see you next year... 🤙🤙
Yup I did... I also ran a slightly lighter rear tire.... Dissector VS dhr2s... I set my bike up for rock creek, which we rode the day after, but it was a mistake, should've let it be...
Nice. So I'd say one of our favorite loops is park at Guion Farms, pedal up gravel on Sky Valley Rd, down Rocky Ridge, up Ruffed Grouse, down Hooker, optional Hickory Mtn, down Ridgeline, up Jim Branch, Isaac Heath, Hilltop Loop, back the other way on Isaac Heath, down the little piece at the end of Jim Branch, Buck Forest Rd back to Guion Farms.
Nicely done - the ride AND the video recap. I rode Epic 50 last year and had a blast...and slept REALLY well that night. This year I decided to only ride out and back to the Land Bridge and spend more time riding around Santos trails/Vortex. Glad I did - had a blast testing my nerves on a few jumps at Vortex (I'm more of an all-mountain guy here in Atlanta) and test-riding a few newer 29'ers from the bike vendors. The Ocala MTB Assn does a great job with this event overall - will be back!!
Thank you, appreciate you checking out the vid... Vortex and that pit area is loads of fun, were it not for the event, I would have been there riding that part as well... GA has alot of great trails, we make do with what we have in Florida 😂.... OMBA does a great job for sure...thanks to this event, I got to meet many new people with the same passion... 🤙🙏
Great Video, Great Effort! You captured the difficulty of this year's ride perfectly, and you did it! Congratulations for persevering, so many got to Lunch and bailed, your video is the first I've seen that captures how horrid Road 2 was. (We left the log on the right of the deepest crossing so you had an option to walk the log and use your bike for balance. My wife did that during trail prep.)
Thanks for checking out the vid, mick... Yea it was a tough one but a great experience overall.. Yes that crossing was soo deep, I thought about using the log but then just decided to ride it cuz I had already been riding through all the other flooded parts....
Appreciate you checking out the vid... I'll definitely come visit ur booth next year... Thanks for supporting this awesome event... Had a great time 🤙🙏
Hey I'm interested in getting into biking! Is there any beginner bikes you would recommend? Looking to purchase something hybrid like your bike but not break the bank too much!
@@sleepysoul8896too many variables... Start with the terrain you want to ride gravel or road and which would you ride most....? Gravel bikes (what I have) give u alot of versatility at the cost of nimbleless, lightness and speed of a road bike (I have road wheels on mine so it helps but will never be as quick or nimble as a dedicated road bike) ... Once u decide on the riding you want to do... I would direct you to the used market. Lots of great deals to be had given the bike industry is down... Good luck with your search... 🤙👍
@@Bringinheat thanks for reaching back to me! And yes i getcha! A gravel bike is exactly what I'm looking for; something in the middle. I've been trying to find some affordable ones, and as I'm still pretty young; I don't want to spend over <$350 ish...which is why it's been hard trying to find a good bike that fits my needs. It would be greatly appreciated if you had some pointers for me!
Nicely done and congrats on finishing. I did my first Ididaride 20 years ago and have pretty done them every year since except when my wife and I are cycling around the world. These longer events are very addicting so be careful before you know it, you'll be looking at the ORAMM, Cohutta 100, PMBAR, Santos 12 hour solo, and many others. Once those events aren't enough there is Randonneuring and then cycling around the globe. ;-) Cheers and happy cycling! ~Ron
Appreciate you checking out the vid... That's awesome..the bug is already there... I am probably going to attempt the Santos epic 50 next and then the Graham 360 race the very next week after... 😂😂
yea the mud/water definitely made it hard this year. my shoes were soaked at the 6 mile mark and there were so many long stretches of mud/water later on
Yea man.... Just when you thought they were over with... Another long stretch of mud and water was right around the corner to greet you... My shoes were completely soaked as well at the 6 mile mark.... And then again in the 42 mile mark with that deep creek crossing
You blew past me in the first leg and 2nd leg and I was worried you might bonk. Glad you were able to find pace and finish. It was my first "50" mile as well. Was a tough one. 5:04
Thanks for checking out the vid.... Yea it was a muddy mess this year and it was unseasonably hot, 80 degrees in the afternoon ... I haven't ridden the tour de Felasco... May try that one next year... 🤙🤙
Hahaha it's always the last one.... Happened to me at Beech Mountain as well... Very last run, right near the exit, I fell on some gravel and scratched up my bike... After all the gnarly shit I did all day long, loose gravel got me... 😂🤣
Yeah man that p 1 climb is no joke! I almost lost my breakfast up there . The down hill is worth it . Also I took the Rock hopper hardtail that day instead of the stump jumper full suspension . I guess I am a glutton for punishment . Lol
Lol bad ass.... Yea the trail was rougher than I remembered it to be..... That climb is no joke, my wife and I damn near passed out the first time we hit it cuz we were complete newbies and just started mtbing ... Now it's doable, given we have a few years of riding under our belt.... Appreciate you checking out the vid 🙏🤙
Between 14-18mph....u can really pick up some good speed on the trails but u need strength and cardio. I did this segment on day 3 of a multi 20 mile a day ride...
LOL you are soo right.. The GoPro makes everything look soo much tamer and smaller. It was our first time in Alafia, hands down one of the best trail systems in Florida. We will be back to ride those other trails you mentioned... So much to do there.
