Been watching this show a lot lately and this has given my American mind quite the workout! Why no one has tried to bring Countdown to the States is beyond me!
Coriander and cilantro is not just Americans say cilantro and British say coriander. Yes, British say coriander for the whole plant. But Americans use both words, coriander and cilantro, and they use them differently: specifically, coriander is the dried seeds, whereas cilantro is the leaves and stalks. They are used differently in food; cilantro is a herb, and coriander is a spice. They can't be used interchangeably. Anyway, that's just a start of the difference between them, and it is not just Americans say cilantro and British say coriander.
This one was the first consecutive jackpot, and man it must've felt bittersweet lol. Like, if they were a "returning pair" then they could only curse themselves for not beating the previous show's team and giving them the chance at the jackpot, but they were a new pair, they got a fresh jackpot, and they were the only team all day to score a pointless which means the 1250 pounds is the absolute minimum they could've won.
As someone who can actually name every single actor who has officially portrayed The Doctor, this round was very interesting to me because being first actually mattered quite a bit. If you went first and just counted up in order of obscurity then it was a guaranteed win.
how they both did not get 840 is truly baffling to me....guess thats what you get when you have 10 word rounds and only 3 number rounds...maths does not matter
The revised scoring format MASSIVELY benefitted the winner. Jo's math rounds miscues and Jay's conundrum win sealed his win. Jo would've scored unanswered in six of seven consecutive rounds--and would have in the seventh had their words counted. By my calculations, Jo STILL scores her 50, while Jay drops from 58 to 28 if the original scoring method stood intact.
It's weird seeing Elliot Paige being described as the 'juno girl' because I can't remember the last time anyone has mentioned juno, normally people either reference him via Umbrella academy or Inception
I used to hate this bloody show, but one day on a Tuesday evening. I sat on the sofa and I watched an episode, and then I watched another after then it started to grow on me. Now I like it.
