“Hello there!”

Stories and storytelling are my number one passion in life. The aim of this channel is to give ‘MyTake...’ on various mediums of storytelling, be it films, TV shows, books, videogames etc,

This is an opinion-based channel and should be regarded as this. What makes a ‘good’ story to one person can differ from someone else. Although I hope to find a community of individuals who share similar ideas on what makes truly excellent storytelling.

Expect coverage on everything from the superhero genre, the fantasy genre, sci fi, crime and thrillers, and much, much more! If you like discussions on pop culture, I hope that this should be the channel for you!

Thank you for your time! :)

Let this message be loud and clear for those that suffer from low media literacy. Frenchie has always been BI not gay BI. It frustrates me to no end seeing comments say; the fact that he’s gay is pandering. As if he was not in a romantic relationship with both a man and woman at the same time in season 3, the death of Jay was far deeper and more painful than the loss of any acquaintance or friend it’s palpable. I don’t care about representation but truth and this has been the case time and time again. Colin is in many ways an extension of Jay and the trauma that caused him. 2. The irony of some audience labeling Frenchie as gay when a pivotal plot element in the earlier seasons was the erasure of Maeve’s identity exemplifies why this show is a perfect satire. It knows how people think, or rather how they don’t, life is imitating art and so many have become what the show satirizes about the very characters in the show in real time. He is not gay and yet… that’s all he can be seen as just like Maeve. 3. The introduction of Colin gives some tension to an otherwise done deal of Kimiko and Frenchie. They were a relationship that could never happen but now they move on, but with the conflict of Colin there’s so much internal conflicts going off all at once, Kimiko and her glimmers of jealousy at what she swore not to be affected by, Frenchie’s touch of death that affects everyone he gets close with rearing its head yet again, he must understand he is destined to die alone, or hurt others in his own selfish search for companionship. All while a keeping a secret from the man he claims to care about. Good shit. For there to be story there needs to be conflict. Otherwise the characters of Kimiko and Frenchie would need to be written out, or relegated to not being worth the time of watching. This is a drama show people, media literacy please.

I always viewed their relationship as that of a brother and a sister, especially since she lost her biological brother. It is VERY creepy when a caretaker abuses the gratitude they get from the one they nurtured to get some kind of a romantic or sexual relationship with them, even if unintentionally. It's like if a doctor who saved a woman's life tried to get a date with her, very inappropriate.

I personally think it's leaned a bit too hard into politics side of things and less about developing characters and growing with them. Like i loved the focus on homelander ageing although i do feel they should have put some attention to that in S3 too. But these small important things with the characters get overshadowed by all the politics. And something that i dont like about this show so far is throwing in so many random shcok factor scenes to make you uncomfortable. Yes i know the boys is R and i dont mind the gore, i think the gore helps to show how powerful the supes are and it helps set the boys apart from other series. But they've just added random scenes that are over the top just to make you uncomfy and for a shock factor, they dont do anything or have an impact is all
@Dremsal

I honestly agree with the politics stuff, but I believe it'll only be a major thing for this season. I'm pretty sure Eric Kripke wanted to do a lot of politician stuff this season due to them knowing that elections would happen this year, but I could be wrong.

The Daniel Craig James Bond era has come to an end with the release of No Time To Die. My introduction to Ian Fleming's spy occurred by reading the books beginning with Goldfinger and Thunderball. My first Bond movie was Dr. No which I saw with my family at an outdoor drive-in. Another great feature of the Bond films beginning with Golden Eye with Dame Judi Dench assuming the role of James Bond's control M and the deepening of the relationship between them. While the popular idea is Dame Dench's character's death in Skyfall was a way of giving the Bond franchise a boost after the poor reception of Quantum of Solace I suppose a different perspective. Skyfall was about the past experiences which formed M and James Bond. In the scene where Daniel Craig is about to go after the assassin Patrice he asks her "Is there anything you want to tell me?" Bond had surmised the villain behind the events of Skyfall was from M's past. This past is revealed in M's confession to Bond after the interview of the captured Raoul Silva. Both Bond and M had to deal with a past of attachment ultimately leading to betrayal. Daniel Craig confronts M about her betrayal of him by having Eve Moneypenny taking the shot that nearly killed him. The entirety of Skyfall is about its main characters confronting their pasts.

Thank you for your perspective around Skyfall especially. For me, that is one of the strongest Bond films, and I intend to cover it on the channel at some point. I really like your idea about how the theme of the movie is around the past, I think Skyfall, and the Craig era in general, have a little more focus on the idea of legacy more so than previous entries. This manifests both in the plots themselves as you've highlighted with Skyfall and with visual details like the bringing back of the Aston Martin DB5. Which makes sense, given how by this time, the Bond franchise has a lengthy history to it. Thank you for your comment, and thank you for watching!

Any attempt at analysis of any piece of media, first one must know what is being spoken of. For example, he begins by saying the most important moment. The fact that he does not know the term “dramatic structure,” his description is so clumsy as to make no sense. But mostly, there is no excuse for mispronouncing the word “nuclear.” He does this constantly. Each time, he says “nucular.” NUCULAR? It’s like saying Eye-ran or Eye-rac. Does he think he’s George W. Bush who mispronounced “nuclear” into “nucular” just to hide his true Connecticut background. The mispronunciation of NUCULAR is a sign of illiteracy. This speaker is illiterate.

the first dune really grew on me after a rewatch! tbf i only went to watch the film because oscar isaac and rebecca ferguson were in it haha i think dune 2 was a very competent film (it's visually and sonically stunning) but i do feel it's even more build-up for part 3. also i didn't care for zendaya's character and thought she was the weakest part of the film (even though i really love zendaya's performance in euphoria). rebecca ferguson was easily the best performance of the film. my friends who have watched it think it's an absolute masterpiece but i don't think it meets that threshold for me, though i think the film will grow on me after a rewatch.
@MyTake...
@MyTake... 2 месяца назад
Yes, I definitely agree the first one grows on you upon rewatching. I've found that with a lot of Denis Villeneuve films actually, whilst I thoroughly enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 and Prisoners upon first viewing, I found them to be even better upon rewatching - which to me is the mark of a good film - if a rewatch enhances the experience rather than subtracting from it. "Sonically stunning" is an excellent way to describe it, especially as Zimmer's score does some very interesting things sound design-wise. Rebecca's performance was great I agree, I think the Dune films have a very unique feel, even within the realms of sci fi movies, and I think that's why a lot of people love (or grow to love them), myself included. I also agree that this film continues to lay groundwork for the 3rd movie, and I think the film does this well, and leaves me excited to see where the story goes next! Thank you for your comment, it's always lovely to engage with people discussing all things film related. And thank you for watching the video! :)

Agreed. As mentioned in the video, I've yet to read the books, but when I do I'll have to see whether the opening story beats of 'Bad luck, and trouble' aren't as strong as the opening of 'Killing Floor" - If so, then that might be the reason the writing isn't quite as immersive at times (I also have a possible idea about why it feels that way but I'll save that for a future video). @@MyTake... Personally I stopped expecting the screen adapations to be representative of the books. I loved Ludlum's Bourne series but was sorely disappointed when they made it to the screen. Books and adaptations are entirely separate products...one can only hope the characters and story are remotely what they are in the books. The farther removed from the initial source the worse the adaptations become. Consider what Disney has done to the Marvel MCU.
@MyTake...
@MyTake... 5 месяцев назад
Yeah I can understand that, especially after so many things being very poorly adapted, as a fan of The Witcher franchise (games and books) what Netflix did there was very much a let down for me. I think there are cases though (albeit exceptions) where things are adapted much more closely to the source material, both in spirit and in plot. These are two very obvious examples, but despite the fact that they had to omit certain things for runtimes I've always felt personally that The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are good examples of adaptations done well. So I believe it can be done, it merely requires people involved who are both talented and passionate about the thing they're adapting (and not too much studio interference), which sadly isn't as common as I wish it was. When I read the Reacher books I'll be able to see where the show falls on how closely it adapts its books. I think in the case of Marvel and DC they're more inspired by rather than direct adaptations of specific comics. The Batman for example has shades of Year One, Zero Year, Earth One, and I'd even say The Long Halloween too as comic inspirations, but it isn't a direct adaptation of any one of them. I'd be curious to see whether people would actually prefer that - direct adaptations of comics over stories loosely inspired by them? Thanks for your comment, it's nice to have discussions about stuff like this! :)

Great breakdown. The thing that drew me to watch the film was the fact that it just kind of came out of nowhere. With no budget like Iron Man behind it for advertising, I just stumbled across the movie poster online somewhere. And it wasn't plastered first page spam either, just the poster. I remember thinking, "Wtf? Who is John Wick? How have I not heard that this was being made? Well obviously I'm watching it because Keanu Reeves and guns..." I just expected a generic action film, but then the layers of character and mythology started to come apart for me and I was blown away. In an odd way, it reminded me of the silly, extremely awesome film "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" from the 80s, because both films drop you into a world that teases/implies a lot of prior knowledge that you don't have. Like if the first Marvel film you watched was Avengers: Endgame and you'd never read a comic in your life.
@MyTake...
@MyTake... 5 месяцев назад
Thank you! I think often the best movies are like that, things that have little to no expectations from both audiences and studios can sometimes be some of the most inspired things created. A very apt comparison to Iron Man 1 there too - I hadn't thought of that as a point of comparison. Thank you for your recommendation of that 80s film too, I'll see if I can find it as it sounds like something that might be worth a video on at some point in the future. I am a fan of that concept of dropping an audience into a world with an already established mythology and history, it's a quality that drew me into the early seasons of Game of Thrones for example. And I wish it was something more common in the superhero genre. Particularly for characters like Batman and Spider-Man who we've already seen them 'begin' their stories before and meet their villains for the first time, multiple times over at this point. Thanks for watching!
