“The Pent Up Angler”. Hi! I’m happy to welcome you to my channel. Initially this was a simple idea to share a few fishing adventures with my elderly parents. Well, at least enough of you have enjoyed the action and have subscribed, so I have been motivated by you to make more videos and share as much information as I can. I’m a long, lost Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana. I moved away for Grad School at age 21 - thinking it would be two years & back home to Cajun land very quickly. Oops…life and work took me away for 30 years! I missed fishing every single day of those 30 years! I was a collegiate tennis coach and still love coaching and teaching, but now I’m so happy to be fishing & camping & exploring all of the beautiful nature in & around the coast of Louisiana & elsewhere. Hence the name of the channel. First trout caught at age 51. Since then it’s been non-stop. Amen. Thanks for watching & I hope you enjoy.
Wow a bit Brokeback Mountain if you hung in there til the end of the video way to go PUA~~ and always a treat to see that sight fishing make a return !!
Hahaha! I’ve never seen that movie but man it was 400 degrees out there on day 3. Had to shed the clothes and stay cool. Was hoping maybe to attract a few female viewers to the channel. Seems doubtful! Haha. Fun and simple living down there in Dulac! Nothing beats site fishing a few!
Man, we fished Choupique bayou marshes Saturday with a flat high tide. Fishing was tough. Hot with no wind and no moving water. 2 keeper reds, 1 small flounder and 1 rat red. I will be back on the 31st to try again
@@stacypervis Thanks a lot for the report. Always tricky estimating the tides there. Wish there was a gauge closer by. And yes, hot days aren’t helping. Will finally change this week. I’m actually maybe going Tuesday for 1/2 day and it will still be hot. Will try to share a report. Cheers and good luck ahead! Love hearing the reports. Thanks.
Mark! So funny. I'm in Grayton with the family and always bring my rods of course. Got on youtube to see if anyone had some tips on fishing Western Lake and stumbled on your video. Awesome job and great to see pics of your family after all these years. I've fished the dune lake near Watersound a few times with my daughter and always at least get a couple of specks or reds. Usually bring the cast net and float some live whatever bait fish under a popping cork. I'll report back on this trip! - Steve O USL 87
Hello Steve! Ha! Small world. Glad you found that video. That’s one awesome place with all of those dune lakes. Very cool. And I know you do a lot of fishing. Great to hear from you and hope to get a report from your trip. Take care and thanks for the message. Someday we will cross paths on the water!! Cheers!
@@Stvol123 Thanks for report! Well, that’s one species I’ve yet to catch! Well done. Hope you get some reds and trout ahead. Keep it coming. Thanks and enjoy!
Went out for about an hour this morning. Nothing but was told by a local to try where the water changes colors in the lake (green to brown). In other words. As a wade fisherman, where i start worrying about gators more than sharks.
@@Stvol123 Darn. Couple things I did in the kayak was find a few deeper cuts (around the outside of bends in any smaller canal or cut) and also downsized (very small) to some bream and sacalait beetle spins! Didn’t catch big ones, but it triggered the small to medium redfish during slow times. And other smaller fish like croaker. At least some action. And the big ones will eat it also. Keep enjoying. Love it! I want to go back there. Headed out to a favorite spot down here early tomorrow. Cheers and enjoy the day!
Fun stuff. Definitely don’t take it for granted. Love getting that camper set up and enjoying some simple days right near the water. Cheers and thanks for all the views and comments!
Thanks for watching and for sending this comment! Fun to make and worth the time. Hope to keep at it… and continue catching. Hope you’re getting out there some as well. Cheers!
Thanks a lot! This kayak was about $1,800. Came with a rebate for the Humminbird fish finder worth an additional $350. A great deal. Old Town Kayak. The comparable Hobie Kayak would cost close to $4,000. Not sure if this link will work, but I made a full review video of my Kayak either lots of tips. About 4 years ago. Old Town Kayak Review and Setup - Topwater PDL 10’6” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0HRB7kmvLbM.html Hope you get one you really like! Well worth it. Cheers!
@@OrlandoPena-z9m Hello! And thanks for the sub. Depending on where you are in Texas… Tons of options all along the Southeast coast - Rockport, Port Aransas, Port O’Connor - all the way up into Galveston Bay (but I would say further South is better). Closer to Louisiana border you could really enjoy Sabine Lake. I’m not sure the exact launch sites, but I’m sure plenty all along that lake and the Sabine Wildlife Refuge. I will be putting out another video soon with another launch near Calcasieu Lake. If you come into Louisiana, all along Hwy. 27 through Hackberry there are lots of launch spots - Choupique Bayou, Spicer’s Marina, West Cove, Northline Recreation Area, etc. Very unique to the inland of Texas - you have 2 beautiful freshwater lakes just next to San Antonio that are loaded with redfish!! Sounds crazy, but it was an experiment by the Texas Wildlife and Fisheries and the reds thrived in these 2 lakes. Look up Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake!! I haven’t been to either yet, but I have researched and mapped. Would be so easy and convenient. People catch reds there all year round. So interesting. And I think you can camp there also!? Bring a Rapala Rattle-Trap and you will get hit - trolling or casting. Good luck and hope you get out there and find them.
@@todd1808 Ha! I definitely get it. It ended up being an extremely fun fight and I did think about landing it and serving up gar balls for everyone!! But still hoping for more redfish action as always! Those gar were everywhere.
@@paulhuval Thanks a lot Paul!! Indeed it ended up being a bit of a thrill and I hope some cool footage. Those garfish were EVERYWHERE! Pretty sure dead vegetation in the water from Hurricane Francine has caused some bad water issues and low oxygen. Hopefully it clears up soon for a great Fall. Cheers and take care.
Your? Video was spot on, I'll be down there. The end of the month for 2 weeks, with my brother and my son. I go there quite frequent and I'm from Iowa. And you are right about his mom's cooking.
Luan plywood 1/2”. Painted it and coated with polyurethane. Did not need to put the fiberglass membrane back on in the inside of the camper. 4 years later and it’s still as good as new! Good luck!
Good day in west cove. I’ll be down in 2 weeks. Going on a 1/2 day with Cat5 Charter and 2 days in the marsh with the kayaks. Back down 3 weeks after that. Hopefully those tropical storms stop coming. Thanks for the video
Thanks! Some great spots down there. I also fished from Northline Recreational Area just above west cove. That video will come out soon. I wish Hog Island Gully was open. Enjoy the trips and good luck!!! Cheers.
It’s a 5 lb mushroom anchor. Works perfectly. And easy to lift and cleans off well with holes in the bottom. And doesn’t hold TOO strong so that the kayak would never flip in an extreme tide or wave.
@@ST-hs7vz I remember! I wanted to call over to the two of you and share the reef. Those fish were holding in a small area. Lucky to have it marked on the GPS. Hope to see y’all out there next time and share notes. Good luck ahead and enjoy!
That was a good day! Had a multi species morning and then found those reds in that creek once the water was moving. Love fishing a spinner as well. Seems like it will catch all species. Great video!
Thanks a lot!! That was a fun day trying several different things. The spinner rarely fails. Good luck at your end. Hope no issues for you with all this crazy hurricane weather. Cheers!
Haha!! Indeed. I owe you guys a few meals. That was a GOOD one! I bet you could have eaten that entire thing. We may not share with Brady! Hope you’re doing well and school is ok. Cheers!
Yep Choupique and some deep water trout hitting on top. Unfortunately no big ones. Learning more areas down there and new videos coming soon! Hope you’re catching some as well.
Hello Patty and Friends! It was a pleasure meeting you. Hope y’all caught some. Great spots down there. I will publish that video either tomorrow or Sunday. And another one from Northline Rec Area in a few days also. Some good action. Hope to see y’all down there again! Thanks and cheers!
Nice video. Congrats on a successful trip. Once the salinity starts rising, they move in quickly. I left Lafayette in March of last year. I had many really good trips to Cypremort Point. I miss fishing there.
Thank you!! One heck of a place especially in the Fall. Hope you get back at some point. I was gone from age 21 to 51. That’s lots of fishing days to miss!!! Making up for it now! Cheers and thanks and hope you will continue to enjoy the videos!
I love how the water gets calm when the sun is setting out there, just an amazing place close to home. So many fish caught in only 4-5 hours. Great job! I went half a day today and had a great time trolling and jigging. It will only get better from here, need a good cold front! 🥶
Great video Mark! I kayak fish either the cove or shark bayou every other weekend. Glad to see the trout are moving into the cove. Can’t wait until next weekend. Great job!
Thanks a lot! Love it Fall and early Winter. And now a cool campground finally!!! Hope to see you out there! Good luck and feel free to send reports! Hopefully out there again soon.
@@todd1808 Yes I should have mentioned that in the video. Mostly to kill the excessive vegetation growth and keep it from choking off the lake. Amazing how quickly that place will empty out once they open the ‘gates’. I’m still learning more about it myself. Hopefully some bream to catch maybe this Fall. Cheers!
Yep! Always fun exploring out there. Was hoping to get some bar fish/white bass. Didn’t find any. Lots of gators!!! Will try again later in the Fall. Hope you’re catching somewhere!! Cheers.
I've been going in my boat to The Point. I went Friday, caught lots of small fish. FYI RIde the Bull was a blowout! They had to shut it down at 1000am due to high winds. WHite caps in the pass and kayaks started flipping! My buddy flipped and lost both rods and his tackle box, not good. I came in just before they blew the horn, no bites. But there were about 30 reds caught early before the wind kicked up.
@@toddyguidry3415 Wow. Great report. Thanks. I hope to get to the Point soon and often this Fall. Glad it didn’t get too much damage from Francine. I saw a couple RU-vid videos on Ride the Bull. Bummer. Amazing conditions. Very tricky there in tough conditions. Glad all were safe. Thanks for the reports!!
Yep! Always see those gators out there, but more than ever with that drawdown and low water. Must have seen at least 25 or so in just 4 hours out there. Love it. Hope more soon! Hurricane arriving first. Darn. Cheers!
Super helpful. We just did our first trip and unfortunately storm damaged the roof and got some water damage 😢so ready for the repair. Thank you so much
Thanks for the nice message. Sorry about your roof. Hope the video helps and you have success. Well worth it! Many trips later and mine is still better than new. Good luck and happy camping ahead! Cheers.
Thanks a lot. Yep… nothing better than some variety and not quite knowing what you’re going to get. I wasn’t quite ready for those huge reds… I land them much better from the kayak and can chase them easier. Cool place! Thanks. Enjoying your channel. Keep it up and good luck!
It’s a great spot. Like going back in time. Very remote but also plenty nice. Bathhouses and great camping spots full service. Low rates. Excellent boat ramp. Cool fishing - can go right into the Gulf. All sorts of structure in the water. And also head North very close for some good marsh canals. Just be careful with storms!! Hope you get to enjoy. Cheers.
