Better look with the smaller tank...more than enough range for where we ride. I'm doing the same build this winter, with the suspension. I think I will lower it also, using the built in method. Garth
500 miles is a long day! I’ve heard that metal skid plates are just too loud, especially on the DR. I guess they reflect all of the engine noise up at you.
I'm in the market for my first bike and have mostly been looking at dual sports and 400-500 ADVs, but I sat on a KLR for the first time yesterday. It was actually way LESS intimidating than I expected, I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam and was wearing western boots with very thin soles but still managed to keep the thing comfortably upright while talking to the sales guy for a good 10 minutes or so. I could definitely feel the weight when tipping it on and off the kickstand but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected. I tried the S model too but thought it was way less comfortable and still felt just as heavy. The KLR fits my intended riding really well - back roads and easy gravel/dirt roads in Central Oregon, with the occasional bit of highway touring - but it'd kind of written it off because of the size and weight, after sitting on it though I think it's my leading contender now.
Have you considered doing all of your own maintenance on the bikes? Both are very easy to work on. A great way to prepare to handle unexpected break downs in the backcountry. I’m a newbie and have done my oil changes, valve adjustments, brake fluid flushes, tire changes and balancing, and many other things. RU-vid University makes it pretty easy.
Awesome, appreciate you watching! I currently have four channels: Precipice Of Grind, Enigma Clandestino, Hit And Run Fishing, and just started working on Ufirst Outdoors & Travel. The fishing channel is on ice for a minute. Thanks for subscribing!!
@@precipiceofgrind wow 4, looks like I have to subscribe to another channel!😆 Cool stuff, besides riding off road on my KTM I find learning about how the ancient people lived fascinating. Really like the channel Stories by Alex. Oh, and I’m a 64 year old Hard Enduro wannabe. 😆
Great video, you have some great scenery and some back country roads in Utah that would make for some really incredible rides. Thank you for sharing. My 2023 KLR 650 Adventure is currently at 2100 miles…..all since purchasing in July! Stock Dunlops are holding up ok, looking forward to the next set, doing research, either Hidenaus K60 scouts or the Shinko 804/805 front rear combo.
@@precipiceofgrindI pulled the rubber plug from the steering spindle and ran the tube into there… my gas mileage with the pumper carb is about 38 to 40 depending on how much I hoon it up
WoW man, you got an XT250 as well? Believe it or not this DR650 & the XT250 are both Dual Sports that I've been researching as possible bikes to buy. Very nice & now I'll have to dig into your stuff to look at what you've done w/ her as well. Well, that's given me 2x's the reasons to watch your channel. For now, back to the fuel take review. peace
If I keep my DR between 55-60mph I average around 50mpg or more. I deleted the PAIR valve, the bike runs better and no popping noise on deceleration. Another thing I added was finned valve covers from Shotcraft to help keep the top of the engine cooler.
Plus the fact that the XT's speedo reads high about 10-12%. So 70mph indicated is likely 63 or less. The bike has got good power though. The weaving at speed can be reduced if you slide your weight back. Ultimately a proper suspension setup can help this as well. Great vids. Jen's input is fantastic as well. Cheers!
I’m wanting to make the same conversion on mine the biiig tank is handy but I almost think it is too big. Awesome video keen to hear you’re longer term impressions 🍻👍🏽
I'm leaning towards the IMS 4.9...Its a bit leaner looking... plenty of range in my neck of the woods as I carry 1 gal roto...don't have to fiddle with stock turn single to boot
