why did you burn over 1000ft or so of altitude waiting to cutaway.. you know right away you can land w a bow failure like that.. classic bow failure.. they never come un done. you pull ur cut away the 2nd you realize ur not getting it undone and that shouldve been right aftyer you said this is fucked" i know you prolly spent a few hundred on that shoot and wanted to save it.,, but you can buy another.,,, cant buy a respawn or a new spinal cord when u slam into the ground at 50-100mph

I'm glad to hear you cussed a little. I always see malfunction videos everyone is just silent and cool as a cucumber. I'm just like.....is this real life? I guess those who skydive solo and routinely are just ACTUALLY built different mentally. First thing I'd be doing is letting out a few swear words as I assess the situation.

It usually lands on a car, obscures the drivers vision and results in a massive fatal car crash. But the jumper is ok so that's alright.

Cool head is always key to emergencies! But I’d just say personally, especially for those who aren’t as experienced, if a malfunction is stable but you can’t fix, don’t fumble around and waste unnecessary altitude, just go for your emergency procedures. Just because your malfunction is stable now doesn’t mean it won’t turn bad later, no need to increase unnecessary risk.

From my own experience - when that flat spin starts, it does so quick and without warning. Well done on getting to your main pilot chute....it was always going to be a funky deployment (I love the "oh fuck" moment at the line over), but at least it got you feet to earth and in a good position for the reserve to open nicely. Hope you got all your gear back.

Too much thinking,one look at that and it's reserve time,straight away. I think what happens is that the more jumps the more complacent people become. Someone early in their sky diving would just chop that without a second thought.

With a line over malfunction, you can correct it by cutting the line responsible for the malfunction. That's why most old timers jump with a line cutter.

What if the reserve fails too? Can you get a third chute?
@vornamenachname3373
@vornamenachname3373 3 года назад
You could get a belly reserve in general but that's rather impossible when flying a wingsuit. But the reserve is usually built differently, and quite differently and much more elaborately packed by a rigger (pro). The focus is on a most reliable and quick opening. Above that? *The reserve always opens!* It is my strong believe that someone without this mentality should refrain from skydiving because they might become a danger to themselves and to others.
@greg5478
@greg5478 2 года назад
Every skydiver is bound to perform cutaways one time or another. This is statistics. So probabilities if having a bad main opening are low but the more you practice and the bigger they get. However, two bad openings in a single jump, I think that the odds are way way more than twice lower. In addition to that, reserve parachute are made and prepared in a way that makes a badopening extremely unlikely. Reserve canopies are the one used by base-jumpers as main canopy. Last thing to remember is that almost every death in this sport is due to human mistake. Gear is rarely the problem.
@ov4457
@ov4457 2 года назад
@@greg5478 the chance of needing to cut away is statistically about 1 in a 1000. The reserves are much more reliable but if we would assume it would also be 1 in a 1000 I think statistically that would make the chance of both failing like 0,0001%
