I am delighted that this Butler model Phantom has been given some coverage in this video. It has always just been glossed over in previous videos I've seen.
I have an old photo of my grandfather posing next to DUV 553. It then featured a badge on the bumper with 5 stars, and a small flag on the bonnet. I imagine Monty was probably visiting Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, when the photo was taken. It is great to see the car looking so great still.
I had the dubious pleasure of being embroiled in that strike, as a Coachmaker for MPW at that time. A strike created by Management so that the roof on the main plant could be repaired minus the workforce. As soon as the roof was completed the stike quickly came to an end. If I recall correctly it went on for 16 weeks. Not fun.
The Spanish Government ordered two limousines and one open all weather tourer. As far as I know, they are still in use. They were armoured and very heavy.

Fuck Lizzy 2-strokes to the moon and back. So, little Mrs Battenburg Saxe-Coburg Windsor bought a car-car, did she? At the time, no other poor bastard could even buy a Bradford van but she spent as much as would buy for or five houses on a bloody Roller just so's she and her Greek giggolo could look good when they went out in their fancy dress.
Keith Newton He certainly was. He arranged alterations that meant that he or the then Princess Elizabeth could drive it, rather than a chauffeur. In 1952 it was made into a State Car, the first Rolls Royce to be designated as such.
