I will be reviewing Golf Courses in the Carolinas... specifically in the Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Southern Pines area. I will do my best to keep each review around 5-10 minutes.
My goal is to capture the overall experience... To include the scorecard, rating/slope, layout, amenities, staff, etc.
I will also show some tips I have learned along the way and a few shots... feedback is ENCOURAGED... I want improve my game.
Been playing Duplin CC and just played Land o Lakes both are in tremendous condition. Lakes was 30$ Duplin $37. Can't beat it, not a bad ride to either from Wilmington
I'm playing there tomorrow for the first time and you had one of the only video reviews on RU-vid. Great review. Looking forward to playing it even more now.
@@SeeGolfPlayGolf we're playing tobacco road, mid south, mid pines, pine needles and southern pines. i used to live in SP so im excited to see the changes Kyle Franz made to pine needles and southern pines
Played here yesterday. Was the second time I’ve played it but didnt remember anything from the first time I played. I absolutely loved this course. Was definitely challenging, but the layout and design was really nice.
Long Leaf is my favorite course we have played. About 12 of us take our golf trip every year and LL is on the play list just about every other year. We spread ourselves around. We've played Pinehurst #5 once. I still like LL. On Sundays, we always end our trip at 7Lakes, because it's on our way back home. The people at LL are really nice too.
Totally agree about Pine Hollow. I have asked the manager before about doing a drone review and I was told they have someone that does drone work for them. I even explained that I don’t charge. I just want to showcase good tracks in the Carolinas 🤷🏻♂️
With full tee sheets it is hard because I don’t want to hold anyone up. Hopefully I’ll get a good opportunity soon. I need to work on posting more videos in general. I have a ton of footage on hold 😂🤙
Headed there next week to watch my granddaughter play the course. She is participating in the US Kids Teen World championship for 13 year old . Three rounds of 18 from 5700 yards. She has played The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Tobacco Road. What course do you find more challenging? Her drives are in the 260 yard range
That is awesome! Good luck to her! Is it one round at Longleaf, Mid Pines and Pine Needles? I thought I heard that was the format. I think the approach shots at Pine Needles are very challenging...tight lies and false fronts, backs and sides. 😳. Tobacco road isn't that tough... It can be intimidating off the tee, but it is pretty open and the greens are receptive. I have never played Kiawah, but I imagine the heroic carries and wind make that a more challenging track.
Played here twice, the 1st time was in 1999 and man , I had my A game. I shot 5 over 77 with a double on 18 after dumping a wedge into the front bunker and 2 shots to get out. I played great and had a magical time there... The pulled pork sandwich is so good at Caledonia.
Oh Man... True Blue, your speaking my language. Played it 4 or 5 times . 1st time was in 1999. I absolutely love that place. Your right how you just think about getting back there after you play. I was lucky enough to play it a few times with the coolest guys who worshipped Mike Strantz big time and guys who have played his other courses. I've also played Royal New Kent and Caledonia. TB is my no. 1 fav track... I played it once from the back at about 7000 yards and it beat me up. I enjoy it more from about 6400 and still find it challenging..
It’s funny when Pete would do a live chat during the Players or a big tournament I got a chance to ask him about a couple I’ve played that were ones that he and PB did and he kinda made it seem like PB did a lot of them. They built a couple in Columbia, SC and they have very similar features.
Yea that doesn’t really surprise me about PB. If I taught my kid how to do something I would make them work while I watched or ‘managed’ lol. Also, that’s really cool that you got to talk to him about his work. I personally enjoyed watching the RBC this year and seeing the similarities to a few holes at Prestwick...didn’t really notice it before. Thanks for the comment.
@@SeeGolfPlayGolf yeah it was a random thing they did with Golf.com at the Players in like 2013. I’m a huge nerd for his work because it just is so out there and he definitely had his template holes. They may not always be in sequence but you’re guaranteed to see a Par 3 with water hard up the side with rocks or a bulkhead, a short risk reward Par 4, and a long wraparound par 5 with water.
@@SeeGolfPlayGolf if you don’t have it already, there’s a coffee table book about his courses by a guy named Zuckerman. It’s the best $40 you’ll spend on a golf book.
So true about his templates. I have heard others say they didn’t love Dye courses and I just sort of 🤷🏻♂️ it off. Then I played Prestwick, read about him and went to The Players... now I just think they are stupid for that comment and probably suck at golf lol His work is fantastic. I really want to play more of his tracks soon.
@@SeeGolfPlayGolf absolutely proves that it’s a mental game. He has a course here in Columbia that has a 20-30 foot deep bunker on the right hand side of a green on a Par 5. Very similar to what he did at PGA West. If you see the trouble is right, and you miss right, that’s on you and not him. I did admire him for being one that would go back and continually tinker with the designs. They don’t make them like him anymore.
Yea it's a tough call honestly. There is a great vibe at Caledonia. Vibes I only felt at Mid Pines and Sweetens Cove. TRG and Cal are totally different styles though...I would play either any day of the week. Twice
It’s not a pain to set down and pick up... but it can get tiresome if you’re a higher handicapper or having bad day and you do it a lot. Hope that helps
How do you feel about the one strap? Did you consider the utility rover at all? How many times are you walking a week/do you wish you had 2 straps ever for more difficult walking courses? Thanks man great review!
Quinn, I’m ok with the one strap. I only walk about 2 times a month so single strap doesn’t bother me as I can just switch shoulders. I really went for this bag because of the price and the classic, but updated look. As for tough walking courses... I have walked Royal New Kent (11-12 hilly miles) and a few other 10mi tracks. There were times on the long stretches between holes when you want to snack or take a drink that two straps would have been nice. But for the traditional course that’s 7-8mi or so it’s solid. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. Check out my other videos for Carolina area course reviews 🤙🙌
Course is really pretty easy, and not much of a challenge. Plus, it should be cheaper. Nice drone shots! Thanks for taking the time to do this and post it!
Ok, yes....RGA is pretty straightforward. I sort of agree about the prices too. However, I think they are looking to change their market... for good or for bad? IDK. I didn’t major in business 😂. I still enjoy the stress free round and friendly faces in the clubhouses.
Good on you...enjoy it man! Try to play the course differently each time. Play from the tips, move up, do a 4-5 club challenge. Place is so much fun 🤙🤙🤙🤙
