Wow, amazing views. The view of Glacier Peak thru the keyhole looked almost unreal. A little to the right or to the left and you wouldn’t even be able to see that.
Been going there since before the mountain blew! We took gas lanterns, NEVER battery operated flashlights. Dad always said, batteries die, the gas lantern will stay lit, and you can depend on them. 👍🏼 Dont get trapped in the dark! He would have us kids sit on the big rocks and shut off the lantern, and we could hear whizzing and air going by our heads... BATS!! 😮 Fun times🎉 Tickets?? Youre getting jipped😂Its no longer a hidden jem🥺
Part of the reason why Lake Serene is known for being such an ankle-twister is because so many people attempt it in sneakers. I hike it all the time and see folks dressed like they're just visiting a city park. Proper hiking shoes or boots are essential. Poles are a really good idea as well. I agree though, hit the trail early especially if it's on a weekend. And yes... a more appropriate name for this hike is "Lake Stairmaster".
When hiking always know your limits. If you get to the point where you're feeling low on energy or something hurts don't keep pushing on. The lakes/mountains will still be there next time. Too many people get "summit fever" and end up out in the woods longer than anticipated, and that's when they run into trouble. You were wise to call it quits at Gem Lake, especially hiking alone.
*Hello.... I like this Alpine Lakes Scramble, the forest is dense and very green and sustainable, very suitable for climbing, trekking or hiking activities... greetings from Indonesia....*
Yay!!!! You did it. Nice work my friend. That was one of my most epic hikes to date. Incredibly steep, demanding, but absolutely worth it. And add you the fact that you had to re-climb/scramble sections just to get that shot. You're crazy ;) Love it! What's next on the bucket list? Chikamin peak and Glacier lake are next up for me.
I loved the view from Hibox, It took us 4 tries to summit. The first three were trying to find the boot trail off the main trail to Rachel Lake. Took two to find the right path up the summit block. If you want steep, I recommend Baring.
Good job Bonnie, I live in Arlington, WA and am 76 years old. I first hiked to the Green Mountain Lookout when I was 21 and returned numerous times in the 19070's and 1980's. I have not been there for 40 years. Your video inspired me to do the hike again this week. I am a retired forester and the hike will be very nostalgic, since I have spent many years working in the Darrington area. I am still an avid hiker and just returned from walking the Camino Frances in Spain. Thanks for inspiring me to revisit Green Mountain.
Im from Darrington myself, I remember hiking Green Mountain with my father when I was a kid in the 90's, and its one if the most potent and fond memories I have. Ive been inspired lately as well to return to the area, maybe we'll cross paths! I was worried about access, with road closures so this was my green light!
This little trail blew my mind. Probably best short trail in USA. Just insanely scenic. Its a madhouse but gorgeous. Only place shorter is Toroweap. It is just as spectacular. Chinese dudes trying to feed donuts 🍩 to marmots 😅😂 Naches Peak loop is amazing. Sourdough pass. The first 1.5 miles sucks 😕 going back up road but great once into the woods toward lake. Dogs allowed NF side PCT. You can easily go up peak above crystal lake. RU-vid the two dudes that went up Rainier in one day. If you want to see route up to/past Camp Muir. Cleaver.
Great Video. Dogs cannot climb. Rocks. Mine have done alot ridges. Boulders stop them. I go here and Sourdough Pass just because dogs can go. Horses too. Mix of people. Dogs on leash and off. Horses. Old. Young. Kids. Runners. Hunters. Seen it all in Esmeralda. I might have ridge confused 😕 but yeah my favorite area in Washington so far. By far. I go up/down that side of enchantments. Stay out of permit main area. Stuart is the prettiest mountain I have seen. Grand Tetons obviously are the gold standard but as a stand alone mountain Stuart is gorgeous! Esmeralda a mini version of Cascades Canyon WY/Teton. Trails 👣 👣 all loop together. The other side of Ingalls is monstrous area. Jacks Creek? Huge. If from out of state this is your area. Has it all. Only long hike I would do. Down Ingalls Creek.
This perfect ridge view. Walk. Money. You can start at Longs Pass but I would reverse it. Go down Longs Pass East side go over to other end loop back to Longs. If same ridge 😅
I am rapidly becoming a Rainier person. I like elevation camping and walking above 8000 feet. Drive to Yellowstone now from Eburg. Beartooth. California is a haul. Crater is interesting because it is exactly like Yellowstone in many respects. Minus thermal. But if driving 7 hours I am driving 10 11 to Yellowstone. Same with Olympic. Going to Glacier rather than that meandering traffic nightmare. Olympic peninsula is huge. If not from here it will surprise you.
The best swimming hole is above El Portal in Yosemite. Under the huge rock fall. Whiter rock on cliff. If low water. We go when it is 100 degrees. Its before Tamarack Creek/falls.
Franklin is impressive. You can swim Rainbow 🌈 Falls in CA. I use life vest becsuse I like floating. Mammoth Lakes is compact. You get multiple things in one area. Camping is G. Duck Pass. Rainbow Falls. Devils Postpile. Crystal Peak. Ritter Range if you want long one. June Lake, Mexican Restaurant. I sleep at Grant Lake on peninsula. Drive daily to T Meadows do day hikes. Mono Pass was crazy busy on weekends. Mono behind Tom's place, not in Yosemite TH. It is short distance pass. Kearsarge/Whitney/Cottonwood/Shepherd/Taboose are all on Independence end. Bam. For your next trip. White Mountain is easy 14252. The locked gate is 12000+ feet. Cottonwood is easy. Small elevation gain. Parking at 10k+.
I recently moved here from Arizona, so I'm super new to the area and find these videos very helpful. Thank you for making them! Which lake is more beautiful in your opinion between Blanca Lake and Jade Lake?
😅 Mount Blanca Colorado is where I camp driving from Tennessee to Moab. Next to Great Dunes. 6 peaks over 14k and a road to upper lakes. 4x4 death road. Here you can drive up Fortune Creek to Gallagher Head Lake. Or walk up from DeRoux camp. LIKE THE TREES. Easiest trees are I90 exit 47 Ashael Curtis. Loud cars etc. Park on Denny Creek side walk down river cross over under the bridge. Day use is past turn up Valley/Denny Creek. Old Growth 1.5 mile loop. Both sides. Anette Lake TH. I never drive there road is SHT. Walk over from day use.
I will say this the view of Mount Stuart from Longs Pass off Teanaway/Esmeralda Basin is one of the prettiest 😍 I have seen in west early June. And it literally has a road down into Ingalls creek. Bam. I don't do long hikes. But down Ingalls is the only one I would do at age 64. No dogs from Pass side.
It's 1000 miles to Lee Vining CA. 😅 Beartooth #1 it's the wild. From pass very user friendly. The giant bowl of woods meadows is bear maul central. Yep. I go from pass to middle. Cross country.
I always laugh when watching these because once you dive in, the person's have been all over. I do Enchantments off Ingalls Creek side. There are definitely rattlesnakes. Huge. So, leash dogs. Had a 40 pound dog killed by one in 80s in CA. Live in Eburg. To get to Yellowstone from there is 11 hours. Beartooth is the place in USA after July 4th. Period. No place better in summer. You literally can get out of the car walk in. At the pass Cooke City side. Google Spirit Mountain. The ridge out from road is right up first hill. If you go up lake chain easy. 9000 plus feet. If in woods your in Grizzly country. #1. I worked in Teton Yellowstone Rocky Yosemite BLM AZ STRIP (Saint George UT) Lived in SOCAL 6 years. Dad lived in Moab. Went up a mountain every weekend for 7 years or main attraction. Jonjasperadventurepage.com All things Saint George area.
Hikeart dude has them all (Washington). Livehardlovehard all things SOCAL, and more. I like watching all the channels in an area though. Washington is by far the easiest approach hiking I have done out west. Great trails everywhere. Cascades are no joke though, off trail they are not user-friendly at all.
My go-to is Emerald Basin. A haul from Seattle side though. Go Friday night sleep at Deroux campground. It is busy on weekend too. As for the area, I go down Ingalls Creek from Longs Pass 20 miles out to US97. The bottom is crazy busy at the trailheads at Snoqualmie Pass. Weekends. I only go to exit 47 park in the day use area (by interstate not up at Falls area) right off the highway walk down the river cross under Freeway go up the other side or just walk the Ashael Curtis trails both sides. They are working on the bridge you walk under so loud this month. Annette Lake is busy trail too.
Hello Bonnie, I love your videos! As a retired man who still likes to hike and climb, I have seen many beautiful summits in our state. There is a beautiful set of mountains called the Bulger Peaks that have one mountain in particular that I really want to climb. Have you ever climbed either Mount Maude or Three Fingered Jack from the Phelps Creek / Leroy Basin Trail? With your wonderful film making, that is one I would really enjoy seeing if you ever climb there. Thank You Bonnie for bringing so much beauty into the World through your talent and enthusiasm!!
Hi, thank you so much, I am so happy you like the videos. It's funny you should mention Maude because that peak has been on my list for a while now, and I do have plans to get up there, so I really hope I get to film it eventually conditions permitting. It seems we have similar taste in mountains!
@@wanderingwashington Thank You Bonnie for all of your beautiful and uplifting videos. I have viewed your climb of Green Mountain and Mount Daniel and Vesper Peak and I now have a desire to climb Mount Daniel and Vesper Peak along with Mount Maude. Your filmmaking is amazing and very inspiring and informative. My Best Friend of 54 years and myself have climbed and camped on some of our volcano summits twenty to thirty years ago, when Dinosaurs still walked the Earth and there were no videos. My friend who stayed weeks on these summits came home with stunning pictures of sunrises and sunsets and an inspiring manuscript of the hardships and beauty and overcoming of Summit Camping.
I haven’t been there for almost 30 years… took the hike with my wife and dog back in ‘94 and was driven out by a thunderstorm! It’s still as beautiful as ever! Thanks for renewing a fantastic memory of a gorgeous alpine lake!
It is s beautiful lake and I have been there 3 times but The Enchantments above Leavenworth are way better and there are lots of lakes on this trail just as beautiful as Blanca Lake.
Wow!! Those views are something else. Marmots are so fun to watch, I can’t imagine seeing 50 of them. Very thorough trip report on the WTA site, appreciate all the detail and thanks for clearing the log off the road.
Me, too. Several times, back in the late 70's and early 80's, when the lookout was still manned in the Summer and Fall. Glad to see it hasn't changed much. Great memories.
