Excellent video. I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't have any hatred towards Johnny Test. I loved it growing up, and while a lot of the show got pretty gross later on, that first season and the reboot were excellent. If the Rowdyruff boys count, than there's also a Johnny Test episode where he discovers a world where everyone's genders are swapped. He meets a girl version of himself and falls in love. It's odd.
I am surprised you didnt mention the league pro Remilia. She has a very tragic story. Im glad that these spaces are now a lot better for queer people but at least back in my day it was far far from that.
Before I watch I think a lot of it has to do with not being a team esport in a weird way. I imagine its harder for a trans person to get onto a league of legends team than a non trans person. Also the FGC is just cooler no one cares what you identify as, as long as you are here to play games and have fun. But IDK thats just my opinion as a cis white man. EDIT: after looking at all the LGBT categories I found mine "graysexual" aka asexual a lot of the time but sometimes attracted to people in my case women. aka straight with no sex drive most of the time.
Ok my gurren lagann brain rot aside I loved that video so much, it came up on my timeline from nowhere and i wasn't sure if it was going to be good but im so glad i clicked it Your jokes are on point, the "lgbt don't just spawn when the light level is low enough" and the "tracer is British so it kinda cancels her lesbian representation out" made me laugh so loud And the video really just inspired and made me genuinely happy, made me feel like we have a place in this world to just have fun, i need to get more into guilty gear, i played a little bit of it for like three days and learned to roman cancel in the second so i need to go further, maybe get more into a greater community :)

I like the point about how what keeps the fighting game community together is the in-person social pressure. The only criticism I have is that in those communities, if you question anything that is against their narrative, especially in Smash, you are banned for eternity. So, while it is a deal of being a beta and polite because of social pressure, most of it has to do with non-negotiable social rules.
I've watched and played competitive melee/smash for like 10 years at this point and have wondered this exact thing myself sometimes. I think the in-person aspect you talk about is a great point I never considered. I also think there's probably some element of a domino effect, where the more that LGBTQ+ individuals join and feel safe tin the scene, the more other LGBTQ+ people are likely to join. Unfortunately there still exists a large amount of hate, even in a community as relatively small as melee's. But mostly those losers are confined to expressing their bigotry online, and are greatly outnumbered. great video!
As a pro fortnite player (no this is not my main acc) who sits at about top 100 in the Americas; im the only queer person OR WOMAN that i know who is around this level. I did know one other queer person but he has stopped competing. I am "out" in the friend groups i play in but iwould never post it on my official acc, the response and hate wouldn't be worth it. I recently started playing guilty gear strive as my first fighting game and was shocked by the about of women and queer people competing at the top of the game. It really warmed my heart to know that other games have more representation.
Having gone my whole life without ever meeting someone outwardly trans, eventually I found multiple in a new local I started going to. Of course all Elphelt mains in Strive. I don't understand the headspace of being trans, but it never played a part in any interaction I've had with them. I'm not even sure if the harassment is a direct targeting of your identity, but just an easy point to catch a reaction. Online interaction is full of people who want to ruin your day regardless. Even in the fighting games space people with go out of their way to be petty and frustrating. Definitely not the same for a local.
cis dysphoria is usually the fear of "not being manly/girly" enough, at least from what I've seen because I'm also transgender lmao. BUt yes, some cis men wanting to get facial hair transplants do it for the same reason some trans men do; to appear more masculine.
