האקדמיה הלאומית הישראלית למדעים נוסדה לפי חוק בשנת 1961. חברים בה בשנת תשפ"ג 143 מדענים ומלומדים ישראלים מן המעלה הראשונה. לפי חוק האקדמיה מטרות האקדמיה ותפקידיה העיקריים הם: לרכז בתוכה מטובי אישי המדע תושבי ישראל, לייעץ לממשלה בענייני מחקר ותכנון מדעי בעלי חשיבות לאומית, לטפח ולקדם פעילות מדעית, לקיים מגע עם גופים מקבילים בחוץ-לארץ, לייצג את המדע הישראלי במוסדות ובכינוסים בין-לאומיים, לפרסם כתבים שיש בהם כדי לקדם את המדע.
אין לי מושג על מי הוא מדבר ועל מה הוא מדבר אבל ברגע שאני שומעת שמישהו מעיז לעשות משהו נגד "מה שמקובל" ולא להמשיך לתת למישהו עבודה רק בגלל שזה מקובל, אז אני מברך את החלטה כזו! כוויות זה דבר הכי הרסני לכל חברה, אין דבר כזה מקובל להמשיך תפקיד רק בגלל שזה היה מקובל
לא השתתפתי בזום, מסיבות משפחתיות, אבל לפני הכינוס שלחתי שאלה לאתר הכינוס. ביצעתי חיפוש על תמליל הדיון (טרנסקריפט), ולא מצאתי מילות מפתח של שאלתי. אולי בפרוש שנת לימודים חדשה, וצפי להרבה ימי מילואים - גם אם המלחמה בעזה תסתיים, ויוחזרו החטופים - עדיין שאלתי תועיל לסטודנטים המשרתים במילואים. הנה השאלה, עם הסבר למוטיבציה של השאלה: אחרי מלחמת יום הכיפורים, תוך כדי 200+ ימי מילואים, למדתי שנה שנייה ב-HUJI. שנת הלימודים החלה מאוחר - למיטב זכרוני בדצמבר, ונמשכה שלושה טרימסטרים, די רגיל. אבל - אבל גדול - היו שני מחזורי לימוד: במחזור השני טרימסטר א' החל כנראה בפברואר, ושנת הלימודים של המחזור השני הסתיימה בסמסטר קיץ. תוך כדי המילואים (השתחררתי במאי) לקחתי קורסים בשני המחזורים, בהתאם לנוחיותי, נעזרתי בחברים ובספרים (נכחתי במעט הרצאות) והצלחתי להגיע לבחינות מועדי א/ב/א/ב. הצלחתי לסיים את שנה ב' עם קצת פחות קורסים משאיפתי. היה לי יתרון לעומת המשרתים בסיני: שרתתי בבסיס במרכז הארץ - כי הייתי טייס (פריבילג), אבל בלי שני המחזורים לא הייתי יכול לעמוד במשימה. התיאור הארוך בא כדי להצדיק את שאלתי: אולי כדאי לאוניברסיטאות לקיים שני מחזורי-לימוד, כמו לפני 50 שנה? תוספת האפשרויות תועיל למשרתי המילואים - סטודנטים וגם מרצים! הגמישות הכפולה תועיל גם למי שלא יוכל להשלים שנה מלאה! תודה רבה, ד"ר יחיאל קמחי

Let me add to the confusion of this plethora of gods or mega- gods. As a Buddhist who has no concept of a Creator God but rather just a universal consciousness which isn't interested in the daily going-ons of mortals. But you people from the middle east take the cake with a God whose name cannot be uttered and who a la Trump's con allocated a land to the chosen people but made them wander in the Sinai for 40 years when with a camel one could traverse the distance from Giza to Gaza in 7 days. Then comes another claiming he is the Son of God. When that novelty passes another comes along claiming to be the last and final prophet. Dont you think it would be better in this 21st century to employ our time and energy to delve into quantum entanglement and the wonders being opened up by the James Webb Telescope? Or do you need another prophet to come around claiming to be the Son of the Big Bang???

מפריע לי האנלוגיה שהיא עושה כל הזמן למוח כ "מכונה" יש כאן לדעתי כשל הגדרתי , שבעקבותיו פשוט אי אפשר יהיה לפצח את המודעות \חוויה. כי אם מדובר במכונה, אז באמת אפשר לייצר מכונה כזאת שהיא הרבה יותר אינטיליגנטית מהאדם כמו ה GPT אבל בבסיסה ללא מודעות, לדעתי רק התחקות אחרי השאלה הנכונה תביא לפריצת דרך בעניין הזה

What’s so interesting is this insistence by certain “scholars” that everything in the Quran MUST have a rabbinic Jewish or Syriac Christian source. Even when these motifs could be better explained by recourse to the indigenous Arab culture of the time. As mark durie has shown, both the concept of shirk (generally sharing, usually meaning sharing in a business/transactional sense ie sharing ownership of land, or a herd etc) and wilaya (patron/protector) existed in pre Islamic Arabia. Why would we have to assume that these concepts were not derived from the local culture and applied to the realm of theology and human-divine relations, and were instead drawn from obscure Palestinian Aramaic poetry or whatever like this guy is claiming? It’s such a stretch. Interestingly, as toshiko izutsu has shown, in the Quranic worldview, shirk has a source, it arises from “zann” or conjecture, which is exactly what seems to be going on here!

Finding something other than a "D" behind "3" will also challenge the rule. Thus flipping all cards can either give credence to the rule or remove support for the rule.
Darwin was definitely non rational he was not a philosopher, a theologian a psychologist or anything other than a biologist. The elements creating consciousness, and mind would be truly non rational. Consciousness and mind which supposedly did not exist yet being created by elements would be truly miraculous.

Pinker never fails to deliver fascinating lectures. The stark distinction between "real" beliefs and "mythological" beliefs is very intriguing. Beliefs in the Reality Zone are more immediate and practical, whereas beliefs in the Mythology Zone are more abstract and remote. However, the claim that mythological beliefs "don't impinge on [people's] day-to-day lives" (00:37:45) is highly questionable. For example, a family may care deeply about their children's schooling because they believe that the children are made in the image of God and thus ought to actualize their full potential through education. Regardless of its utility and potential veracity, the "mythological" belief in God informs the family's daily commitment to ensuring that the child has food on the table and enough clothing to attend school. In this case, the daily practice of ascertaining "real" beliefs arises from a prior commitment to a "mythological" belief. Pinker is right in differentiating the cognitive investments that go into each, but their relationship is much more intimate than he seemed to suggest.
