I have created this channel in September 2015, with some tutorials on the Korg Volca Sample and Ambient Jams. I produce music using an assortment of gear, toghether with Free and Open Source software. For the most part, my works cover Classical Berlin School of Electronic Music and associated acts, as well as Ambient and Drone music, but I do like to experiment with other genres as long as I have the chance.
You are welcome to share your thoughts with me, to subscribe, to like or dislike. Give me all possible feedback, that's the only way to improve my workflow, and share the music on best possible way. Cheers!!!
I have a Roland JV-1010 and I am using it with a Yamaha CP33. I love the sounds I am getting from the JV-1010, but how can I by-pass the JV-1010 and only use the sound settings from the CP33 with some kind of adjustment or setting on the JV1010
@@Philipplus Thanks man i will def pick one of these up. id like to hook it up to Roland boutiques. I have this bookmarked and i will go through his tutorial thanks for the reply bro I Subbed ✌
I don't know if I just can't remember how to use my old gear, but I can't get my JV1010 to play back my midi sequences from years ago. I never actually used the JV101, just bought a couple of them. For my live performances I used a JV1080 and I ran all keys and synth sounds thru out puts 1 and 2 in stereo, all drums in stereo out 3 and 4, my bass sounds out 5 and a click out of 6 that would go to a monitor. This way I could EQ the bass with more oomph and add some punch to my kick. I made my midi sequences more raw with less production that the demos, and I could sound more like an actual band, playing my guitar and singing to the songs. I guess I just assumed the JV101 would at least playback my sequences and access the 1080 sounds but just go out the 2 outputs. But I can't find much information on using it with a sequencer. I'm still using an old WIndows XP with Cakewalk 8. It works great with my 1080. But the 1010 I get drums and everything else is a piano sound. Does anyone know if I'm just not doing something or does this thing not allow for the type of playback I'm wanting? Thanks.
I have a JV1010 and I set it up to make complete songs I composed at the time which I still have recordings of but I don't remember exactly how I did it. I play them now and I realize the tracks need to be remixed because I was not too good at it then but I don't have the tracks anywhere on anything I'm using now so I think it's a bit like the situation you are describing. I have forgotten what I did and cannot find anything but the final recording.
@@kalpeshkpanchal hi, on the volca drum, in global settings, PAD 3 is on SYO hi ( sync output) and PAD 8 is on 1stp, ( 1 step between beats) On the S-1 the SYNC (accessed from the menu list) is on 1.
I'm a bit a puzzled and lost on how you actually change the note values on the steps! What if I wanted to sequence in the scale of Bb Minor? How do I enter the notes of that scale and in essence, lock it to that scale? I'm extremely new to hardware sequencers, so sorry for the obvious/naive question. I hate to buy this thing and be completely disappointed.
Hi. The sq can quantize only do C major or C minor (actually, c Dorian) or quantize chromatically... So any scale apart from the two aforementioned have to be dialled in chromatic mode... It is really one of its major limitations. If you want to choose from a number of scales and root notes, transposing, etc you'll need something a little bit larger and more expensive such as the sq64 or the beatstep pro. Cheers
@@Philipplus appreciate the response. Thank you. So without a display, how are you "dialing" in the notes for the steps? I'm totally cool with chromatic mode, as long as it is easy for me to define the notes for a specific scale.
@@johnghadimi usually I do it by ear, if using the 1 octave or 2 octave range. Sometimes I use the midi dump to check the notes being played but I honestly think the design of this sequence is more geared towards experimentation and improvisation.
I still use my JV1010 and the my SRJV80-08 with everysound in this module along with the sounds of my Roland XP-10 not the XPS model. The original Roland XP-10 that has the sounds of JV 80 sounds set with D50 organs and i just ❤love these sounds and this module. Not ever to depart from Roland. I love Roland i even have a Roland VK-7 and VK-8 too. 1/19/2024.❤❤❤❤❤ROLAND RULES ✌️
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for NOT talking right through the demo like so many other idiots have. Much appreciated, think this is what I need even in Jan 2024. How would you rate this against the SR-18 model?
whats it being played thru? pa? big amp? small amp? what size speakers ? knowing what its going thru helps the listener determine the sound quality better
had a lot of fun with this patch! thx! volca keys controlled via midi by arturia keystep going through foldback distortion patch on a patchblock thx mate!
Love the sound. Been trying to achieve it for years. But the big issue for me is that the pitch of the keys is affected so I cant use it in a band context. Any ideas on hoy to solve this?
It's nice. Though, just as a passing comment, I've never understood people frantically moving their hands over the knobs of their synths. Dj's do the same thing. Often unnecessarily.
Thanks for this. Very informative. I used an Arturia Keystep's CV out to achieve Transposition with the Sq-01 gate triggering a Behringer Model D. Worked a treat _- :-))
After recently purchasing a JV-2080 and a Session expansion board, I feel like I wasted my money. I feel like I have to do this on my own but I'm not sure if I can.
If you are unsure, you might want to reach out to a local electronics club... Most universities and colleges with a degree in electronic engineering have IT clubs with tech savvy people glad to help you out... Maybe even teach you a bit on how to maintain your gear
Thanks for this tutorial. I see it was several years ago you posted it, but it helped me a lot today. I was working on connecting the SQ1 to a Moog Mavis and your tutorial gave me the answer I needed. The labeling on the Moog is different than on an Arturia, but your tutorial provided the key that allowed me to break the code.
Hi You need a 5 pin MIDI cable if you want to transmit note data to the volca. If you just want to synchronize the sq1 to the volca's sequencer, you just need a 3.5mm trs cable (same as the sync between volcas).
@@Philipplus thanks Philip, - is it possible to transmit note data to 2 volcas at the same time? So there are 2 volcas , each with their own 8 step sequence on the sq-1? Does that need a specific cable?
@@jasontovey8635 there are some MIDI splitter cables that you can use. There are also some dedicated midi splitter devices, but some of those take power from the MIDI out port (and the sq1 doesn't provide that kind of power).
Have a few Roland MC modules and I personally think the sound engine in the MC 808 is a killer engine. (just in case someone sees one for sale and is thinking of buying it I'd recommend very much)
