Welcome to Weekend Warrior Michigan Fishing! Join Doug, a lifelong resident of the beautiful state of Michigan, as he takes his family and friends on a journey through the waters of his home state in pursuit of the elusive salmon, trout, and walleye.
This RU-vid channel offers a unique perspective on fishing, showcasing the experiences of an everyday angler who has a family and holds a regular job, but also looks for ways to get out on the water whenever he can. Doug is far from being a pro but he knows just enough to reel in a catch and have a blast doing it. Join him as he shares some local knowledge, maybe makes a few mistakes, and hopefully catches some fish!
Thank you for the nice video. Were your underperforming lures doing that in the same conditions as when your overperforming lures were doing their thing?
Yeah for the most part. It's a summary of the whole year so obviously conditions change throughout but I kept trying those "bad" lures through most of the year.
@@WeekendWarriorMichiganFishing Thanks...I don't think I've ever caught any fish on that glow frog super slim, but I keep putting it out....until I get disgusted.
@@scottgarbs7761 hahhaha. I know. That stinkin glow frog! I know of others who love it. I gave it WAAAAY too much run time this year and got only one fish on it. Not impressed. 👎
If you arent catching them in that one go under the bridge and akl those lakes you can get about 4 lakes down the part on green river you can go threw on the far left side theres 2 spots ill go there and catch about 20 largemouth a trip with using wacky worms
Nice presentation. I want to go out and buy those hot lures. Your last spin doctor did you add a longer leader on that one also? In your first group, I believe that's called a flasher or a dodger not what you call it.
I never did touch the length of the lead behind the spin doctor, but in hindsight I probably should have. I kept it at 24 inches (3x the length of the SD) all season because that exact set-up was so successful for me last year. Regarding nomenclature of attractors, maybe I'm wrong but I always thought large, flat flashers or dodgers could also be called "paddles"?
Thanks for the suggestion - I really do need to look into that. I've never used these or even seen them used first hand so I need to educate myself, but I've heard good things.... Probably something I should tinker with next season 👍
Thanks for asking! Michigan fishing regulations (www.michigan.gov/dnr/-/media/Project/Websites/dnr/Documents/LED/digests/2024_fishing_guide.pdf?rev=e92fe67b1deb4aecac251daaa0cf317a) allow for 3 rods per fisherperson. Children count if they are able to take part in the catching of the fish though they are not required to purchase a license if under the age of 17.
Great video and trip!! Great Memories!I was upon Muskegon this weekend and did good in mornings but not evenings- seems like I started too deep Saturday- I didn’t get to 80’ until after dark.
I wonder if you incorporate possibly a pearl white spin doctor with a choice of whatever fly might be hot on a wire diver it’ll produce just like how your down rigger paddle has been doing a lot of damage!
Agree 100%. I've been putting out a Dragon Slayer spin doctor and/or a Kevin's Girlfriend spin doctor on and off over the last few months on a diver and getting nothing. It's been weird because the Kevin's GF was a great presentation last year. I am slowly losing confidence in them!
@@WeekendWarriorMichiganFishing Coming from someone who trolls on the WI side of the lake every year is different. I wish it was more predictable with the flasher fly bite but it’s not. I tend to just follow the rule of thumb with going with darker value colors such as blue or black for over cast conditions and going with chromes, whites and greens when it’s more sunny.
Great suggestion - thanks! I've actually heard that before, but haven't gotten myself in the habit of doing that.... I definitely should. Seconds matter sometimes!
Nice family dynamic, being able to call your father-in-law "Dad" is the good life. Colin was cool, but Kevin was the man. The biggest fish was a coho!? Good stuff, fish on!
I'm over in Alcona County. Some Atlantics and an occasional walleye. Fingers crossed, we'll be fishing them again soon. DNR planted a total of 200,000 king babies.. Need a bigger, or wider, boat. Nice video guys
I'd suggest you wait for a cold front to slide through in mid to late August and hit one of the rivers that the DNR stocks (this is publicly available). Pitch from a pier or find a public place upstream on a river.
@WeekendWarriorMichiganFishing we got a crazy last night in front of that pier head last night, just about cleared my whole setup, before I could get lines reset. Rough, but good!
