5+7 in my mind instantly goes to 6+6 and yeah that's 12, with larger numbers like for example lets say 37+42 it instantly become (30+40)+(7+2) so 79. I think it have to do with how the metric system works and how easy it is to convert one unit to another etc with it so my mind just does the same/similar thing for everything.
