tbh, the problem is not the usage of "fish" itself as a descriptor, it's more that the general public couldn't care less about precisely identifying weird ahh shite they find on the ocean as anything other than just fish.
Does anyone know which episode Sara is talking about? According to wikipedia Bill Bailey and Vic Reeves have never been on together😅 Also I love the BTS stuff
Under the pretext of hiccups QI managed to include a Still Game scene and veer towards the 'that takes me back' reference to Schofield in the broom cupboard.
Well that confuses me deeply. We don't call all things that swim fish, there's many other sorts of sea creatures. We don't call whales fish cus they aren't, neither are corals or jellyfish. A fish I believe is a category of animal, doesn't rly mean they must be related, does it? They share a set if unique properties, like reproduction and body shape and functions. Birds and insects aren't all related within their own groups either I suppose? I might be wrong about this but I don't quite get it.
What we refer to as fish are the biological ancestors of all land animals and many others sea animals that arnt considered fish. At the same time most arnt related untill the common ancestor. So they are not related meaning they can't be the same family fish. Fish don't exist biologically
We had to read a story for some standardized test in primary school about a dinner party in colonial India where they have a debate about men vs. women and the narrator realizes there's a cobra under the table when the lady of the house discreetly directs a servant to put a bowl of milk(?) in the corner - so he tells everyone to wait and see how they react momentarily, predictably the women have a fit when the snake comes out, until the narrator asks the lady how she knew the snake was there and she says calmly that it went across her feet.
Paul Sinha is mocking the exaggerated wink that Anne Robison does when she presents The Weakest Link. In the UK, it is one of those trivial cultural touchpoints that most people are sort of aware of. Hope this helps.
My boyfriend and my mother both passed in the last five years. Neither of them have bothered to haunt me. I miss them both, but they have had the good sense not to scare the crap out of me. Thanks Mom and Otis.
