glad i found your wrap-up of CrashLandingonYou. CLOY is my absolute favorite kdrama, and it was my first. I still watch it and never get tired of it. I also agree on Start-up. Loved the hoodie. It is one of the handful of kdramas that i have watched more than once. Crash Landing on You, on the other hand, is a 2 - and half-year love affair. It is best.

Their 'type' of music is actually early 2000s UK Soulful House/Garage... very mainstream in the UK at that time but unheard of in kpop before and i love it. And you are right it originated in the 90s but it was more clubby hardcore and underground with mc's rapping over it... by the early 2000s it became softer and more r'n'b based hence the soulful got added tothe house and became very popular and mainstream and this is the sound they have in most of their songs. Think artful Dodger and Craig David... thats the sound.

I feel that all parties involved are shady to varying degrees. It was such a wasted opportunity ,given the fact that there was the potential success of barbie MV and that blackpink seem to be on some sorta hiatus. 5050 could have filled in the void left. They barely debuted and now this has happened and in the korean entertainment this doesnt reflect well on their band's reputation. To be fair I do understand that the girls probably wanted better terms since they can see that cupid is gaining alot of popularity and going on billboard. I wish someone would have given them better advise and told them to wait till they are more established and have the public get to know the girls individually before they pull such a move. Given the way things have turned out, unless a company buys them out of their contract and maybe try a comback in the west. Its going to be an uphill task. The Asian entertainment is abit unforgiving. Especially k pop whereby fandom is pretty fickle and there are ample choices of bands to support.

Attrakt does own Fifty Fifty. Korea is the opposite of America in this respect. Here a group forms naturally and tries to get enough traction to get an offer from a record label, so the group and it's name exist before they join a label. There the companies typically do everything from selecting members, picking a concept, and choosing a group name, so the company creates the group. The girls parents filed for the rights to different variations of their name in Korea like their name in English and in numbers. Some Koreans think this is proof the girls filed the suit to get out of their contract, but any decent attorney would instruct them to do so if they think it likely they'll win the case. Also, important to note that in Korea, apparently you can't shop around for a new contract while you're already under contract. Something else I don't think was stated is that The Givers was also in charge of managing the members. After the suits started flying, Attrakt relegated The Givers to only working with Warner Ko. on overseas distribution. I do believe the Givers CEO, Siahn, is corrupt, so don't think I'm excusing him--I'm just trying to share more info. Siahn said he knew about the song prior to working with 50/50, that he purchased the rights to the original song, and therefore had authority to license out the original song as a sound source for the completed song (which allows him to sign on behalf of the students who wrote the original song). He said what Attrakt paid for was part of the rights to the completed (Fifty Fifty version) of the song. Clearly, Attrakt didn't know this (if it's even true). Attrakt feels like they gave money to Siahn to purchase the copyright and Siahn used that money to purchase the copyright for himself. There's a separate lawsuit about the issue. On another note, it has been proven that Siahn lied about his background/work history. Here's the thing I don't hear people talking about: Attrakt's CEO is also shady. 1) He said Warner was part of the efforts to poach the girls. Later he published the audio of a phone call with Warner Brothers Korea where Warner Brothers told him that they had proposed a 20 million dollar label offer to The Givers and wanted to talk to him about that offer. The CEO of Attrakt said that he had never heard of the deal. This led Koreans to say it was proof that the Givers was trying to make a backdoor deal with Warner Brothers to steal the girls. However, from the conversation, Warner Brothers clearly expected the Giver's to pass that information on to the CEO of Attrakt. At the time, the Giver's had been the girls management so Warner's probably thought the CEO of Attrakt had essentially made the Giver's Warners point of contact for all things 50/50. Warner Brothers never said that the Giver's accepted the offer, so it isn't really proof that the Givers were trying to do anything behind closed doors. The Givers may have been trying to do something sneaky and hoping to get the girls away so that they could sign a deal with Warner, but that phone call doesn't prove that's what the Giver's was trying to do. For all we know, the Giver's said you need to talk to Attrakt or they set up the phone call so Warner could make the offer directly to Attrakt. There's also no proof in that phone call that Fifty Fifty even knew that Warner Brothers had made an offer. The only time the girls were mentioned was when the CEO of Attrakt said that he didn't know what a label deal was; the girls were mentioned in the process of Warner Brothers explaining what a label deal was. Not only doesn't this conversation prove that there was a backdoor deal going on, the fact that Warner's was surprised that Attrakt's CEO hadn't heard of the deal is fairly decent proof that Warner Brothers wasn't trying to make a backdoor deal. So why did he tell the public Warner was involved? 2) The CEO of Attrakt said that the CEO of the Givers canceled the recording of the Barbie Dreams MV without discussing it with him. Later, the CEO of the Giver's provided a conversation where Attrakt's CEO told the Giver's to cancel the recording of the MV and to tell them it was because a member had Covid and another had a surgery. In the conversation, the CEO of Attrakt knew that the girls were going to do some sort of a lawsuit and he basically told The Givers we can't let the Warner find out about this lawsuit because we could get sued for breech of contract. So the CEO of Attrakt publicly blamed the cancelation on The Givers when he had not only told the Givers to cancel it, he instructed The Givers to lie about the reasons as well. 3) Recently, the court referred the parties to mediation in the hopes they can settle their differences. The CEO of Attrakt publicly said that if there are still issues regarding settlement transparency those could be resolved if the girls came back to the company. I find it very interesting that even though the girls went to court over transparency, wanting to fully understand where the money was going, Attrakt's original statements didn't have the information they wanted (the CEO said it was due to a third party) nor did Attrakt's later statements explain the parts that the girls had wanted to better understand (there are some fishy things going on and some suspect their CEO was embezzling money); yet the CEO said if there were still transparency problems--he knew there were still issues. To tell them they have to come back to get transparency is highly manipulative. They should have had transparency from the get-go. If the girls give up their suit and go back to the company, but he doesn't give them transparency they'll be screwed and he knows that. BTW, mediation didn't resolve anything, but the court gave them another week for more mediation. Conclusion: both men are shady. Here's what I think happened: I think the CEO of the Givers realized that the CEO of Attrakt was doing something shady with the finances. I don't think that he is dumb enough to go to the girls and say directly, "Hey leave the company and I'll make you rich" because he can't do that in Korea without going to jail if he got caught. It might also make the girls wary of him. I think when he realized that the CEO was doing some shady things, he subtly prompted them to seek transparency (think of how easy that would be--all he would have to say is, "you must be excited about the funds that are coming in"). Subtle statements like that that would cause them to ask for transparency and he knew the CEO was unlikely to give transparency which would make the members even more suspicious. Givers employees supposedly told the CEO not to go into their practices because it would make the girls uncomfortable, creating distance between the CEO and the girls. Having separated the two parties and made the girls suspicious of Attrakt's CEO, Siahn probably sat back and watched nature take its course. If the Givers was involved, it probably was all about subtle sabotage. In which case the members are saying they weren't manipulated by the Givers because it was so subtle, they haven't realized they were. Lovin Me

I think having the tracks sounding too different from each other is intentional so there will be a song for every person. Lyrically tho, they are all still cohesive. But to us international fans I guess it makes sense that a lot of people think this album is somewhat all over the place. I agree with your points about sticking to a specific style and incorporating it to the whole album. JYPE just isn’t there yet with Itzy. They’re still sticking to showcasing their versatility.

The Cake MV is a parody/homage to many different movies but the main idea is that various things keep happening to them (monster attack, falling down, shoot out, lightning strike etc) but they don’t die. Whatever happens, they just keep doing what they do and enjoy doing it too. 😊 it matches well with the lyrics too

JYP div2 has no creative direction for ITZY. in my opinion things changed with Mafia in the Morning, they experimented with trap and welcomed a whole new audience while alienating the Korean gp. As a result it setup two different expectations for the group moving forward, a fan base that wanted the fun stuff and a fan base that wanted the hard hitting stuff. Checkmate album really caused the damn to break. Div2s rollout was the biggest fumble I think. Concept photos deceived a part of the fan base thinking they were getting a royal chic badass theme. Instead Once the y2k super colorful sneakers stuff dropped a lot of Midzys were in literal disbelief. Like literally refused the switch up was reality and that a “Disney” song was the title track. Itzy antis fed of that and till this day pose as Midzys claiming they’re always disappointed with ITZY releases. Sneakers had no chance in the court of social media. Releasing boys like you immediately after did not help because both songs were done by the same writers. So the perception is ITZY has lot it’s ways. Fast forward today you still have half the fandom wanting kill shot to be the title track instead of cake. ITZY has no definitive identity because if u ask one person they’ll say Itzy is mafia music, you ask another and they’ll believe sneakers is truly the real ITZY. Whatever they release will always disappoint someone. So ITZYs response is actually in this album. sonically it’s not cohesive but lyrically it is. ITZY has worked through their self doubt and dont care what ppl say, they will put out what they put out. They’ll be fine because they’re in JYP, they’re still selling lots of albums and selling out tours, and they’ll likely just chug along until their contract expires in 3 years because they’re in the worst division of JYP, just ask GOT7 fans

The three songs while different in song style are very cohesive album theme wise. Bet on me is about overcoming self doubt by choosing and betting on yourself, NOMB is utilizing that confidence and not giving zero fcks what ppl think, cake is not being phased by all the crazy stuff that’s going around you, instead of worrying just focus on yourself, it’s up to you to just do you, easy peasy piece of cake. Kill my doubt reaffirms their self confidence message, especially what they’ve gone through in recent times

Nice analysis. Some corrections. It was not the 5050 girls that refuse to film the Barbie Dreams MV. It was CEO of ATTRAKT JHJ told Siann to not proceed making the MV. And JHJ told Siann to tell Warner Music that one of the girls (Saena) had Covid19. Siann had to lie. According to Siann everything was all ready including the girls. It was all JHJ. Not sure why he decided in the last minute to cancel the shoot. But as a result, Fifty Fifty missed a big opportunity. The girls were also not allowed to be part of the Barbie movie promotions also in South Korea with Margot Robbie. JHJ is shooting himself on the foot by cancelling all scheduled promotions for Fifty Fifty. Those sponsors would surely not trust JHJ again. Please protect Fifty Fifty members. They are not the ungrateful young Idols that the KNetizens are spreading online. Hopefully the court trials would end soon and the final verdict would favor our girls. CEO stopped the MC schedule because girls sued. One of the reasons why these girls sued was making them work when they had health issues. If CEO continues with MV schedule, it can be used against him in the court. Missed opportunities are 5050's fault for starting the lawsuit in the first place. You don't pick and choose in real life. You make the bed, you lie in it. Time for these girls to face the music and start look for new careers.

The contract for MV Barbie contains a significant issue, as there is a substantial penalty in the event of a member's absence. Members did a lawsuit right after that. If the CEO of Attrakt signs the contract, he must fell victim to a major deception. It appears that Sian from the Givers and 50/50 set a hidden trap. Consequently, all Koreans are now withdrawing support from 50/50 because of shady members. That was the intentional trap.

@@nickjoe5151 [this is my conclusion, of course is speculations.] “Interpark gave an investment of 9 billion won to CEO Jeon in August 2020. According to Attrakt, they spent 6 billion won on FIFTY FIFTY. However, in reality, only 4 billion was used, and the remaining 2 billion was another investment. Because of this, FIFTY FIFTY members and CEO Ahn Sung Il raised the suspicion that CEO Jeon had embezzled the fund.” “From the experience of CEO Jeon, who had created several groups and failed many times before, he knew how to spend the money. If he received the full 6 billion won at once, he might spend all of it, and end up lacking money for album production” “CEO Jeon decided to receive only 4 billion won first and take the remaining 2 billion won later when it was absolutely necessary for the final stage of the album production. He actually spent the first 4 billion won on covering accommodations, lessons, and other expenses for the members, and then received 2 billion won to produce two albums. There was only a slight delay in the process, but Ahn Sung Il and the members suspected that CEO Jeon betrayed them”. ~ Lee Jin Ho All of this bull*** could have been resolved if they talk, but Sung Il wanted to make The Givers public business . JHJ also wanted to make ATTRAKT public business. That’s when the dispute started! FYI Kyobo invested 10 billion won to “The Givers” last year. Which The Givers were like “we don’t need ATTRAKT anymore let poach the girls”. Sung Il has poach an artist before, her name is “Son Seung-yeon”. she also sue her agency (Fortune Ent) for the same reasons Fifty Fifty did. Later she signed with “24th Street” Sung Il being the CEO and later they establish “The Givers”. (I don’t know how Warner Music Korea fits in all this dilema) [i gather this information from articles specifically Dispatch and people from Korea. they could be wrong and I’m waiting for the courts final verdict.]

its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she fel in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (when she looks at the mirror, she has no reflection). at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human, her own way of striking herself with cupid's arrow. side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because yes her clothes are different, and people can now see her- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/ aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoyeon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately, tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video, with a deep meaning and a retelling of mythology. everyone wants love and deserves love, whether they are human or otherworldly deity/being

My thoughts. The girl in black is cupid like being, a spirit meant to cause people to fall in love but after a while, she grows resentful because she wants love for herself. When she meets the male love interest, she becomes obsessed while New Jeans, a group of uncorrupted cupids watch on. The girl in black finally takes on human form to be with the man but the man with white hair punishes her by making her lover fall for someone else. Alternatively, a darker take is the girl is a succubus meant to sow lust but she falls for a man while a group of angels (New Jeans) watch on. As punishment, the devil, the white haired man, causes her lover to leave her.
