Lmao! Yes I didn’t have the best camera set up. I have another video of me in the Gen 2 (1:37:0) but then the camera mount melted and it was moving around so not the best either. There are 2 guys who have gone 1:36s in their Gen 1 and I’d actually suggest watching those!
Nice lap, clean driving. But this is a new personal record, not an overlal lap record for NA brz/frz/86 cars. I know of at least 2 others who went 56s and that was before the new asphalt (probably a low 56 or high 55 with how the track is right now).
Thanks for your comment. I’d be very curious to see and know who you are referring to, as the 86 BRZ track community is very small and we all know each other. I’m not aware and have never heard of any other N/A 86 BRZ going anything lower than 1:58 even until now, so please share. I do know a Gen 1 N/A 86 that did a 1:58:72 which is currently the fastest N/A Gen 1 and it’s also a full on race car. The only ones that have gone faster would be boosted ones - a turbo 86 going 54s.
I'm late to the party here but amazing driving! I've got a first gen BRZ and spend a lot of time at Shannonville. You're carrying some insane speed through the corners and nice to see the power of the 2nd gen allows it to accelerate in ways my stock 1st gen just can't. Turn 1 is the worst example of this where 4th gear just doesn't accelerate around that corner. You're faster than me literally everywhere although I think you're giving up some time on the back straight because of how you handle turn 10. Your entry is quite a bit faster than mine but my exit speed is 7kph faster despite my power deficit, which is going to hurt your time down the entire straight. Given how you already spend shockingly long on the limiter of 4th gear at the end of the straight, this might be the difference between making 5th gear worth using or not. For reference, I just uploaded a video to my channel I took in 2017 you can find by clicking my profile. It's from 2017 so it's old but it's got telemetry and shows the difference in how I take this corner. If you don't want to check the video, basically just apex that corner much later than you do. Stay to the left until you're just about to hit the grass, then crank the wheel and as soon as you're turned in, mash the throttle. You may have to counter steer to keep from spinning but keep your foot in it and you'll see much better speeds down the straight.
Thanks for your comment and input on T10, definitely worth trying next time. I saw your video and great driving overall. I think there are just some minor tweaks that you can do and also committing to the throttle a little earlier throughout and smoother inputs and you will shave some time off. I had a stock powered Gen 1 and there might be times when it’s beneficial not to downshift (after the back straight) so you can focus more on getting corner entries right and just carrying speeds through the corners. Happy to take this offline and provide some detailed comments if that helps! Please say hi at Shanny if we happen to be there at the same time.
@@joshua1chan For sure, I usually say hi to every 86 owner I see there, circumstances/time permitting. Based on the timing from this comment, you may have seen the new lap I posted from an event last week where I did a 2:03.9? If not, there are a number of changes since the 2017 video such as shifting to 4th before T1 and T5 and carrying a lot more speed basically everywhere. I'm still certainly not fully exploiting my available grip, especially on corner entry in particular and overslowing as a habit on certain corners, especially T11 where downshifting to 3rd is just a habit at this point but certainly worth checking out holding 4th.
Both generations of 86 are great cars. If you are looking for a Gen 1, you will need an oil cooler for track use. Otherwise, they are pretty reliable on track unless it’s boosted or extremely low. There were some issues with early 2013 models but you should be fine with anything 2014-2021. Hope this helps!
No changes to the engine apart from an exhaust. Gen 1 runs very hot on track and needs an oil cooler. Gen 2 is slightly better but probably still safer to have an oil cooler. But the problem with Gen 2 is usually oil starvation in high G situations and solutions to that issue is still TBD.
