I am sitting here stunned, as a self taught art-er (not really an artist). It's like a horizon suddenly opening with light. Not any one specific thing but the scope of capability that he is offering. I'm eating up these videos, but slowly, so they actually integrate. His teaching itself is a craft, and what he is offering is the actual technical details of how to approach and create .. literally anything. It almost brought a tear to my eye, the moment I comprehended what a master this man is, and what I can learn from him.
Im a self taught artist. I have to wonder do artists really put this much math into their work. Its exhausting. My intuitive work flows but im trying to learn technical skills. I am not getting it.
I get you. It feels too technical for something that is art but there’s a reason why their work stands out. Also, there is a lot of prep work done prior to painting so that’s where the grid comes in as they plan their layout. When the legwork’s done, by then they know where to position the figures and furniture in the artwork. That’s where the lines start to coincide.
I'm already struggling with self-doubt concerning even being able to draw. Now I'm watching a treatise on geometry. That's just great because I struggled with geometry in the 10th grade. So now instead of trying to outrun one boulder, I'm trying to outrun two.
@@paullittle9187please don't let that stop you - there are many ways to come at art and drawing! The last few years of self study, I would not have been interested in this approach, but others were great. Now for whatever reasons, I'm ready for this stuff and excited about it. But it's not the only way into engaging with art. Wishing you the best in your journey with it.
Professor reminds me of my favorite teacher, skied the Alps to get out of Rusia just to become my Math teacher. His love was sculpture and sketching. He spoke with the same strength and boldness. Anyway, I was a terrible student or perhaps just was not listening?? No... Wow, these are master classes hopefully the students understand what education they are getting, nothing close to what I paid for in the few college courses I took.
Someone casually dropped Barnstone’s name in the comments on another channel and snoop that I am, I searched for his class. OMG! What a goldmine! I’m a beginner trying to get a drawing education through online sources. This man is a GIFT! I feel so fortunate- like the universe said,”HERE!” How fortunate we are!!!! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
I mean its not that what hes saying isnt helpful... but the first minute or 2 is him literally showing you hes a good bullshit artist. Straight lines occur naturally all the time in nature.. not sure where he gets the bs that there isnt.
All these are not “must have” stuff for artist at all and golden section is hugely overrated. Get molly bang’s book instead, called “picture this”. You gonna learn all the fundamentals in a simple and effective way. Barnstone told these like it's a magical, divine things which sounds funny after you get the idea of composition in visual art.
I am truly amazed at his course. Professors like him are rare. This course is taught with intellectual mathematical equations that intrigue my mind into becoming a unified artist. Thank You so much for enlightening my creativity.
